Stars, politicians, families and fabulous people came out for fantastic Gay Pride Parade in West Hollywood this year.
Gay icon Wonder Woman
Not even the June gloom could stop our community from celebrating our pride and diversity.
West Hollywood Parade Superheroes
This year, after a champagne breakfast to put us all in the party spirit, I saw all of the WEHO Parade and not just the tail-end. With so many floats I even managed to use up all my digital camera memory in the first hour and so had to vet images as I went along, so enjoy these fantastic photographs.
The Silver Surfer
First up is one of my favorite floats of the whole Parade, even though it was towards the very end of the Parade, mainly because of its superhero theme, with its many Marvel Comics and DC characters.
But also because this float is so fun and colourful and the 'heroes' seemed to be having such a good time performing for the crowds with such gay abandon.
Gay icon Wonder Woman led the way, proudly waving the stars and stripes flag and flanked by Marvel's the Silver Surfer, Wolverine and Spider-man on one side of the truck and DC Comics Batman, Catwoman and Robin on the other side.
Here to save the day...
I mean what gay man doesn't want to dress up in spandex as Wonder Woman or be Linda Carter for that matter (or is it just me?).
Well I was Spider-man at last year's West Hollywood Halloween Carnival, so you never know.
Even though it was a great spectacle, I have to admit seeing the whole thing did take while and at times you did want to speed the Parade up.
Bienestar Aztec float
It was a shame that the skies were so overcast this year for the Parade (earlier in the morning there had been clear blue skies and sunshine), but the colourful floats and costumes were the perfect tonic to brighten everyone's spirits.
There seemed to be an overabundance of politicians and city officials in the Parade this year, cynically it smacked of opportunistic politicking.
Hopefully they were they to show their support for the gay community and for everyone's efforts to overturn the unfair Proposition 8, give us equal rights and make same-sex marriage legal in the future.
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom
and wife Jennifer Siebel
Gavin Newson, San Francisco's Mayor, and his pregnant wife Jennifer Siebel (or Mrs Gavin Newsom) were in attendance walking as part of the Parade (accompanied by lots of bodyguards).
Comedienne Chelsea Handler
Stand-up comedienne, actress and late-night talk show host Chelsea Handler rode one of the Pride floats.
Good on her for really getting into the spirit of things, waving to the bystanders in her killer Tiffany-blue high heels and proud pink head scarf.
Telenovela star Kate del Castillo
Mexican actress and soap star Kate del Castillo was also amongst the 'famous names' on the day.
And is that Tootsie or Elton John in drag? No it's the sparkling vision in red herself, Miss Traffic!
Considering we're in the heart of movieland, it's a real shame more well known celebrities and stars don't come to show their support - gay or otherwise (well take them all).
Anyway, there were enough Parade 'stars' and colourful characters to keep us all entertained.
My personal thanks go to everyone who marched in the Parade on the community's behalf and for all their continuing efforts to help us get equal rights in the future.
It was great to see so many families on the roadside to watch the parade and hopefully their children will grow up with a healthy attitude and acceptance towards gay life and it was also encouraging to see so much support from local churches.
Let's also not forget one of the most important elements of any Gay Pride Parade - the hot male eye candy!
