Spooky Halloween, drinks and other lifestyle billboards haunting L.A.'s skies in October 2016...

One of the things I love about photographing the ever-changing onslaught of billboards that grace L.A.'s skyline are the seasonal outdoor ads that appear at certain times of the year like at Halloween. Here's a selection of some of the spooky Halloween-themed billboards haunting the city streets and skies this October 2016.

Tower of Terror Disney Halloween billboard
First up is this eye-catching Tower of Terror billboard for Disney California Adventure's Twilight Zone-themed attraction which is soon to disappear from the park in the New Year, to be replaced by a new Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy ride.
Escape Psycho Circus billboard
There's always lots of events and interactive experiences to enjoy at Halloween, and this creepy Escape: Psycho Circus billboard was advertising San Bernardino's unique dance music and freakshow performance festival.
Los Angeles Haunted Hayride 2016 billboard
If scary mazes and creepy thrills are your thing this time of year, the annual Los Angeles Haunted Hayride is always in the sky with its ads to tempt you to the old abandoned zoo in Griffith Park.

Another Halloween attraction to entertain thrill seekers every year is the Queen Mary's Dark Harbor festivities in Long Beach.

Plus if scary roller coasters are what you wanted along with costumed delights, then Six Flags Fright Fest was the amusement park to visit, especially with its new Suicide Squad experience.

This month I also loved these simple, bold and cleverly designed billboards for the 99c store's Halloween offering.

The spider and Jack O'Lantern are made up of all the things you can buy to make your home look more frightful and give your Halloween costumes that edge your were looking for.

Fanta Wickedly delicious Halloween billboard
In addition to all the theme park attractions, soda drink brands like Fanta were having wicked fun with their can designs to get in the Halloween spirit.
Bacardi We are the night bats billboard
And Bacardi was back in the skies with their 'We are the night' ad campaign and using their bat logo to great effect for the spooky party season.

Plus this Day of the Dead themed wall mural ad for Mexican beer, Estrella Jalisco, was perfect for this time of year.

Speaking of cool brews, and Coors Light also had this fun special extension can billboard to catch passersby eyes this October.

Plus over in the heart of Hollywood Blue Moon beer was going super-sized to show off its artfully brewed offering with this bold painted wallscape (one of the only hand-painted billboard locations left in L.A.).

Absolut Elyx Vodka was raising a glass, or a limited edition copper cocktail pineapple, to luxury this month along the Sunset Strip.

The Swedish vodka is certainly one way to toast the impending holiday season, which Halloween always seems to kick off.

And speaking of vodka and Beluga Vodka was advertising in a big way along the Sunset Strip.  I've tried not to promote Russian vodka in recent years due to their human rights violations and their treatment of their LGBT citizens.

So if you want to protest Putin's invasions of other countries and attempts to undermine the U.S. presidential election, hit them where it hurts and don't support Russian imports, boycott all Russian products like vodka.

White Girl Wine was also promoting it's new sparkling rosé in a can over in Hollywood in October, but it's an interesting strategy, insulting your local audience.
7 Eleven Freedom to choose Election cup billboard
The skies have been full of patriotic symbols and iconography in the world of movies and television advertising of late, but this election season has also inspired the likes of 7-Eleven with this clever themed political party coffee cup ad creative.

In the world of food, Bibigo Fresh Korean Kitchen was showing off its cuisine with this eye-catching special extension billboard.

Plus this Cater2.me billboard was trying to compete in the food delivery service market for your office lunchtime eats.

Ben & Jerry's were also back in the city skyline this month to tempt passersby with their yummy ice-cream varieties and tongue-in-cheek illustrated ad creatives.

In the world of travel, Air France was flying high in the skies of the Sunset Strip with this cool ad creative towering over westbound traffic.

And Virgin America was back with another bold outdoor ad campaign putting its competitors to shame with its fun approach and range of services.

These vibrant billboards in different formats in Virgin's corporate colours really stand out in a crowded skyline.
Kids free October San Diego Zoo billboard
Meanwhile if you couldn't afford to fly away somewhere this October, the San Diego Zoo was offering free entry for kids this month to encourage visitors.

Snapchat, or Snap Inc., were still having fun around the city this month, changing their ghost logo for a mass of eyeballs.

Chevrolet small cars lifes potholes billboard
Meanwhile Chevrolet was helping car drivers get through life's potholes with this witty ad creative.
Metromile insurance billboard
Plus Metromile was offering a new type of insurance for those who don't drive that far or so often, with a pay-per-mile option.

These fun illustrated billboards with their bold blue colour and simplicity certainly stood out this month.

We are all Kings ice hockey billboard
And you could tell things were getting sporty again, with lots of ads in the skies for L.A. Kings ice hockey team.

Grindr was also back in the West Hollywood skyline with another ad creative, trying to prove they were more than just a hookup app, but also supported LGBT people around the world.
Pornographers Say vote No on Prop 60 billboard
And not only is it time to vote for a new President, but there are so many propositions on the ballot at this time of year too. Pornography is big business in California and Prop 60 would require sex performers in films to wear condoms during penetrative sex, but those who make the films don't want this law to pass.

And finally, this Astronaut and VW minivan on the moon billboard has also graced the Sofitel Hotel's walls recently, but it also reappeared on the side of Mr. C Hotel along Pico Boulevard this month too.

The funny thing about seasonal billboards is that whether it's Halloween, Easter or Christmas, the minute the day has passed, the ads become instantly outdated in the city skyline and become very tired if they start to linger. Let's hope none of these Halloween-themed ones do that.

Fresh new TV show billboards in the skies of L.A. in October 2016...

This month there were so many TV show billboard gracing L.A.'s skyline that I had to split them into two categories, returning favourite TV show billboards and new series making their debut in the city skies. Here's a collection of the rookie shows trying to turns heads and attract an audience this October 2016.

Giant Westworld series premiere billboard
First up is this eye-catching giant-sized 'Vitruvian Woman' logo ad creative for HBO's captivating A.I. Western drama, Westworld.
Giant Insecure series premiere billboard
Next is this super-sized pink billboard for Issa Rae's new HBO comedy from a black woman's perspective, Insecure.
Giant Divorce series premiere billboard
Another massive billboard turning heads this month towering over the Sunset Strip is for Sarah Jessica Parker and Thomas Haden Church's new comedy, Divorce, whose marriage looks like it's going off the rails in this ad creative.
Giant Jon Glaser Loves Gear sereis premiere billboard
TruTV's Jon Glaser Loves Gear was also making its series debut in a big way with this adventurous ad creative on the side of West Hollywood's Andaz Hotel.
Rocky Horror Picture Show TV remake billboard
Where other channels are trying new things, this month Fox tried to remake The Rocky Horror Picture Show for the small screen with their Halloween TV event starring Laverne Cox. Some cult classics are better left alone I think.
Son of Zorn True X billboard
One Fox show which did show some originality this season was Son of Zorn, which merged animation and live-action to comic effect, and now you can watch it on demand too.

Another fox show which tried something different this Fall season was Pitch, a sports drama the first female pitcher in Major League baseball.
Easy series premiere Netflix billboard
With the new sex and romance anthology series, Easy, writer and director Joe Swanberg explored eight different relationship tales in Chicago.
Haters Back Off series premiere billboard
Plus the streaming service also brought YouTube sensation 'Miranda Sings' to the small screen with its new original series Haters Back Off, a comedy about a talentless, overconfident teenager desperate to be famous.
Berlin Station series premiere billboard
Meanwhile Epix is another channel who wanted to get in on the original scripted series movement, with its two new shows Berlin Station and Graves.

The first is a spy thriller starring The Hobbit's Richard Armitage as a CIA agent who arrives with a clandestine mission at the CIA foreign station in Berlin, Germany.

The next stars Nick Nolte as an ex-President in the political comedy, Graves, in which the former POTUS realizes twenty years later that his policies weren't that great and that his First Lady wife has political ambitions of her own. Sound familiar this election season?
Shooter series launch billboard
Another patriotic Stars and Stripes ad creative filling the sky this month was for the delayed movie spin-off Shooter, starring Ryan Phillippe. The series was understandably postponed by the network due to all the ambush-like police sniper deaths earlier this Summer.

Meanwhile the USA Network was also exploring the realm of shared dreams in its new sci-fi series Falling Water, and this ad creative with dripping water like a needle in an eye certainly captured attention.

Speaking of eyes, and Hulu's new scripted drama Chance sees the return of Hugh Laurie to the doctor's chair, this time as a neuro-psychiatrist who gets involved with his split personality patient (played by Gretchen Mol).
Goliath series premiere billboard
Plus competitor streaming service Amazon was also debuting its new legal drama, Goliath, about Billy Bob Thornton's washed up lawyer who takes on his old giant law firm to redeem himself.
Good Girls Revolt series premiere billboard
Also on Amazon we were taking a step back in time to the 60s for new drama, Good Girls Revolt, about female newsroom researchers striving for equality in a male dominated world of journalism.
Mars series premiere billboard
From the past to the future, and the National Geographic Channel was taking a trip to Mars with its latest billboard.
Dirk Gently Holistic Detective Agency billboard
Another TV series getting a remake this season was Douglas Adams quirky characters from Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency with this eye-catching red billboard.
Pure Genius series premiere billboard
CBS was trying to channel Apple co-founder Steve Jobs for its new medical tech drama Pure Genius this month.

And it was also debuting more new sitcoms with familiar names, like former Friends star Matt LeBlanc for its new stay-at-home dad comedy, Man with a Plan.

Whilst Joel McHale was a renowned explorer reporter grounded to a desk job in the changing world of publishing and forced to manage a team of millennials for a website in The Great Indoors.
Hart of the City series premiere billboard
In the world of stand-up comedy, Kevin Hart was traveling around America in new series Hart of the City to discover fresh new stand-up talent.
Stan Against Evil series premiere billboard
In the new IFC comedy, Stan Against Evil, John C. McGinley's former sheriff must team with the New England town's new female sheriff to stave off a plague of demons haunting the town built on the site of a 17th century witch burning.
People of Earth series premiere billboard
And from demons to extraterrestrials, and TBS has a new comedy about an alien abductee support group called People of Earth, accompanied by this fun ad creative.
Dream Corp LLC While you slept anal-yzed dreams billboard
Further along the Sunset Strip, Adult Swim continues to be slightly off-center with this oddball billboard for new comedy Dream Corp LLC.
Broke YouTube Red series billboard
This month online content provider YouTube Red continued to promote its new original shows, like with this billboard for Broke, a comedy about there post-grads trying to make ends meet in a new city pursuing their dreams.

Plus the stars of top YouTube talk show Good Mythical Morning get their own fun billboards in Hollywood for their new scripted comedy and music series, Rhett & Link's Buddy System.
