August 2014's coolest movie and music billboards around L.A...

This Summer has seen its share of flops and hits at the box office, but that doesn't stop studios from spending mega-bucks on outdoor advertising to get you into those cinema seats. Here's a selection of the some of the best out-of-home movie billboards filling L.A.'s skies in August, plus the music ads also making waves on the streets.

Movie billboards
Giant Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle billboards Downtown LA
The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may have helped Guardians of the Galaxy save the Summer box office, but did we really need another reboot of the comic book characters (at least Paramount obviously thought so).

They certainly spent a lot of marketing dollars to secure that impressive opening weekend of $65.5 million, so be sure to check out all these Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie billboards around L.A.
The Expendables 3 movie billboard
Meanwhile one movie franchise which wasn't doing well despite some cool billboards was The Expendables 3. Looks like you can't have too many aging action heroes and no real plot after all, but I did love this fun special extension billboard with all the life-size stars sitting atop it.
Let's Be Cops movie billboard
Another movie which didn't fare so well was the R-Rated comedy, Let's Be Cops, about you guessed it, two guys pretending to be cops after they are mistaken for them in fancy dress.
The Equalizer movie remake billboard
Another reboot heading to cinema screens this year is The Equalizer with Denzel Washington in lead role. Expect a very different take on the 80's TV character made famous by Edward Woodward.
The November Man movie billboard
Meanwhile a former 007 is trying to reboot his career with another spy role, this time Pierce Brosnan stars in the adaptation of Bill Granger's The November Man series of novels. Funny thing is, the espionage thriller also stars former Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko from 2008's Quantum of Solace.
Sin City A Dame To Kill For movie billboard
Frank Miller's Sin City got a sequel ten years too late as A Dame to Kill For bombed at the cinema, no matter its new and returning all-star cast.
No Good Deed movie billboard
No Good Deed looks like it's going to be a good psychological home invasion story and it'll be interesting to see Idris Elba play the villain for a change.
Giant As Above So Below movie billboard
On the other hand, I fear that even though As Above, So Below has the coolest visual, with an inverted Eiffel Tower and not to mention those skulls, the horror film itself about an expedition through the Paris catacombs may be one shaky cam film too far.
If I Stay movie billboard
If I Stay was another young adult novel to hit the big screen this Summer and at least the romance about a young cellist trapped between life and death had an interesting ad campaign with these montage billboard creatives.
The Giver movie billboard
Meanwhile you can add The Giver to the growing pile of failed young adult adaptations, all looking to try and achieve The Hunger Games, Harry Potter or Twilight Saga franchise magic.
Hundred Foot Journey movie billboard
And finally The Hundred-Foot Journey was a rather sweet (some may say overly so) story about an Indian family who move to the French countryside and the oldest son becomes a famous Michelin star chef, merging techniques from his homeland with French cuisine.

Music and radio billboards
Giant Beyonce Jay Z On the run tour billboard
In the world of music, no matter their marital status (or maybe because of it) Beyoncé and Jay Z were making a big impact along the Sunset Strip for their On the Run concert tour special on HBO.
Britney Spears Piece of Me Las Vegas show billboard
Plus Britney Spears was delivering more pieces of herself at her Las Vegas concert, with more shows added.
Giant Krewella Light Nightclub Las Vegas billboard
Speaking of Vegas, and it seems the destination is not just about gambling these days, but more about the hottest bars and clubs and which DJs and acts they have playing there, so expect even more giant billboards for Krewella and the like in the future.
Jessie J Ariana Grande Nicki Minaj Bang Bang billboard
Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj have teamed up to deliver the song Bang Bang this Summer, but it sounds a bit like 2001's Lady Marmalade featuring Christina Aguilera, Pink, Lil' Kim and Mya if you ask me.
Ariana Grande My Everything album billboard
Meanwhile Ariana Grande is leaving her kids Nickelodeon show behind to launch her sexy grown up singing career with the album My Everything. Let's hope she fares better than Miley Cyrus.
MTV Video Music Awards Usher is coming billboard
Next is a billboard that could have existed in the TV round-up too, but as the MTV Video Music Awards are all about the music industry you can see why it belongs here. Not only was Usher coming in these teaser ads, but also Beyoncé in this MTV VMA billboard.
Whats ahead KNX News radio freeway dinosaur billboard
And finally, this month this dinosaur wreaking havoc on the freeway billboard for KNX 10.70 news radio was a lot of fun and a nice way to make the news seems more interesting.

As you can see, lots of variety at the cinema this month. Come back next month for more great movie and music billboard round-ups and stay tuned in the days to come for this past month's stylish fashion and new TV billboards filling the L.A. skyline...
