More glitter, glamour and eleganza at West Hollywood's 2014 Pride Parade...

Now that the glitter, feathers and sequins have settled along Santa Monica Boulevard, it's time to have a look back at more highlights of this year's West Hollywood Pride Parade.

I applaud all the people who went to the effort of making a float and taking part in the Parade, wherever they came from, near or far.

And I'm grateful for all the cheerleaders, drag queens, muscular go-go boys, singers, dancers, band members and all the participants that came out to celebrate L.A.'s Gay Pride and entertain the 400,000 spectators for several hours in the heat.

You don't make change happen by being invisible, so whether it's with rainbow-hued balloons, fabulous costumes, fun float designs or simple signs and banners, the annual Pride Parade is such an important part of the LGTB community.

We all celebrate Pride in our own ways, some people just come to watch the Parade, others flock to the festival or throw fabulous parties, but most importantly we recognize issues and challenges facing our community and celebrate the victories and march toward ultimate equality.

Amongst all the participants promoting local bars and clubs, it's always encouraging to see big businesses like banks and TV and film studios recognizing their LGTB employees and their families.

It's also a great time for charities and organizations to raise awareness of their good deeds for the gay community and the services they provide like Project Angel Food, providing vital meals to those with HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.

Plus there's also PFLAG, an organization for parents of gay children and their families and The Trevor Project suicide and intervention helpline, who have been so essential helping the youth of today with all the bullying they receive at school and in their communities, like pioneering the 'It gets better' video project.

Then there's advocacy groups making sure we keep fighting for equal worker rights and against discrimination in the workplace.

The Los Angeles LGBT Center had a big presence in this year's Parade and an impressive float to celebrate the work they do caring and championing for the city's LGBT community, both young and old.

And I'm not usually a big fan of religion, they always seem to be out to kill or convert us, but if they are our allies then they are always welcome. We could do with more Mormons, Catholics and other God-fearing folk who support us and believe in gay marriage.

If you like these prideful images, be sure to also check out more photos from this year's West Hollywood Pride Parade, which included pop diva, Demi Lovato, shooting her new music video (some would say at the expense of her Grand Marshal duties).
Gay Men's Chorus West Hollywood Pride Parade 2014
From being serenaded by the Gay Men's Chorus, to costumes inspired by Disney's The Lion King and Maleficent, there was lots to see and listen to this past weekend.

One thing that really caught my eye during the vibrant Parade, which snaked its way from Crescent Heights Boulevard to the festival entrance at San Vicente Boulevard, was this bus topped with 'Bernadette' in a giant high heel, from the touring Priscilla, Queen of the Desert Musical, which is a must-see.

I've seen the Priscilla Musical in London and New York City and it's always a riot of fabulous costumes and familiar songs, plus it's based on one of my favourite films of all time about the ultimate Drag Queen/transexual road trip Down Under.

Pride may be over for another twelve months in West Hollywood, but that doesn't mean the spirit of the Parade needs to be forgotten until next year.

Let's hope the year ahead sees more U.S. states allow gay marriage for their residents, 27 and counting so far, more awareness and educational victories for the transgender community, less teen gay suicides and more global sanctions and action taken against homophobic countries around the world like Russia and Uganda. And that's just for starters.

There are still many challenges and barriers to break down, but it's an exciting time to be out, loud and proud, now just to keep the momentum going.

Write to you local politicians to take action, volunteer your time to your local groups and help fundraise for essential charities that support the LGBT community (I'll be running the New York Marathon and L.A. Marathon for AIDS Project L.A. to do my part).

And finally on a lighter note, here's our pup indulging in a celebratory Pride mimosa (before he got started on the hard stuff)...
