It was celebrity city here in West Hollywood last night!
Where? Mark's restaurant, 861 N. La Cienega Blvd, WEHO.
What? Upright Cabaret Madonna Tribute.
When? Last night (8 August 2008)
Who? Naveen Andrews (Sayid Jarrah in LOST), Jai Rodriguez (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy - U.S. version), Billy Porter (Broadway and recording star) and Audra Mae (grand-niece of Judy Garland).
So there we were at Mark's waiting for the cabaret to start and who should walk in but fellow Brit, Naveen Andrews from LOST, who plays the Iraqi Sayid. He was there for a female friend's birthday (blonde-haired with those glow-in-the-dark L.A. teeth), dressed in black and wearing a hat most of the night. He sat on the table next to us and I had a clear view of him all night (although sadly I failed to get a photo of him as we were so close and it would have been rude).
We were there for another Upright Cabaret, this time a tribute to the songs of Madonna, which were a real mixed bag of performances, with the ladies far better than the gents singing.
Naveen wasn't there to sing (just eat), but another celebrity was there to sing and that was Jai Rodriguez from Bravo's Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (the original U.S. version). Unfortunately he wasn't the best singer in the world, so maybe he should stick to being the 'Culture Vulture' on Queer Eye, the 'expert' on popular culture, relationships and social interaction.
Amongst the other performers were Broadway star Billy Porter (who apparently didn't know the words to any Madonna songs, so sang one of his own - so a total shameless plug) and not a 'real' celebrity at all, but part of Hollywood royalty, the grand-niece of Judy Garland. There must be something in the genes, as Audra Mae was a great singer. She was one of the better singers last night alongside Becky Baeling and Katie Thompson.
Last but by no means least I should mention that we were there watching the cabaret with our very own singing sensation friend (and star of San Diego and Vancouver Pride), Barry Goold.
Why not check out my round-up of celebrity sightings to date.
So it was a jam-packed celebrity evening here in WEHO and a couple of cosmo's later and a good time was had by all. It was a great way to celebrate the day, as Cooper had been for his final rabies and booster shot, which means he's free to go out for walks in public now.
We nearly didn't make it into the vet though as there was a massive Rottweiler in the waiting area that got very excited when he saw Cooper (maybe thinking lunch had arrived), whilst Cooper seeing another big black dog probably thought it was his play-mate Ginger.
He was very well behaved though, weighed in at 39.10 lbs and as always had his shots without any fuss. And we were right to think the vaccinations wouldn't phase him, as he was his usual effervescent self when we got him home.
Now it's time for our Hollywood hound to meet his soon-to-be adoring pubic...
