Magical new costumes and film props around L.A. at the end of 2014 and the start of 2015...

Throughout 2014 my fascination with original movie costumes and props continued (along with all those eye-catching billboards), and I just love discovering new items on display when I'm out and about. Here's the latest assortment from behind-the-scenes of Hollywoodland, just one of the many perks of living in L.A., spotted at cinema foyers and comic shops at the end of last year and the beginning of 2015.

One of my favourite costumes from last year is this fantastic 'Birdman' superhero costume from the film of the same name, in which Michael Keaton plays a conflicted, aging actor who used to be the star of a blockbuster superhero franchise (a bit of a parody of his time at Batman) and now is trying to make it on the Broadway stage.

If you love this suit designed by the legendary Albert Wolsky like I do, then be sure to take a closer look at this original Birdman movie costume which was on display at my local comic book store along Melrose Avenue before Christmas and if you're so inclined, why not compare it to Michael Keaton's Batman movie costumes from the Tim Burton movies.

Meryl Streep Into the Woods Witch movie costumes
Another wonderful discovery at the beginning of December were these original film costumes worn by Meryl Streep as the Witch in Disney's adaptation of the Into the Woods musical.

These Colleen Atwood designed outfits were photographed on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema.

Prince Charming and Cinderella movie costumes
from Into the Woods at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood

In addition, just yesterday I finally made it to see Into the Woods at the El Capitan Theatre along Hollywood Boulevard and they currently have an extensive collection of screen-used costumes worn by the fairytale characters in, like these 'Prince Charming' and 'Cinderella' outfits worn by Chris Pine and Anna Kendrick respectively.

If you're a fan of the iconic designer and the musical, be sure to check out my costumes and props blog in the days to come for even more fantastic Into the Woods film costumes on display.

Original movie props from Wild
on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks

In addition to costumes from Into the Woods, the theater also had a selection of fun film props featured in the movie too, just like these props used in Reese Witherspoon's latest cinematic adventure, Wild.

This hiking backpack prop used by the actress and the signs from the movie were snapped on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks in December too.

Original Selma movie costumes on display at ArcLight Hollywood

And finally to help see in the New Year, here's a movie costume exhibit for Selma, the Martin Luther King, Jr. biopic about the civil rights march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965.

Click through the link to check out these costumes designed by Ruth E. Carter and worn by the lead actors, David Oyelowo and Carmen Ejogo as 'Martin Luther King, Jr.' and 'Coretta Scott King', plus Oprah Winfrey's outfit from the film she also helped produce.

Hopefully the film costumes and props will keep coming in 2015 and I also think I'm overdue a visit to the NBC Universal Experience archive exhibit at Universal Studios Hollywood in the next week or two...
