David Bowie and Prince GuitarTown tributes along the Sunset Strip...

More extra-large Gibson Les Paul guitars are back along the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, all decorated as homages to iconic recording artists and musicians, in what is rumored to be the last wave of the GuitarTown public art installation for charity.

Since August 2010 these unique GuitarTown creations have been gracing the infamous West Hollywood stretch of Sunset Boulevard and the latest guitars spotted are tributes to David Bowie and Prince.

More now than ever the Sunset Strip needs some help to turn it into an outdoor gallery, as there is so much construction in the neighbourhood, that some art is what's needed to distract locals and tourists of all the roadworks, major hotel developments and general mess making life hell of late.

This intricate David Bowie tribute is called 'The Man Who Stole the World', inspired by the title track of his third studio album, by artist Gino Burman-Loffredo

I like the gold, black and white colour scheme and that this collage of images includes several of the singer's personas, like 'Ziggy Stardust' and is that his 'Jareth - Goblin King' look from the fantasy movie Labyrinth into stop left-hand corner?

This giant guitar homage is currently on display outside the infamous House of Blues venue, which is also soon to be demolished like so many buildings along the Strip.

Meanwhile further west along Sunset Boulevard opposite Hustler, this Prince tribute guitar by Foremost (Darryl King) can be found displayed on the street.

You can obviously see the 'When Doves Cry' influences on this collage guitar creation, some purple rain along the neck and there's even the recording artist's signature squiggle symbol on the back of the design.

I'm sure this won't be the last guitars to pop up in this new wave, just like this Freddie Mercury tribute guitar, so I'll keep me eyes peeled as it's nice to see them brightening the neighborhood amongst all the trucks, dust and honking cars stuck in even worse traffic than usual.

If this is to be the last iteration of Sunset Strip's GuitarTown, maybe someone should think about resurrecting the Community of Angels sculptural project to take its place...
