Fun and festive Christmas windows inspired by The Bear & The Hare John Lewis TV commercial...

Living abroad at Christmas time you always miss certain British festive favourites like mince pies, Christmas pudding and even the wintery weather. When it comes to Christmas shopping I always miss certain retailers like Paperchase, Heals, M&S and John Lewis for food, gift-wrapping and present ideas.

This year I've been especially inspired by the festive commercial from the department store chain John Lewis featuring The Bear & The Hare, which is a heartwarming animated tale and brings to mind one of my favorite animated films, Watership Down.
Apparently the advert cost £1 million to make and the retailer is spending £7 million on the entire ad campaign, which includes air time.

The commercial which features Lily Allen singing a cover of Keane's 'Somewhere Only We Know', is a heart-warming tale of friendship amongst the forest animals, especially the hibernating bear and his friend the hare, who gives him an alarm clock for Christmas so he can wake up and enjoy the festivities with all his woodland friends.

In addition to having lots of festive woodland animal gift and decoration ideas in store, the high street retailer has also replicated the campaign in its Peter Jones location in London's Sloane Square

Rather creatively though, these birds and animals are made entirely from everyday things you can buy at the store, which is an inspired idea.

So there's reindeers made out of Dyson vacuum cleaners, birds made out of cutlery and utensils, squirrels made of coffee mugs and kettles, hares made with hair curling tongs, shavers and brushes, bears made out of games consoles and picnic baskets, wolves made out of lamps, and even turkeys made out of towels. Such imagination.

Aside from being incredibly fun and eye-catching (many other people were taking photos with their cameras and smartphones of the festive windows), it's a wonderful way to continue the TV campaign message in-store and continue to capture customers imaginations.

You can't help but feel warm and fuzzy when you see this fantastical window display and it's certainly a lot more fun than the usual store windows filled with boring mannequins and products.

I'm not sure if Lily Allen's song will be Christmas No.1 in the U.K. charts this year, but these inventive animal creations are definitely a smash hit in my opinion and it makes me miss stores like John Lewis even more this time of year.

These festive windows helped capture the holiday spirit, so let the countdown to Christmas continue...
