South Pacific Musical stars entertain at The Grove...

The cast of the South Pacific Musical currently playing at the Ahmanson Theatre in Downtown L.A. added a bit of show-business glamour to a special Hawaii event at The Grove shopping centre in Los Angeles yesterday.

Actress Carmen Cusack who plays 'Ensign Nellie Forbush' kicked off the proceedings and belted out a song from the musical set on a tropical island in World War II where love blossoms between two couples.

She plays the U.S. Navy nurse who falls for the French plantation owner Emile de Becque (played by Rod Gilfry also in attendance).

Quite a crowd gathered to hear the performers sing at midday amongst all the Hawaiian stalls offering food, drinks, information and other treats from the islands.

The musical stars were there to promote their current production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's South Pacific, directed by Bartlett Sher, which won seven 2008 Tony Awards, including Best Musical Revival.

Keala Settle plays 'Bloody Mary' in South Pacific

Next on stage was a Hawaiian native, Keala Settle, who plays 'Bloody Mary' in the classic show.

The crowd at The Grove loved her performance as they sat on the grass wearing their handmade floral leis and sipping free spring water from the islands.

Now that we're only six hours away from Hawaii, rather than sixteen from London, we're thinking of taking a trip there later this year if finances allow.

Closing out the selection of songs from the musical with 'Some Enchanted Evening' was the Grammy-nominated baritone Rod Gilfry.

The renowned opera star gave a powerful performance and was a real crowd pleaser.

Rod Gilfry will play 'Emile de Becque' in South Pacific at the Ahmanson Theatre, at the Music Center in Downtown L.A., until June 20, 2010.

The Hawaiian tourist event wasn't the only attraction at The Grove on Saturday though.

For classic car enthusiasts they only had to walk over the road to the adjacent Farmers Market to enjoy the 16th Annual Gilmore Auto Heritage Show, but more on that another day.
