Santa Barbara's Chromatic Gate...

Today I wanted to round out our recent adventures in Santa Barbara by highlighting its fantastically colourful Chromatic Gate.
Rainbow Chromatic Gate Santa Barbara
I've seen it on previous trips to Santa Barbara but never really knew anything about it, beyond being impressed by the structural piece that is framed by the impressive mountains behind in the distance and from the other side the beautiful Pacific Ocean.

The striking rainbow coloured arch is 21 feet high and was created by Herbert Bayer (1900-1985).

The artist lived in Montecito near Santa Barbara for the last ten years of his life.

It was erected in 1991 and can be found across from 633 East Cabrillo Boulevard. To be honest you can't miss it as you drive past.

It's starting to look a little weather-worn under the fierce Californian sun, so maybe it's time to touch up this magnificent piece of outdoor art.
Jason and Cooper by the Chromatic Gate
We couldn't resist the photo opportunity it provided with our adorable Labrador Cooper. It certainly is worth taking a few minutes to admire the Chromatic Gate, either from afar or up close.

I'm sure it won't be the last time we visit Santa Barbara and take in its many delights...

that's such a shame as it's a great piece to photograph - I plan to take a few more pics through the arch next time, especially with any views of the ocean :)
