Fantastic TV show billboards around L.A. in June 2013...

The sun may be shining and everyone may be outdoors enjoying summertime, but there's plenty of great new shows and returning TV favourites to enjoy on the box at the moment. Here's a collection of the coolest television billboards around the streets of Los Angeles in June 2013.

TV billboards
Giant Devious Maids billboard
Lifetime have spent a fortune in recent months promoting their new show Devious Maids, which is by the creator of Desperate Housewives. This eye-catching beauty is just one of the giant creatives in a really fun ad campaign for Devious Maids, be sure to check out all the sex, scandal and murder yourself.
Giant True Blood season 6 billboard
As well as debut series, there's old favourites returning this summer, including True Blood for its sixth supernatural season and the first without its creator Alan Ball at the helm. The previous season promotional posters have always gone for more overtly sexual themes, whilst this red creative has a real psycho, horror vibe to it which I think mixes things up.
Dexter season 8 billboard
Meanwhile Michael C. Hall returns for an eighth and final season as the 'good' serial killer Dexter and I love this cool creative which has so many implications. Is our anti-hero being suffocated, does he have a plastic sheet over him because he's dead, or just to protect himself from all that blood splatter when he's murdering someone? It's very arresting and intriguing and I'd expect nothing less from a Dexter TV billboard.
Breaking Bad final episodes billboard
Another show coming to an end is the critically-adored Breaking Bad, which is back soon for the final episodes of its fifth season of meth making mayhem (although I think some people may refer to this as their sixth swan song season).
Magic City Season 2 billboard
The sophomore season of Magic City has a wonderful retro feel to it (which is lucky as it's a gangster show set in 1950's Miami), and certainly a nod (intentional or not) to another period TV series, Mad Men.
Copper season 2 billboard
And speaking of time periods, BBC America's Copper is back patrolling the rough and ready streets of 1865 New York for a second season.
Newsroom Season 2 billboard
One of my favourite new shows of last year, The Newsroom (we devoured them all at once via HBO on demand), returns for a second season with this atmospheric and thought-provoking mono billboard. Can't wait.
House of Cards Emmy 2013 billboard
Plus this month and last saw a real glut of ad campaigns from cable channels and networks for their Emmy hopefuls, including this cool cast billboard for Netflix original series House of Cards. Be sure to check out all these other Emmy Award consideration billboards from around L.A., including ads for The Walking Dead, Homeland, Vikings and many more.
Under The Dome billboard
Under The Dome is the latest adaptation of Stephen King's work and should provide some sci-fi thrills this summer on CBS as it follows a small American town that gets trapped beneath a mysterious impenetrable shield.
Ray Donovan billboard
Liev Schreiber returns to the small screen as an L.A. fixer to the rich, famous and morally questionable in Showtime's new drama.
The Bridge series premiere billboards
Another fantastic set of billboards on opposite sides of the Sunset Strip which caught my eye this month for a new show was for the U.S. remake of The Bridge. This crime thriller is set on the Texas/Mexico border, where two different police jurisdictions have to cooperate to solve a killing spree on both sides of the border.

Be sure to check out these billboards for The Bridge series premiere in closer detail and more creatives at my fab Daily Billboard blog.
Hot in Cleveland live season 5 billboard
Most shows in their later seasons seem to like to do a live show to keep things fresh and liven things up.  This time is was the turn of sitcom veteran Betty White and her Hot in Cleveland gal pals for their fifth season premiere.
Real Housewives New Jersey 5 billboard
From live sitcoms to 'live' reality TV, which feels more and more scripted and fake these days. Enter the fifth season of The Real Housewives of New Jersey on Bravo. The tagline 'Family is a force of nature' is quite appropriate for this waring clan coping with the devastation left behind by Hurricane Sandy.
King and Maxwell billboard
Probably one of the blandest television billboards this month was for TNT's new private investigator drama King & Maxwell. Usually when a new series can't muster more than a few headshots to support a show, that doesn't say much about a compelling premise (regardless of whether Rebecca Romjin played 'Mystique' in the X-Men movies and Ugly Betty's transgender character 'Alexis Meade').
Adult Swim Greatest event tv history billboard
And speaking of detective duos, over on Adult Swim we were treated to the mockumentary special The Greatest Event in Television History, which was a parody of 80's show Hart to Hart, starring Adam Scott and Amy Poehler.
Venture Bros season 5 billboard
Also The Venture Bros. returned for a fifth season of crazy animated misadventures with this rather retro mind-blowing ad creative.
Futurama final season 7 billboard
And it seems like a lot of series are coming to an end this year, as Futurama bows out with its seventh season (after having already been cancelled by Fox and resurrected on Comedy Central).

As you can see it's been a crowded sky this month with lots of interesting creatives to capture your imagination and hopefully new viewers.

Bye for now, and be sure to stay tuned in the days to come for a round-up of the fashion and lifestyle billboards spotted around L.A. in June...

Summer movie and music billboards around L.A. in June...

If Iron Man 3, Star Trek Into Darkness and Fast & Furious 6 weren't enough for you, this summer the blockbusters just keep coming and so do the spectacular movie billboards lining L.A.'s skies (plus some supercool music billboards too).

Movie billboards
Giant World War Z movie billboard
Whilst I loved the billboard ad campaign for World War Z, especially this super-sized creative towering over Wilshire Boulevard, I was worried after hearing all the development hell stories about the movie and worried it would be an apocalyptic mess. Imagine my surprise when it turned out to be a suspenseful, action-packed and not at all overly gory zombie flick. Yes, the ending wasn't the most imaginative, but it did end up in my home country Wales, so it's not all bad, right?
Giant Man of Steel movie billboard
On the other hand, my early reservations about the darkness of the Superman reboot were slightly allayed by the teaser trailers, but critical and fanboy reviews weren't overly positive. So when I actually went to see Zack Snyder's Man of Steel my expectations were suitably low. I have to say that I really enjoyed the mix of superheroics and sci-fi (whilst others watching with me didn't), which really added a new spin on the Son of Krypton's origin story.

My main problems were what Superman did to 'General Zod', plus his flagrant disregard for property damage and the fact he didn't really rescue that many people along the way. A lighter tone and some more humour would have helped too.
Giant Monsters University movie billboard
I've yet to see Disney/Pixar's Monsters Inc. sequel, but I loved these giant and special extension Monsters University billboards around town.
Despicable Me 2 movie billboard
More computer-animated high jinks coming our way this summer is in the form of another comedy sequel and those hilarious Minions. If you're a fan, be sure to check out all these fun movie billboards for Despicable Me 2.
Turbo movie billboard
Another new face racing onto the scene this July is DreamWorks Turbo, who in a clever twist of fate is a super-fast snail, voiced by Ryan Reynolds. I love this cute special extension billboard for the forthcoming movie.
The Heat movie billboard
Another film I'm eagerly anticipating is The Heat, a comedy copy buddy movie starring two of my favourite funny ladies, Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy.
This Is the End movie billboard
The other apocalyptic movie this month was This Is The End, which starred a lot of famous names as fictional versions of themselves faced with the literal end of the world. I've heard great things about the comedy.
Grown Ups 2 movie billboard
One comedy returning for a second installment in July is Grown Ups 2, this time though the line up of Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James and David Spade is minus Rob Schneider from the first film. At least that's one less nostalgic photo to fit on this scrapbook billboard creative.
White House Down movie billboard
Channing Tatum's star continues to rise and in his latest movie he's tasked with rescuing Jamie Foxx's U.S. President when terrorists attack Washington D.C. If you're a fan of the actors, be sure to check out their movie costumes from White House Down on display.
Giant Pacific Rim movie billboard
Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim is sure to be huge at the box office this summer, because who doesn't like to see giant robots fighting grotesque Godzilla-like monsters. These Pacific Rim movie billboards have certainly overtaken the streets and skies of Los Angeles this month.
Lone Ranger movie billboard
I'm still not sure about Disney's remake of The Lone Ranger, mostly because of their over-reliance on Johnny Depp of late in all their movies.

With that being said, they do have some cool billboards for the movie around town, plus if you are a fan, check out these original costumes from The Lone Ranger worn by Johnny Depp, Armie Hammer and Helena Bonham Carter on display.
Epix Avengers billboard
One of my favourite movies from last year was Marvel's The Avengers, now that was an action-packed, crowd-pleasing blockbuster. This month it was showing on the Epix channel.
The Iceman movie billboard
From blockbusters to smaller critically-acclaimed movies, which saw Man of Steel's 'General Zod' star as an infamous Mafia hitman without his family's knowledge. Be sure to check out Michael Shannon's retro costume from The Iceman on display.
LA Film Fest 2013 billboard
And speaking of smaller (but no less deserving of your attention) movies, I'm loving this cool billboard for L.A.'s independent film festival.

Music billboards
Madonna MDNA Tour Epix billboard
In addition to all the fabulous movie billboards lining the city skyline, there were also a cool collection of music-themed ads too, like this Madonna billboard for her MDNA Tour available to watch on Epix. One day I would love to see her live, but ideally in a smaller venue and with tickets that won't cost me an arm and a leg.
Rhye Woman album billboards
Meanwhile, I thought these billboards to promote Rhye's debut album 'Woman' was quite clever, with its vinyl discs peeking over the top.
Queens Stone Age Like Clockwork billboard
And Queens of the Stone Age really grabbed my attention with their macabre special extension billboard which channeled that Phantom of the Opera and vampire vibe for their new album ...Like Clockwork.

I hope you like what you see here at Jason in Hollywood. If you do, be sure to share, like, pin, tweet and tumble to your hearts desire. Plus if you want to use any images, please do ask permission as people misusing my content has unfortunately destroyed the SEO on my blog.

Refreshing drinks billboard advertising around L.A. in June...

The sun is shining brightly in L.A. and it feels like it's the 4th July weekend already, so let's get into the holiday spirit with these refreshing alcoholic and soft drinks beverage billboards from around the city streets in June.

Drinks billboards
Open for Summer Coca-Cola billboard
One of my favourite drinks ad campaigns this month were Coke's Open for Summer billboards as they seemed to really capture the spirit of summertime with their outdoor imagery of BBQs, tents and sun umbrellas. You can check out out the two other ad creatives from their new campaign at my Daily Billboard blog.
Sparkling Ice Water billboard
Meanwhile this month I've also spotted a few different colour billboards for Sparking Ice Water's new bottled flavoured spring water. It really is amazing how many different ways companies try to sell us water and charge us a premium price for it too.
Svedka Vodka 2013 billboard
Svedka Vodka has always had some of my favourite billboards with their previous fembot ad creatives, but I'm also liking their new ad campaign to support their clear vodka and new flavoured product variants. If you like this vibrant ad, be sure to check out the rest of Svedka's new 2013 ad campaign to see what you think.
Clive Owen Three Olives Vodka billboard
It must be tough to be a vodka brand out there in the crowded marketplace, but it doesn't stop the likes of London-based Three Olives Vodka launching their new ad campaign featuring Brit actor Clive Owen.
Ciroc Lemonade Vodka billboard
Plus Ciroc Vodka isn't going to let anyone muscle in on their turf, so this month they've been suggesting you try their spirit with some zesty lemonade with their latest ads.
Candice Accola Midori billboard
Midori melon liqueur has a new celebrity endorsing it this month too. The Vampire Diaries actress Candice Accola replaced a pregnant Kim Kardashian as the face of the green alcoholic tipple on this new Greenlight the Night billboard.
Martell Journey next level billboard
Meanwhile Martell Cognac debuted a new ad creative along L.A.'s Sunset Strip, encouraging drinkers to 'Journey to the next level'.

Have you noticed that the product bottle really is the hero, or the star, in all these advertisements?
Find your beach Corona billboard
In the land of beer, Corona Extra is back again this year with their Find Your Beach campaign, which really does make you feel like relaxing on a tropical beach, or poolside, somewhere with a mouth-watering cold drink.
Stella Artois beer billboard Hollywood
Plus Stella Artois continues their latest 'Less a glass, more a display cabinet' campaign with this extra-tall billboard towering over Hollywood's Sunset & Vine. Be sure to check out more giant Stella Artois billboards along L.A.'s infamous Sunset Strip, where it's been since March this year.
Blue Moon beer billboard
Blue Moon beer also returns to the Strip this month with a much bluer creative, which stands out amongst its competitors because it's a painted design rather than photographed.
Heineken Star Bottle billboards
Plus Heineken continues to support its newly launched Star Bottle shape with lots of billboards, like these along Highland Avenue in Hollywood.
Budweiser Designate driver billboard
And finally, Budweiser is being the responsible one this month with this don't drink and drive message, which is especially important at this time of year when it's ever so easy to glug back a few beers in the summer heat and all those parties.

Food billboards
McDonalds Big Mac billboard 2013
And just in case you're feeling peckish, here are some fast food and snack advertisements to sate your munchies cravings. I'm not a McDonalds fan (I've not eaten there for many, many years), but this hamburger certainly looks impressive and deserves to be called a 'Big Mac' (now if only every single burger you bought actually looked like this).
Hostess Twinkies countdown 2013 billboard
There was a huge outcry when Hostess announced they'd stop production of their infamous Twinkies in November 2012, but it looks like the cream-filled snack will be back on shelves this summer. Let the countdown to your sugar high begin.

As you can see, there's loads of drinks brands competing for your hard earned cash this summer season and at least for me, making the skies of L.A. an interesting, ever-changing landscape of ideas.

West Hollywood's DOMA and Prop 8 victory celebrations...

Today I woke up feeling a little bit more equal and full of hope for the future. After the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the heinous Defense of Marriage Act and decided not to rule on California's equally hateful Proposition 8, West Hollywood's LGBT community came out last night to celebrate our victories in equal rights and reclaiming gay marriage in the Golden State.

West Hollywood DOMA and Prop 8 victory rally
Thousands of locals gathered beside WEHO's Park along San Vicente Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard to welcome home the victorious lawyers and plaintiffs in the Prop 8 case and to celebrate the fantastic verdict of the SCOTUS ruling. Plus more packed into the bars to raise a glass, or two, to equality.
West Hollywood DOMA and Prop 8 victory rally
When it was voted in four years ago, backed by the lies, fear-mongering and hatred of religious groups, who knew how Proposition 8 would actually galvanize our community to take action, be less apathetic and fight for our rights once more. I couldn't believe how it could ever became law in California in the first place, so I for one am glad that it's now as dead as a dodo.
DOMA Prop 8 victory rally West Hollywood
Oscar-winning MILK screenwriter and LGBT activist, Dustin Lance Black, was on hand to address the proud and happy rally and to introduce the anti-Prop 8 legal team of Ted Olson and David Boies, plus the courageous plaintiffs in the historic case, Sandy Stier and Kris Perry and Jeff Zarrillo and Paul Katami.
Dustin Lance Black prop 8 victory rally WEHO
Not being religious, I was never overly concerned with what it was called as long we had the same rights, benefits and laws as straight couples. But I was reminded last night that unless it's called 'marriage' and not a gay partnership, then we're not truly equal, as words do matter.

The crowd was also reminded that even though we'd earned this celebration, there was still lots of work to do to make same-sex marriage possible for the 37 other U.S. States where the right to marry is being blocked.
DOMA Prop 8 victory rally WEHO
I for one am hoping that these amazing results will be like a domino effect that will sweep across this nation and soon gay marriage will be a Federal reality and not just a dream. Plus now with the repeal of DOMA, Americans (and hopefully visitors) will be afforded the same rights as any straight married couple with regards tax, benefits and legal issues.

Here's to more equality, less discrimination and to be able to one day arrive at the U.S. immigration desk and approach as a gay couple without being told they don't recognise your relationship status (whereas at the Canadian border they do accept and respect you already).

It's going to happen and it's going to happen sooner rather than later...
