Vote NO to Prop 8...

I'm not a huge fan of marriage, mainly because I never thought it was an option for me being a gay man, but I do believe that everyone should have equal rights to marry, be they man and woman or a same-sex couple.

In California Proposition 8 eliminates the rights of same-sex couples to marry.  On 4th November this year Californians will vote to decide whether to ban gay marriages in the state and I would urge anyone who can vote here (as I can't), to vote NO against this unfair and fundamentally prejudice Proposition.

Living in West Hollywood surrounded by a gazillion gay men and women you often forget that there's a lot of intolerance and hatred still out there in the real world. In the UK where I'm from, the Civil Partnership Act in 2004 granted same-sex couples the rights and responsibilities identical to opposite-sex marriage.

Aside from allowing gay people to demonstrate their love for each other and celebrate with friends and family on a special wedding day, it also provides the same property rights, the same exemption on inheritance tax, social security and pension benefits, tenancy rights, full life insurance recognition and next-of-kin rights in hospitals, plus parental rights and responsibilities.

My partner and I have been together for over nine years, but are not married yet. I'd like to think that in the future we could get married wherever we were living and that we would be entitled to the same basic rights as opposite-sex married couples.

I still can't believe that in this day and age we have to fight against such an unjust Proposition.  What next?  Shall we bring back slavery?  Take away the right of women to vote?  Or maybe we all just need some good old fashioned shock therapy?

Anyway, enough politics for one day - what about some pictures of squirrels to lighten the mood.
Squirrel spotting from my window
After the other day's kamikaze squirrel action, it's nice to know there are still some fluffy friends left in the trees!

Long time visitors to Jason in Hollywood will know that when we first arrived in L.A. we stayed in Burbank for two months and the squirrels there became our furry neighbours (you'd see more of them than people at times). Hence the fascination with all things squirrel.

Something else to put a smile on your face is another guest appearance by Cooper on someone else's website, Cute with Chris (just to warn you, there's a bit of swearing involved in this video, so may be best to turn the volume down for the little ones or those easily offended, although it's not that bad).  It's pictures of our cute pup weight-lifting when he was younger.

How long before our Hollywood Hound is snapped up for a major starring role I ask?

And that's it today for this little schizophrenic blog entry, only a few more hours before my folks land at LAX so I'd best get cleaning the condo.

Remember, do the right thing and Vote NO on Prop 8...

the Government shouldn't have anything to do with marriage in the first place - you should be able to marry anyone from any gender you want without getting permission from the government... just another unconstitutional dictate...
