July 2017's blockbuster movie and music billboards in L.A.'s summer skies...

This month the streets and skies have been filled with superheroes, spies, apes, soldiers, singers, emojis and much more besides. Here's a cool collection of film and music billboards turning heads in L.A.'s skyline this July 2017.

Movie billboards
Spiderman Homecoming movie billboard
First up is this spectacular special extension cut-out for Spider-man's latest movie, which mirrors a key scene in the film on the Staten Island Ferry.

If you like these supercool ad creatives, make sure you also check out the other Spider-man: Homecoming movie billboards filling the skies this month.
Atomic Blonde neon sign billboard installation
Next up is another killer creative, this time for Charlize Theron's new spy thriller, Atomic Blonde.

I'm loving all these neon sign embellishments, and if you like this advertising gimmick, make sure you check out all these other neon sign billboard examples from around L.A. in recent years.
Valerian City of a Thousand Planets movie billboard
Another clever trick from the out-of-home pantheon is this split ad creative on either side of La Cienega Boulevard for new sci-fi movie, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, based on the French comic series.

If you think these interconnecting billboards are cool, you'll also love these Thor hammer toss billboards and these Divergent: Insurgent movie billboards in the same location in years past.
War for Planet of Apes movie billboard
I wasn't a huge fan of the second Planet of the Apes reboot installment, but I really enjoyed the third cinematic outing with 'Caesar' and his plucky band of intelligent apes.
War for Planet Apes movie billboard
If you're fan, make sure you check out all these other War for the Planet of the Apes movie billboards too.
Dunkirk movie billboard
Christopher Nolan's latest summer blockbuster is based on the true story of the rescue of over 338,000 soldiers from Dunkirk, France during the early days of WWII.
Dunkirk movie billboard
I'm looking forward to seeing the movie, but in the meantime you can check out all these other Dunkirk movie billboards, and there were more than a few of them this month bombarding the city skies.
Dark Tower movie billboard
Stephen King's The Dark Tower fantasy book series finally gets adapted for the big screen this summer with Idris Elba as the Gunslinger 'Roland Deschain' and Matthew McConaughey as the evil 'Man in Black'.

I can't wait to see this cinematic adaptation, especially as I felt the eight books had a truly satisfying ending, which I find doesn't always happen with book series.
Detroit movie billboard
The forthcoming movie from Kathryn Bigelow will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Detroit, Michigan's 12th Street Riot in 1967, shining the light on more of America's overlooked black history.
Annabelle Creation movie billboard
Meanwhile in the world of horror, the possessed doll from The Conjuring will get her own prequel sequel with Annabelle: Creation with this clever, creepy special extension cut-out billboard.
Wish Upon movie billboard
Plus for more summer scares this month, horror film Wish Upon was also lining the streets of L.A.

Halle Berry was a vision in vinyl this month for her new thriller, Kidnap, as a mother who'll stop at nothing to rescue her son.

Plus Lily Collins was fading away for her Netflix comedy drama about anorexia, To the Bone.
Girls Trip movie billboard
But sometimes girls just want to have fun and this month Regina Hall, Tiffany Haddish, Jada Pinkett Smith and Queen Latifah were starring in a raunchy R-Rated comedy about sisterhood and a Girls Trip to New Orleans.
Emoji Movie Poop billboard
Speaking of funny and The Emoji Movie was flooding the skies with another wave of creatives for the new animated comedy about the hidden world within your smartphone.
Emoji Movie Steven billboard

Nobody Speak Trials Free Press documentary billboard
Meanwhile Netflix was questioning the power of dollars over free speech for its new documentary about the Gawker and Hulk Hogan lawsuit, Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press.
Risk documentary billboard
Showtime was debuting its documentary film Risk about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange (although we could have all done without him helping the Russians rig the U.S. Presidential Election).
Inconvenient Sequel Truth to Power billboard
Plus An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power was following up the acclaimed 2006 documentary about the dangers of global warming in this era of science deniers.

Music billboards
Sean Combs Cant Wont stop Apple Music billboard
In the world of music, Apple Music was starting to pump out original content like other streaming service platforms with the behind-the-scenes documentary, Can't Stop Won't Stop: A Bad Boy Story.
Zedd Liam Payne Get low Spotify billboard
Meanwhile music streaming platform Spotify was really pumping some serious money into outdoor advertising this month, with giant-sized billboards along the Sunset Strip for Zedd and Liam Payne's new collaboration, Get Low.
When people cant travel music will Spotify billboard
Spotify was also taking a stand against this administration's hateful and discriminatory travel ban policies with the series I'm with the banned (which is a nice play on words for the music industry).
Lany album Spotify billboard
Spotify was also constantly changing its multiple billboard sites around L.A., every week or fortnight, like with this ad creative for Lany's debut album.
Kacy Hill Spotify billboard
Plus Kacy Hill was in the spotlight along the Sunset Strip for her new album Like a Woman.
HAIM something to tell you Spotify billboard
And the three sisters that make up the band HAIM were promoting their new album, Something to Tell You.
Romeo Santos Spotify billboard
Latin music singer Romeo Santos was also showcasing his new album, Golden, available to stream on Spotify.
Calvin Harris Funk Wav Bounces Spotify billboard
And finally, superstar DJ Calvin Harris was dropping his latest album, Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1, this month.

As you can see, this July the Hollywood Hills have been alive with the sound of music and popcorn blockbusters.

Be sure to compare this collection to last July's movie and music billboards, and stay tuned in the coming days for this summer's TV and fashion billboards competing for attention with all these other ad creatives.
