New sci-fi, fantasy and comedy film costumes and props on display in L.A...

With all the horrors in the world it's nice to escape into worlds of make believe at times, be it outer space, fantastical lands of giants or New York's sewers. Even better, sometimes a comedy on the big screen is the tonic you need to escape life's realities. Here's a look at some of the movie costumes and props spied on display at cinemas around L.A. in recent weeks.

First up is a fab exhibit of film costumes worn by Idris Elba and Chris Pine in Star Trek: Beyond spotted at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema.

Fans of the TV turned film franchise will also love these cool Star Trek: Beyond movie billboards currently filling the skies of L.A. at the moment.

Edina Monsoon Absolutely Fabulous Movie costume
Even though it's already opened in the U.K., the movie version of Absolutely Fabulous has yet to open in the U.S., so to promote the comedy about 'Pasty and Eddie', they have one of Jennifer Saunder's outlandish outfits on display at ArcLight Hollywood at the moment.

Screen-used props from Disney's The BFG
on display at ArcLight Hollywood

Steven Spielberg and Disney's live-action version of The BFG didn't seem to capture audiences imaginations as much as I thought it would this Summer, but it was still cool to see all these fun props from the film at ArcLight Hollywood and Sherman Oaks.

And finally, also over at the Sherman Oaks venue they had this full-size statue of 'Michelangelo' from the latest Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. They also had a life-size Leonardo Ninja Turtle statue in Hollywood earlier this Summer too.

In August I'm looking forward to Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum's Art of Television Costume Design exhibition and hope that more costume and prop exhibits will pop up around L.A. over the Summer months.

Bye for now...
