Cool movie and music billboards filling L.A.'s skies in December 2014...

This holiday season the cinemas seem jam-packed with films to entertain us, from biopics to book adaptations, comedy sequels and movie remakes. Here's a selection of the cool movie billboards vying for your attention in the skies of L.A. in December, plus the music-themed billboards saying 'look at me' too.

Movie billboards
Inherent Vice movie billboard at night
Probably my favourite billboard of the month has to be this special installation for Inherent Vice, which started as a standard billboard, but recently has been enhanced with the addition of flickering neon signage and a moving leg mechanic, making for a real spectacle.

Be sure to check out the video of the Inherent Vice movie billboard in action along Sunset Strip to see the magic for yourself.
Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies movie billboard
This past month there were also a lot of billboards around for the latest and final installment in The Hobbit Trilogy, and these are just two of the billboard creatives to be seen. I saw it on my birthday and although I enjoyed the Middle-Earth adventure, I felt like there was a lot of padding and trying to connect this trilogy to the LOTR movies.
Hobbit Battle of the Five Armies movie billboard
If you're a fan, be sure to check out all these other movie billboards for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Night at the Museum Secret of the Tomb billboard
Another sequel on the big screens this Christmas was Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, even the presence of Robin Williams, in one of his last film performances before his death, couldn't stop this movie from being beaten by The Hobbit at the box office though.
Still Alice movie billboard
This time of year you can also guarantee there's more than a few movies hoping to score some award accolades. I've not seen Still Alice yet, which is based on Lisa Genova's 2007 novel of the same name about a psychologist diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, but I love anything Julianne Moore does, so fingers crossed she gets some well deserved recognition.
Unbroken movie billboard
Another movie which could be up for a few nominations is the Angelina Jolie directed WWII prisoner of war story, Unbroken, about the true story of Olympic runner Louis Zamperini, captured by the Japanese when his plane goes down in the Pacific Ocean.
American Sniper movie billboard
American Sniper is another movie based on true events, this time about U.S. Navy SEAL sharpshooter Chris Kyle. For me there's far too much gun crime in America, so this doesn't strike me as a terribly festive movie to go see at the cinema.
Top Five movie billboard
And Chris Rock is back on the big screen in a semi-autobiographical movie about Hollywood and his career as a standup comedian turned film star, which is also written and directed by the funny guy.

Plus be sure to stay tuned at the end of the month for my top five movies and worst five movies of 2014.
The Gambler movie remake billboard
Meanwhile Hollywood is gambling on another movie remake this Christmas, with Mark Wahlberg in The Gambler, stepping into the shoes of James Caan from the 1974 original.
Whitney TV movie billboard
Whitney Houston gets the Lifetime movie treatment in 2015, directed by Angela Bassett (who once played Tina Turner in the 1993 movie, What's Love Got to Do with It), and this billboard for the biopic about her rise to fame and turbulent relationship with her husband Bobby Brown certainly has star quality.

Music billboards
ACDC Rock or Bust album billboard Sunset Strip
Also in the world of music, AC/DC had this eye-catching special extension billboard along the rocking Sunset Strip to herald their 15th studio album, Rock or Bust.
Spotify Hozier Iggy Azalea billboard
Plus even though it's not in the good graces of Taylor Swift, it looks like the digital music service, Spotify, may be a contributing factor in the good fortunes of such music newcomers as Hozier and Iggy Azalea.
Rolling Stones David Bailey Photos Taschen Gallery billboard
And although this next billboard could also fit nicely in an arts section, David Bailey's new exhibition featuring photos of The Rolling Stones at the Taschen Gallery is certainly worth a mention.
Drais Las Vegas NYE 2015 billboard
And finally, Iggy Azalea and The Weekend will be helping Las Vegas party goers at Drai's nightclub see out the old year and welcome in the new with exclusive concerts. Let the countdown begin.

As you can see there were more than enough movie billboards to keep us all entertained this month.

If you like these outdoor ads be sure to also check out these festive billboards gracing the city skyline in December, and stick around in the next few days for all the new TV and fashion billboards also trying to catch your eye before the year ends.

What movie will you be watching this Christmas...?
