Head-turning TV billboards filling L.A.'s sunny skies in July 2017...

Even in the summertime the skies of L.A. are crammed with eye-catching TV show billboards, trying to tempt you to give up your leisure time to watch on broadcast television or binge-watch on some streaming platform. Some even use cool gimmicks like neon embellishments and cut-out extensions to grab your attention, so I hope you enjoy this cool collection of TV billboards standing out in L.A.'s skies this July.

GLOW launch neon sign billboard installation
First up is this neon sign billboard along the Sunset Strip for Netflix's 1980s set women's wrestling comedy, GLOW, following the fictional lives of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling.

If you like this nighttime out-of-home gimmick, you may also like these Atomic Blonde movie billboards which also sport neon embellishments and are gracing L.A.'s streets this summer.

Not content with special neon billboard installation, the new series also had these cool GLOW special extension billboards getting ready to rumble on opposite sides of the Sunset Strip above the Whisky A Go-Go club to draw passersby in.
Giant Britney Spears Nineties billboard
From the Eighties to The Nineties, and Britney Spears was getting super-sized this month to entice Los Angelenos to check out the latest in CNN's documentary series focusing on different decades in U.S. pop culture and historical events.

Funny lady Issa Rae was also looming large over the Sunset Strip this month with this summery swimming pool ad creative to promote the sophomore season of her HBO comedy, Insecure.
Jessica Biel Sinner series billboard
Jessica Biel was also getting wet on a super-sized scale this month for her new limited series The Sinner, a whydunit rather than a whodunit, after she brutally kills someone in front of her family and witnesses.
Giant Will series premiere billboard
Meanwhile TNT was trying to tempt viewers to check out their new summertime series, Will, which explored the unknown life of playwright William Shakespeare in 16th century London.
Last Tycoon series premiere billboard
Amazon's new period drama The Last Tycoon with Matt Bomer was also receiving the giant-sized treatment this July for the series about a wunderkind producer in 1930s golden age of Hollywood.
People of Earth season 2 billboard
In the world of comedy, alien abduction sitcom People of Earth was back for a second season with this hilarious homage to E.T.
Bold Type series premiere billboard
Freeform's new Cosmopolitan magazine-inspired comedy-drama, The Bold Type, was also standing out in L.A.'s July skies.
Friends From College series premiere billboard
Whilst Netflix was trying to get subscribers excited for Friends from College with Keegan-Michael Key, Fred Savage, Cobie Smulders and more, as forty-something Harvard graduates.
Ozark series premiere billboard
Also on the streaming service, Ozark was the latest drama starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, about a family man who gets involved in money laundering for a Mexican drug cartel.

1995's Get Shorty movie was getting the small screen treatment in the skies this month with a new Epix scripted series starring Chris O'Dowd and Ray Romano, about a mobster in Hollywood.

And Hollywood's 'fixer', Ray Donovan, was back for a fifth season this month, although things are not looking all that great for Liev Schreiber's character.

Meanwhile James Van Der Beek is starring in Viceland's new mockumentary series about a superstar DJ in What Would Diplo Do?
Room 104 series premiere billboard
The Duplass Brothers were bringing a new anthology series to the small screen on HBO with Room 104, set in a typical American motel room telling a variety of different tales, with different casts, directors and genres.
Ballers season 3 billboard
Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was also back in the skies for the third season of his HBO dramedy about a pro footballer turned financial advisor in Ballers.

And speaking of sports, Netflix was back with a sophomore season of Last Chance U, a documentary  series about upcoming college football stars.

And whilst the Idiot-in-Chief may have been embarrassing himself at the Boy Scout Jamboree (or was it a Hitler Youth rally?) this month, Adam Conover was embracing the merit badge culture for his sophomore season of Adam Ruins Everything.

Plus another TruTV show was getting the special extension cut-out billboard treatment this July, as Andrea Savage's I'm Sorry comedy series made its debut.

After years of success with HBO's raunchy vampire drama True Blood, Charlaine Harris' was hoping lighting struck twice with NBC's adaptation of her supernatural book series, Midnight, Texas.

And speaking of book adaptations, Stephen King's hard-boiled detective series Mr. Mercedes is heading to the small screen this August courtesy of the Audience channel.
Strain final season 4 billboard
FX's summer horror series, The Strain, was gracing the skies this month for its fourth and final season as the vampiric Strigoi unleash an apocalyptic hell on Earth.

Plus flashing back to the past, FX was also exploring how crack cocaine began with its new summer drama series Snowfall.

Meanwhile ABC was trying to find the next big Boy Band this summer with Rita Ora hosting the reality singing contest.

And this month BBC America was giving Britain's popular auto series an Americanised makeover with Top Gear America, starring actor William Fitchner, drag racer Antron Brown and motoring journalist Tom "Wookie" Ford.

Rob Lowe was returning to the small screen to explore the paranormal with his sons in the new A&E reality series The Lowe Files.
Planet of Apps Apple Music series billboard
Plus Apple Music was the latest streaming platform to enter the world of original content with the new Shark Tank-like TV idea for apps, Planet of the Apps, with a whole host of celebrity judges including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Alba and Will.i.am.
Wild N Out season 9 billboard
Over on MTV, Nick Cannon was back with some improvisational comedy with a hip-hop flavour with the ninth season of Wild 'N Out.

Meanwhile this July comedian James Davis was exploring cultural appropriation with this new Comedy Central series, Hood Adjacent.

And speaking of humour, Netflix was showing off its latest funny people with a new series called The Standups featuring the one-night-only comedic talents of Nikki Glaser, Nate Bargatze, Beth Stelling, Deon Cole, Fortune Feimster and Dan Soder.

Plus people were seeing double with this billboard for Ari Shaffir's stand-up special, Double Negative.
Rick and Morty season 3 billboard
In the world of adult animation, Rick and Morty were making their return for a third season on Adult Swim this month with this vibrant special extension cut-out for the misadventures of the mad scientist grandpa and his gullible grandson. 
Hey LA local sports news Hulu billboard
This month Hulu continued to make their presence known in the world of subscription streaming with new live local sports and news offerings.
YouTube Live TV Voice billboard
And Google continued to push their YouTube live TV offering for the smartphone mobile generation with ads like these.

Emmy consideration billboards
Mom 2017 Emmy FYC Planned Parenthood billboard
This month the Emmy Award nominations were announced, but before they were I did spot this supercool Emmy consideration billboard for the CBS sitcom Mom at Warner Bros. Studios. This year following the horrific actions of the current administration and the GOP to try and defund Planned Parenthood, the show (now in its fourth season) donated its Emmy campaign money, a whopping $250,000 to the organisation which offers women's health services like contraception, sexual health and cancer screening.

In today's current political climate I thought it was important to share this vibrant billboard and say bravo to the show, especially as Allison Janney received an Emmy nomination for her role.

This month I also spotted another Emmy consideration billboard for Hulu's Margaret Atwood adaptation, The Handmaid's Tale, which garnered a much deserved total of eleven Primetime Emmys for the dystopian drama.

Following the announcements of the Emmy nominations on July 13, 2017, some studios kicked off their second stage campaigns like Amazon for their transgender dramedy, Transparent, with four Primetime Emmy nods for their third season.

Plus alternate history drama, The Man in the High Castle, with three Emmy nominations for its second season.

And FX was also getting in on the action by supporting its Donald Glover hip-hop comedy, Atlanta, which earned six nominations.

As you can see there's been no rest for the wicked in the world of TV this July.
