Out of this world Guardians of the Galaxy, Harry Potter and Batman movie costume and props on display...

Sometimes I think I have have the best life. Not only do I get to go to the occasional World Premiere in Hollywood, but as I live so close to where a lot the movies are made (or at least where the big studios have their headquarters), I also get to see a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes costumes and props that go into bringing the movies fantastical worlds to life.

On July 21, 2014 I was fortunate enough to walk the red carpet of the Guardians of the Galaxy World Premiere at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood and aside from seeing all the film's many stars, I also got to enjoy the movie a few weeks before everyone else, which was a real treat.

From the blockbuster box office opening weekend results it's obvious that people love the new cosmic Marvel movie as much as I did, so you can imagine my delight when I was able to get up close with some of the original costumes from the movie on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema.

If you're a GOTG fan, be sure to check out Chris Pratt's Star-Lord movie costume and Zoe Saldana's Gamora Guardians of the Galaxy costume on display in closer detail at my costume and props blog.

Another cool Hollywoodland exhibit that had me geeking out recently was when I visited Warner Bros. Studios VIP Tour Museum for their fantastic 75th Anniversary Batman movie exhibit, which includes original costumes and props from all seven big screen motion pictures.

Best of all these authentic pieces are wonderfully presented and they are not behind display cases, so you can have a good look (but obviously no touching no matter how much you may want to) and you can take photos without flash. Even though I'm a true Marvel Comics fan, I was still in fanboy heaven, having watched all these DC Comics movies multiple times over the years.
The Dark Knight Rises Batman costume exhibit
The fantastic exhibition had costumes worn by Jack Nicholson as The Joker in 1989's Batman, Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman catsuit and Danny DeVito's Penguin costume from Batman Returns and many more wonderful discoveries besides.

And that's not all as that's only the downstairs of the museum, when you go upstairs you're in Harry Potter heaven as there are screen-used costumes, models and props from all eight magical films.

If you loved the books and movies, then walking through the exhibit is like a dream come true and you're sure to find something from one of your favourite films, there are monsters, wizard and witch fashion, plus magical items all over.

The exhibit was so good that we've started to watch all the Harry Potter movies from scratch again for the umpteenth time, just to see what they looked like on the big screen (and the films really do stand the test of time).

So as you can see there's loads of amazing movie exhibits from the worlds of sci-fi, superheroes and the supernatural on display around L.A. at the moment if you know where to look.

Hopefully now that the blockbuster Summer movie season is almost over, there'll be more costumes and props on display at my local cinemas, especially in the run up to awards season.

Just like I said, there are worse ways to spend my time...
