I don't think I'd make a very good paparazzi, probably because of the British reserve and my respect for people's privacy, but I couldn't help get swept up in the media feeding frenzy on Sunday morning at the Nautica Malibu Triathlon when Teri Hatcher walked along the Zuma Beach shoreline.
Playing paparazzi with Teri Hatcher at Zuma Beach
My only justification for for being so snap happy with my camera was because the Desperate Housewives star had invited the press attention in order to publicise the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles charity fundraising activities, which was the reason why all the celebrities were competing in the Malibu Triathlon on September 12, 2010.
It really was a surreal experience to follow the hordes of photographers and triathlon supporters armed with their cameras, as Teri Hatcher walked along the beach in her wetsuit to the start of the half-mile ocean swim, which was the first leg in her triathlon team relay.
Last year she competed in the entire triathlon (and attracted even more media attention), but this year she swam, whilst her teammates Disney President and CEO, Bob Iger, cycled and Modern Family's Julie Bowen completed the four-mile run.
It was hard to get a good shot of Teri as the flashes from other cameras went off, with the dim morning lighting (it was only 7am) and the bustle of all the other 'professional' paparazzi.
You have to admit, she looks in terrific shape and she certainly knows how to work the cameras, with lots of hair tossing for maximum glamour (before she took the plunge in her swimming cap and goggles in the freezing cold Pacific Ocean).
The one-time star of Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, holds a special place in my heart, as she was the first celebrity I saw my first weekend living in L.A.
Be sure to check out these photos of Teri Hatcher competing in the 2009 Nautica Malibu Triathlon, alongside her fellow Desperate Housewife, Felicity Huffman ('Lynette Scavo'), who ran with her husband William H. Macy last year.
If you like these photos be sure to check out the other celebrities who participated in the Malibu Triathlon 2010 for charity.
I don't think the paparazzi life is for me, for one I don't have a big enough camera, or the fierce determination to get that 'money shot' every time.
I'm just happy to be able to enjoy this Hollywoodland experience while it lasts...
