More highlights from L.A.'s Pride Parade 2013...

With the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the hateful Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) and California's loathsome Proposition 8, it's even more important that the gay community stand up and be loud and proud, so enjoy these further highlights from last Sunday's L.A. Pride Parade in West Hollywood.

When I look at all the photos I took of the Parade wending its way along Santa Monica Boulevard, I saw lots of happy faces, lots of love and masses of pride.

Alongside those entertaining the crowds with dance routines and pom-poms, there were also those willing to remind spectators that we do still have far to go for full equality, especially on issues like marriage and immigration reform.

It was encouraging to see so many people, especially the youthful participants, willing to march to campaign for and celebrate gay rights and equality, plus show their support for their loved ones. After all, gay or straight, they are the future and so hopefully future generations won't have to struggle to live openly gay lives with their support (and voting decisions).

The annual Pride Parade also reminds me of all the fantastic organisations helping the community, those needing food and shelter, invaluable assistance for those living with HIV/AIDS and the advocacy groups fighting for our rights and to change public perception.

I'm also reminded that not everyone in the country, or around the world, can openly celebrate their gay pride. I only have to read the news about treatment of gays in places like Russia or Iran, or gay bashing and bullying around the U.S., and I know I'm one of the lucky ones to be able to live my life so freely.

I'm hoping for some good news next week from the U.S. Supreme Court and for real change to start. There's a real movement at the moment with more and more U.S. States making gay marriage legal, so let's hope if we can overturn more of these unequal and prejudicial laws it'll be like a domino effect and change will come quickly.

Hopefully when all the fighting for justice, safety and equality are over, we can all start having a lot more fun and really have something to celebrate.

Be sure to check out more photos from West Hollywood's Pride Parade festivities and let's hope at next year's L.A. Pride Parade we'll be enjoying and celebrating California's same-sex marriage victory.

Keep your pom-poms crossed...
