From the rings of Jupiter to our wedding rings...

A week ago, more than a year after we got married we finally picked out our wedding bands and to celebrate the occasion we bought a box at the Hollywood Bowl to see Holst's Planets played by the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra.

The Planets Concert Hollywood Bowl 2014
There wasn't any special significance in the choice of concert, only that our best friends were in town visiting from the U.K. and we wanted them to experience the outdoor amphitheatre in style, so even more reason to celebrate.

We had the perfect central seats, with an amazing view of the stage, although it really doesn't matter when you're there to listen to an orchestra as the acoustics are so great at the venue, but it was wonderful to watch the accompanying NASA images on the big screen above the stage which showed computer generated simulations of the planets and the actual Mars landing.
Conductor composer drummer Erskine Concerto Hollywood Bowl
In advance of the seven movements of Gustav Holst's The Planets, the first act featured the North American debut of English composer Mark-Anthony Turnage's 'Erskine - Concerto for Drum Set and Orchestra', with Peter Erskine on drums and a very witty Bramwell Tovey introducing and conducting the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Before the entire concert started we celebrated with a feast of yummy food and a bottle or two of champagne (and more besides, well there were six of us) and we exchanged our rings, which are very simple and platinum and from David Yurman on Rodeo Drive.
Putting a ring on it
I've never been a big jewelry person and have never worn a ring, so it's feeling a little strange and taking some getting used to (a bit like the one ring to rule them all from The Lord of the Rings), but we finally "put a ring on it".

What more could you ask for, great company, great music, great wine and a little bling besides.

For our 'special day' you can check out these wedding day photos from last July and here's to our happily ever after...
