Cool TV and film billboards around L.A. in August...

The new television season is fast approaching, so all of a sudden a whole glut of billboards for new TV shows appeared in August, along with ads for the last few Summer movies and future teasers.

TV billboards
Revenge billboard
I love this billboard for Emily Van Camp's new drama Revenge, which sees the Brothers & Sisters star move to The Hamptons to get revenge for her family. She'll play 'Emily Thorne' hence the dramatic spiky black dress.
Prime Suspect USA billboard
Prime Suspect gets a U.S. makeover twenty years after Helen Mirren made the female detective famous in the U.K. This time Maria Bello takes on the criminals and the male dominated world of the police force.
Playboy Club billboard
The critical success of the 1960's based Mad Men has sparked new period dramas this season, including The Playboy Club and Pan Am.
Charlie's Angel teaser billboard
And even though I constantly bemoan TV and movie remakes, I'm quite excited for the revival of Charlie's Angels for a new generation on television. They may not have the iconic hair of Farrah Fawcett, but their billboard certainly looks like a haircare product advert.

This month this colourful billboard for celebrity twins Tia & Tamera Mowry's reality TV show really brightened up the skies of L.A.
Tia and Tamera billboard
This billboard for Strike Back really stood out with it's mono creative and vibrant red text.

We've had vampires and werewolves these past few years, now TV studios have turned to witches, both in the fourth season of True Blood and the forthcoming show, The Secret Circle.
Secret Circle TV billboard
Speaking of vampires, Buffy makes her return to television after too long an absence, as Sarah Michelle Gellar returns with a new show, Ringer, about identical twin sisters surrounded by mystery and intrigue.
Ringer TV billboard
This billboard for Law & Order: Criminal Intent made me smile with its 'plausible motive to watch TV' tagline.

And Jane Lynch seems to be everywhere at the moment, not only hosting the Do Something! Awards on VH1, but soon to be seen presenting this year's Emmy's.

If you're a fan the Glee actress, be sure to check out these pictures of Jane Lynch unveiling her Sue Sylvester waxwork at Madame Tussauds Hollywood.

Speaking of funny, Conan O'Brien's tongue-in-cheek billboards for his talk show always make me laugh.

Finally for TV billboards this month, there's another cop show on television, Against the Wall. This one is about a female detective who joins the Internal Affairs department which doesn't go down well with her police father and brothers.

Movie billboards
Moneyball billboard
For movies, Brad Pitt returns in a baseball biopic, Moneyball, looking slightly older these days (must be coping with that huge brood of his).
Crackle comedy movie billboard
Crackle is Sony Pictures new online hub which allows you to watch their back catalogue of movies for free, like these comedies. Be sure to also check out two more giant Crackle movie mash-up billboards along L.A.'s Sunset Strip.
The Change-up movie billboard
With comedies in mind, here's another iteration of The Change-Up movie billboard campaign.
Contagion billboard
I'm quite looking forward to the movie Contagion (well as much as you can look forward to a movie about a killer apocalyptic disease), and love this clever billboard for the film.
Shark Night 3D billboard
Meanwhile Shark Night 3D isn't top of my must-see movie list, but I have to admit that I love this giant billboard for the forthcoming horror.
Giant The Help billboard Sunset Strip
I also loved this bright and eye-catching billboard for The Help, which really is a five ***** star movie and totally worth seeing.
Giant Fright Night movie billboard
Remakes abound this month and sadly the re-imagined Fright Night flopped at the box office, even though it had this fantastic super-sized billboard.
Footloose remake billboard
Then in October we'll see another version of Footloose. Let's hope it's better than the disappointing Fame remake.
Colombiana film billboard
And finally Zoe Saldana stars as an assassin in Colombiana which opened this weekend at cinemas.

August's stylish fashion and lifestyle billboards around L.A...

This month celebrity endorsements, giant billboards and Fall 2011 fashion abound in the skies of L.A. Take a look at August's coolest fashion, drinks and lifestyle billboards around Los Angeles.

Drinks billboards
Jennifer Aniston Smart Water billboard
First up Jennifer Aniston towers of the Sunset Strip in this super-sized billboard for Smart Water. Apparently taste never goes out of fashion.
Rihanna Vita Coco Tropical billboard
On the opposite side of the Andaz Hotel, R&B star Rihanna lends her face to Vita Coco's new Tropical flavoured coconut water.
Giant Heineken beer billboard Sunset Strip
Not to be outdone in the giant billboard stakes, Heineken makes an impression with this massive beer billboard on the side of the 9000 Sunset Boulevard building.
Don Julio Tequila billboard
Don Julio purports that its premium tequila has been raised to a new level of quality, whilst Ketel One believes its vodka is the best for vodka lovers, especially men.

Diet Coke wants us to stay extraordinary, but am I the only one who misses the Diet Coke man in their advertising.

Fashion billboards
Banana Republic Mad Men billboard
Banana Republic's limited edition Mad Men fashion collection is quite inspired and their billboards makes for a great homage to the TV show that spawned Don and Betty Draper, but I wonder if the looks will translate into sales.

Speaking of fashion inspired from the past, this fun billboard for Pepsi Vintage at Kitson stores does indeed look 'totally bodacious'.

Michael Kors celebrates 30 years in fashion this year and the Project Runway judge graces Sunset Plaza with a billboard for his latest looks.

Louis Vuitton finally changes its billboard along the same stretch of Sunset Boulevard. In my mind, for a fashion brand to only change their billboards once every six months or so, suggests they are either lazy or don't really have that much new to say.
Louis Vuitton Fall 2011 billboard
Watch billboards can often be boring and bland, but I love this one for Chanel's J12 Chromatic timepiece emerging from (or sinking into, depending on your perspective) molten silver. It gives it an air of sophistication and luxury.

With lots of brands already advertising winter fashion it's nice to see Hale Bob still looking summery with this dramatic desert themed billboard.

Gucci brings some rich, opulent luxury to their regular billboard location along Sunset Boulevard this month.
Gucci Fall 2011 fashion billboard
And Emporio Armani continues to try and sell winter coats to Los Angelenos in the height and heat of Summer. Fortunately it's a great looking campaign.

The Governator's 17-year-old son, Patrick Schwarzenegger, goes shirtless for this stylish billboard for Hudson Jeans, putting him firmly back in the celebrity spotlight after the recent scandal of a half-brother came to light.

Whilst, Calvin Klein Collection keeps it stylish, for this simple but arresting designer sunglasses billboard.

Performing Arts billboards
LA Phil Passion Forward billboard
As the Hollywood Bowl season winds down, these new billboards for the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra have sprung up for the Walt Disney Concert Hall Winter season.

Health and fitness billboards
Last HIV test billboard
Lastly, but not least, the AIDS Healthcare Foundation continue to use fun campaigns to encourage sexual safety and for people to get HIV tested.

Nostalgic delights at Disney's D23 Expo...

On Friday I popped along to Disney's D23 Expo, which is for die-hard Disney fans, but my mission was to see and photograph as many original costumes and props as I could.

Disney's D23 Expo
Disney D23 Expo 2011 Anaheim Convention Center
I like Disney, but I'm certainly not as passionate about it as real hardcore fans, but I still got a kick out of seeing all the different exhibits and stands at the event at the Anaheim Convention Center.

This is the second D23 Expo, the first was almost two years ago in September 2009, and I'm told this one was much bigger and better than the inaugural event, and busier too, with Saturday selling out at maximum capacity.

There were some real spectacular sights from Disney movies on show, including this 'miniature' Black Pearl pirate ship model used in the second and third Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Original Alice in Wonderland costumes on display

I didn't sit through any of the scheduled presentations, to be honest I'm not much of an exhibition goer after working countless shows for my work in the U.K., but I did take a look at what the theme parks have planned for the future and that was quite cool.

Costumes from the original Tron movie
Tron 1982 movie costumes
My favourite part of D23 was the Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives, 12,000-square-feet filled with authentic costumes, props and more from Disney movies that frankly made me feel rather nostalgic and fortunate for being able to see so many items up close.

The highlight for me had to be these original Tron costumes which were displayed brilliantly under neon lighting.

In addition to the archives upstairs, they also had costumes and props on display from the latest Pirates of the Caribbean movie, On Stranger Tides, which I'd mostly seen before when I'd watched the film at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

There was also movie memorabilia from The Rocketeer, 101 Dalmatians (the live-action movie), Hocus Pocus, National Treasure, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Father of the Bride and TV shows like LOST and Zorro from the late-50's.

Glenn Close's Cruella De Vil costume from 101 Dalmatians

You can see why people love Disney so much with all of these cool things all together under the same roof.
Mickey Mouse Disney D23 Expo
Let's hope the D23 Expo is a success, so we can see more costume and prop exhibits in the future.

Personally I think it'd be great to see some displays from Mary Poppins, Escape to Witch Mountain, Return to Oz and The Black Hole to name but a few films...
