Film and music billboards gracing the L.A. skyline in April 2016...

Not only was there an abundance of TV, fashion and lifestyle billboards filling L.A.'s streets and skies this month, but there was also a smattering of film, music and video game billboards vying for your attention.

Movie billboards
Huntsman Winters War movie billboard
The Huntsman: Winter's War may have flopped at the box office, but this ad creative was truly captivating, splitting the beautiful faces of Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt down the middle to create this striking fairytale queen visual.
Captain America Civil War movie billboard
One film expected to smash box office records is the new Captain America: Civil War (which really should be Avengers 3 with all the characters involved). The Sentinel of Liberty and 'Iron Man' go head-to-head and ask their friends and allies to choose sides in this new Marvel movie, which I'm super excited for.
Captain America Civil War movie billboards
The film has certainly gone all out to capture your attention in the skies of Los Angeles, with giant-sized ads along the Sunset Strip and a whole installation of eight billboards at the busy intersection of Venice and La Cienega Boulevards.

If you're a fan, be sure to check out all these Captain America: Civil War movie billboards around town this April.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of Shadows billboard
Another comic book sequel in the skies this month was for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the follow-up to the 2014 reboot of the film franchise.
Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows Donatello billboard
If you're a fan of the 'heroes in a half shell', make sure you also check out this life-size Leonardo Ninja Turtle on display at ArcLight Hollywood this month. Cowabunga, dude!

From reptiles to avians, and this Summer The Angry Birds are leaping from smartphone games to action on the big screen in an all new animated adventure.
Criminal movie billboard

Jungle Book tiger billboard
And from criminals to the villain of Disney's live-action version of The Jungle Book, and 'Shere Khan' the deadly Bengal tiger was stalking the city skies this month.
Nice Guys movie billboard
Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling were going retro for their new 70s crime mystery buddy movie and this vibrant cut-out special extension billboard really stood out this month.
Money Monster movie billboard
Another ad creative which really caught my eye was this billboard with its colourful test screen design for new thriller Money Monster,.
Mothers Day movie billboard
Whereas the other film starring Julia Roberts advertised this month, Mother's Day, had a very pedestrian design (and quite possibly the worst wig I've seen the actress wear in a movie).
Papa Hemingway in Cuba film billboard
Meanwhile with diplomatic relations improved between the U.S. and Cuba again this Papa: Hemingway in Cuba movie billboard seemed quite timely.
Dance Camp YouTube Red movie billboard
New paid subscription service YouTube Red continued to promote its original movies, like Dance Camp, around the streets of L.A. this month.
Serial Dater Buddha Jones agency billboard
And this faux Serial Dater movie billboard, which I believe it for creative agency Buddha Jones, made me smile along Highland Avenue in April.

Music billboards
Music industry alive again billboard
In the world of music, the Mind of a Genius Music Group, who represent artists like Gallant, They and Zhu, had this bold and simple billboard proclaiming 'The music industry is alive again' along the infamous rock 'n' roll Sunset Strip.
Gareth Emery 100 reasons to live album billboard
Meanwhile this '100 reasons to live' billboard for Gareth Emery's new dance album really stood out further east along the Strip.
Guns N Roses teaser billboard
Guns N' Roses were teasing us with this logo billboard earlier this month. At first I thought it was for the Coachella Festival like their previous ads, but it appears this was not the case.
Guns N Roses Dodger Stadium concert 2016 billboard
It was actually for their new concert tour, including their August show at Dodger Stadium, reuniting the rockers after all these years. Let's hope they play nice and show up on the day.
Weezer Panic at the Disco Tour 2016 billboard
Two other bands on tour together this Summer, and apparently selling out, are Weezer and Panic! at the Disco.
Chainsmokers Jewel Nightclub Vegas billboard
Meanwhile for the opening weekend of Aria's new Jewel Nightclub, The Chainsmokers are headlining at the end of May.
Lionel Richie Vegas Hits billboard
And also Lionel Richie was dancing in the skies of the Sunset Strip and taking his greatest hits on the road in Las Vegas.

Gaming billboards
Doom video game billboard
Plus in the world of gaming, the video game franchise DOOM was being rebooted for a new generation with these striking billboards.

Flashback to the past and check out these movie and music billboards from this time last year, and come back again next month for more snapshots of the billboards gracing the streets and skies of the City of Angels.

See you all soon...

TV billboards
Giant Veep season 5 Maybe billboard
First up is this hilarious giant season four 'Maybe!' billboard for Veep which parodies President Obama's 2008 'Hope' election campaign, it's perfect for the political satire, especially with all the presidential primaries currently going on around the country.

Night Manager miniseries billboard
And AMC's mini-series adaptation of John Le Carré's story, The Night Manager, had this cool gun-shaped collage ad creative (not that I'm a lover of guns, but it helps to covey the arms dealer premise of the thriller).

Mr Pickles season 2 billboard
Adult Swim was supporting the second season of its graphic animated comedy, Mr. Pickles, with this bloody canine creative.
Curious George Hulu billboard
And the streaming service Hulu was trying to make its subscription fee more family-friendly by adding all nine seasons of the Curious George cartoon series.
Patton Oswalt Talking for Clapping netflix billboard
Netflix was promoting comedian Patton Oswalt's comedy special, Talking for clapping, and this was before the sad death of his wife, Michelle McNamara, in her sleep this month. My heart goes out to him and his family as I occasionally see him at my local comic book store.
