Eye-catching movie billboards around L.A. in December 2013...

Can believe another Christmas Day has already come and gone, and just like Halloween, as soon as the day passes all the festive billboards lining the skies immediately become very dated. Here are some holiday themed billboards, plus some of the movies that were battling it out for Christmas viewing supremacy at the box office this year.

Theme Park billboards
Grinchmas Universal Studios Hollywood billboard 2013
First up is a creative for Universal Studio Hollywood's annual Grinchmas celebrations, based upon the popular 2000 live-action adaptation of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas movie which starred Jim Carrey as the titular green-furred creature.

If you're a fan of the character and the movie, be sure to check out all these original costumes, props and models from The Grinch on display at Universal Studios Hollywood theme park over the years.

Movie billboards
A Madea Christmas movie billboard
One of the most overtly Christmas-themed movies this year was Tyler Perry's A Madea Christmas, which just screamed Christmas with the festive decorated tree and titular comedy character 'Madea' dressed as Santa.
Secret life of Walter Mitty movie billboard
Other Christmas movie offerings were far less festive, but no less fantastical, like this fun creative for Ben Stiller's latest daydreaming drama, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.
Giant Saving Mr Banks movie billboard
Disney also served up a critically-acclaimed true story based on how Walt Disney convinced writer P. L. Travers to allow him to adapt Mary Poppins for the big screen, just in time for the magical nanny's 50th anniversary celebrations.
Hobbit Desolation of Smaug movie billboard
Here's another ad creative for The Hobbit 2, just one of many different billboards filling the skies of L.A. in the month of December, this one throwing everything into the mix to grab your attention including familiar elves, dwarves, archers and hobbits.

If you're a fan of Peter Jackson's latest J. R. R. Tolkien adaptation, be sure to take a look at these Bilbo, Thorin and Gandalf costumes from The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on display.
Giant 47 Ronin movie billboard
Speaking of fantasy tales, Keanu Reeves was back this month with a new samurai fantasy tale, 47 Ronin, hoping to recapture his glory days box office appeal from The Matrix.
Wolf of Wall Street movie billboard
One movie which doesn't really appeal to me this season is Martin Scorsese's The Wolf of Wall Street, not only is it around three hours long, but its tale of greed and corruption seems a very unfestive combination at this time of year.
Grudge Match movie billboard
Another Christmas Day hopeful which totally flopped was Grudge Match, starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone in a comedy boxing movie.
August Osage County movie billboard
And one more film for Christmas Day, at least in L.A., was August: Osage County, a new all-star family drama starring the likes of Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale and more, a perfectly timed release for the run up to award season.
Her movie billboard
Another movie out this month was the quirky love story, Her, starring Joaquin Phoenix who falls in love with the voice of his new operating system, played by Scarlett Johansson.

Having been away I've got some catching up to do at the cinema, but what have you seen and liked this month?

Stick around in the days to come for more billboard round-ups, from TV shows to festive drinks and lifestyle ads filling the skies of L.A. in December...
