Blockbuster movie, music and gaming billboards around L.A. in July 2015...

Wow, what a month it's been for Summer movie billboards in the skies of L.A. this July. Studios have been spending big to grab your attention, whether it be for their reboots, remakes, sequels, prequels, or shock, horror, original films.

Movie billboards
AntMan movie billboard
My favourite movie of the Summer has to be Marvel's Ant-Man, and he may be the smallest hero on the block, but he sure packs a mighty punch, so much so that I'm off to see him at the cinema for a second time tonight.

If you like this special extension billboard with Paul Rudd dodging bullets on the back of a flying ant, be sure to also check out this fun giant-sized light-switch billboard for Ant-Man along the Sunset Strip.
Fantastic 4 movie remake billboard
Meanwhile the next superhero movie is one I have reservations about, the rebooted of the Fantastic 4 movie. No longer under creative control of Marvel Studios, Fox owns the rights to the fabulous foursome and it look like their taking them down a darker path than Marvel's first family should travel.

In my opinion the FF movie should be fun-packed and adventurous, not some tortured, gloomy outing, but I'll reserve final judgement until I've seen this new movie reboot.
Human Torch Fantastic 4 billboard
This Human Torch special extension is pretty cool though, with Michael B. Jordan melting his way through the billboard hoarding, and if you like this be sure to check out the special Thing billboard for the Fantastic 4 movie remake too.
Man from UNCLE movie billboard
Meanwhile a 60s TV series getting the big screen reboot treatment is the espionage drama The Man from U.N.C.L.E., with Armie Hammer and Henry Cavill playing the Russian and American spies forced to work together to stop a diabolical nuclear plot.
Minions movie billboard
Minions, the Despicable Me animated movie prequel, has done exceptionally well at the box office worldwide ($655 million to date), but if Universal Studios activity in the skies of L.A. are anything to go on, then they spent a lot of money promoting this movie.
Special Minions movie billboard installation
It certainly looks like they had fun coming up with all the out-of-home activity for the movie though, so be sure to also check out all the other Minions billboards and their special Cinerama Dome installation.
Donkey Kong Pixels extension billboard
Another Summer movie which spent big to grab your attention was Pixels The Movie, a comedy about an alien invasion using iconic video game characters.
Centipede Pixels The Movie billboard
Critically the film hasn't been well received, but it's been very entertaining to see these fun billboards for classic arcade games Donkey Kong, Pac-Man and Centipede in the skies of L.A. these past weeks.
Giant Mission Impossible Rogue Nation billboard
Another movie with lots of different ad creatives turning heads this month is the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible film franchise.
Mission Impossible Rogue Nation billboard
Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation has filled the streets with Tom Cruise, explosions and death-defying stunts to drum up interest in this latest film based on the television series which originally ran in the 1960s and 1970s.

If you're a fan, be sure to check out all the various Mission: Impossible movie billboards filling the city skyline now, and in the past.

There are plenty of movies trying to tickle your funny bone this Summer and Amy Schumer's Trainwreck is bringing a much needed dose of originality and authenticity this July.
Vacation movie billboard
Whereas Vacation is the rebooted version of the National Lampoon's Vacation movie franchise from the 1980s, with Ed Helms as a grown-up 'Rusty Griswold' taking his family on a road trip to Wally World before it closes.
Ricki and the Flash movie billboard
Meanwhile Meryl Streep continues to prove that she's a chameleon when it comes to cinematic roles, whether it be a nun, a witch, a politician, a cook, and now a rocker in Ricki and the Flash.
Paper Towns movie billboard
And this weekend the second cinematic adaptation of John Green's books hit the big screen with the coming-of-age tale, Paper Towns.
Southpaw movie billboard
Plus Jake Gyllenhaal stars in the boxing drama, Southpaw, basically The Champ for a new generation of movie goers.
Straight Outta Compton movie billboard
Meanwhile Straight Outta Compton steps back in time with the hip-hop group NWA (including Ice Cube and Dr. Dre) and their emergence onto the music scene in the mid-80s with their unique perspective of life in the hood coming from the streets of Compton, California.
Giant 7 Days in Hell TV movie billboard
From true stories to comedy on the tennis court, and Andy Samberg and Kit Harington play tennis pros battling in 7 Days in Hell at Wimbledon.
Tig documentary film billboard
And if you're feeling bad about your life, then maybe you should watch the documentary film Tig. Stand-up comedian Tig Notaro suffered a run a really bad luck - stomach infections, her mother dying and suffering from breast cancer (resulting in a double mastectomy), but she turned her experiences into an iconic gig at the L.A. comedy club, Largo, and kept on living her life.
What happened Miss Simone film billboard
And Netflix had another documentary this month explores the life and times of legendary soul singer, Nina Simone.
