Double rainbows and thunder clouds over West Hollywood...

It was inevitable really. After the hottest day in recorded history in L.A. on Monday, September 26, 2010, a staggering 113 degrees in Downtown Los Angeles, it's no surprise that we'd have some storms on the horizon as an encore.
Thunder clouds over West Hollywood
Last night double rainbows arced over West Hollywood and dramatic storm clouds rolled in.
Rainbow and thunder clouds
Heavy spots of rain fell as I was out walking Cooper and in the distance I heard the roll of thunder and thought I glimpsed a flash or two of lightning.
Thunder sky West Hollywood
Above our condo was the most amazing sky of dusky orange thunder clouds, that looked pregnant with rain (which never fell in our neighbourhood).
Double rainbow
It was hard to capture the double rainbow on camera, but it was a cool sight to behold.

Even living in the city, or maybe more so, nature truly can be spectacular at times.

You don't always need cars, computers, iPhones or other technology, just look to the skies to be amazed.

I wish I could say the storm clouds cleared the air and the temperature has fallen, but it's still up in the 80's today.

Not that I should be complaining at the end of September, when the weather back home in the U.K. is cold, wet and miserable, but sunny days and cool breezes would be nice...

September's coolest fashion and lifestyle billboards around L.A...

Just where did September go? Luckily I managed to capture a few of the sights around Los Angeles this month, including this cool collection of fashion and lifestyle billboards.

Fashion Billboards
Levi's Asses not equal billboard
I'm really loving Levi's new fun, youthful and colourful ad campaign for their new Curve ID jeans for women.
Levi's Curve ID jeans bilboard
I'm obviously not exactly target market, but that doesn't stop me finding them humorous and appealing.
Levi's Curve ID jeans Donna billboard
There's also a whole raft of other jeans brands trying to grab passersby attention, like this denim heavy Lucky Brand Jeans creative.
Lucky Brand Jeans billboard
Robins Jeans opt to promote their unique logo as a point of difference, but it's not as good as their angel billboard creative I spotted the other day.
Robins Jeans billboard
Joe's Jeans chooses to stand out from the crowd with this scantly clad model on a desert swing-set to get your attention.
Joes Jeans swing fashion billboard
Whilst DKNY Jeans goes for a look that would work really well in the wintery metropolis of New York, but feels somewhat overdressed in the city which has just experienced its hottest day in living memory at the end of September (113 degrees fahrenheit).
DKNY Jeans Fall 2010 billboard
Here's Zoe Saldana, of Star Trek, The Losers and Avatar fame, looking slightly cooler in her sexy billboard ad for Calvin Klein Envy underwear along Sunset Boulevard.

Speaking of the appropriately named Sunset Strip, here's another racy Sam Edelman shoe billboard to get pulses racing for their Lorissa studded pumps.

Meanwhile these Gucci models look much more covered up and stylish in this luxurious and golden creative for Autumn.
Gucci Fall 2010 fashion billboard
Emporio Armani also has a great Autumn campaign this month, including this wintery white ad, plus two other fashion billboards you can see at Daily Billboard.

Of course, no fashion story is complete without the perfect accessories, so enjoy this simply stylish Tiffany clutch bag billboard.

Drinks Billboards
Mondrian Belvedere Vodka billboard
Was it really back in June that I was highlighting the Vodka War around L.A.? Maybe Belvedere Vodka was listening (or reading my blog at least) as this huge billboard on the side of the swanky Mondrian Hotel now graces the busy Sunset Strip.
Newcastle Brown Dry Heat billboard
I love when brands use humour to sell their products and Newcastle Brown's 'Lighter side of dark' campaign is no exception.
Nasturo Azzuro billboard
I also liked this refined, striking billboard for Nastro Azzurro beer which caught my eye this month.
Maker's Mark bottle billboard
Maker's Mark also continued to produce witty and stand out billboards in September.
Fuze drink billboard
And finally for beverages, we have a new non-alcoholic drink, 'Fuze', which certainly has a bright and colourful billboard, but at the same time looks like it's jam-packed with artificial flavours.

Travel Billboards
Mandalay Bay beach billboardThis billboard for the Mandalay Bay resort and casino in Las Vegas caught my eye for its 'From Here to Eternity' quality, made famous by Burt lancaster and Deborah Kerr. It was a shame the billboard was above a MacDonalds drive-in which kind of spoiled the moment.

Performing Arts Billboards
LA Phil 2010 billboard
You can always tell when the Hollywood Bowl season is winding down when you see these billboards for the L.A. Philharmonic Orchestra around town. They are colourful and lively though and go some way to dispel the stuffy image of orchestral concerts.

Restaurant Billboards
Chipotle ingredients are better billboard
And finally for this selection of billboards is this incredibly simple and clever billboard for Chipotle Mexican Grill. It's a really engaging advertisement without resorting to being shocking, loud or in-your-face and best of all it made me smile.

If you love these billboards, you can find even more great examples at Daily Billboard every day.

Come back next month for another round-up of all the interesting billboards lining the streets of Los Angeles, and more besides...

September's TV and movie billboard bonanza around L.A...

September really has been a bumper month for TV and movie billboards lining the skyline of L.A.

All the television studios have been shouting their loudest to get the maximum bums on seats for their new and returning shows this Autumn season. Here's just some of the offerings from the big and small screen in September.

TV Billboards
The Event TV billboards
I'm loving the reverse lettering within the show title in these billboards for The Event. It's the small details that make such a big difference and make you take a closer look.
SPF'd up TV billboard
I love this bright and quirky billboard for the sixth season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Glee Gleek Out billboard
Speaking of colourful billboards I'm 'gleeking out' over these 'slushie' creatives for the second season of musical comedy Glee.
Glee slushie TV billboard
This Sons of Anarchy season three billboard really stands out along Sunset Boulevard with its Easy Rider vibe.

Whilst this creative for new show, Terriers, is really in your face.
Terriers TV billboard
New superhero show, No Ordinary Family, has the comic book credentials of Michael Chiklis, who played 'The Thing' in the big screen version of The Fantastic Four.
No Ordinary Family TV billboard
I like the documentary feel of these creatives for new series My Generation that are lining the streets of L.A. (even though I've heard a negative buzz about the show itself).
My Generation Dad mistakes billboard
It seems the eyes have it in the next two billboards. First up is William Shatner for a Twitter inspired comedy sitcom $#*! my dad says.
William Shatner TV billboard
Next Under Siege's Steven Seagal stares down upon the Sunset Strip for Lawman, the reality show about his duties as a reserve deputy sheriff in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana.
Lawman TV billboard
This simple and effective creative for Lone Star clearly illustrates the show's central concept about a man living two lives.

Thirty years later and Hawaii Five-O returns to our small screens this Autumn season.
Hawaii Five-O TV billboard
I'm still really impressed by these massive billboards that are so prevalent in L.A., mainly because they are less commonplace in the U.K., and they make such an impact from afar.
Hawaii Five-O billboard
The latest billboard for Dexter's fifth season is slightly creepy with its pool of blood and baby bottle imagery.
Dexter season 5 billboard
Finally, enjoy this advertisement for The Defenders and its sexy 'Blind Justice', which is a real attention grabber amidst a pair of suit-wearing lawyers.
The Defenders TV billboard
Check out another ad creative for The Defenders at Daily Billboard.

Movie Billboards
Tron Legacy Olivia Wilde billboard
Disney continues to tease us with fantastic billboards for its forthcoming Tron revival, this one starring House's Olivia Wilde as cyber warrior 'Quorra'.
The Town film billboard
Ben Affleck may not be the greatest actor in the world, but he's getting rave reviews for his reinvention as a director and the billboard for his latest movie, The Town, really stands out with its imagery of gun-weilding nun bank robbers.
The Social Network billboard
I'm looking forward to seeing the story behind the creation of Facebook and I love these simple, but evocative billboards for The Social Network movie.
The Social Network movie billboard
Next here's a whole series of billboards for the computer animated fantasy Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole.

Who could resist those big, cute eyes?

And finally for movies, quite possibly the strangest billboard around L.A. at the moment, mainly due to the bearded person pictured on it, Joaquin Phoenix.
Joaquin Phoenix I'm still here billboard
Infamous for his bizarre appearance on David Letterman's Late Show, apparently all part of a planned film with Casey Affleck about the perception of celebrity in today's society.

And there you have it, a smorgasbord of eclectic billboards from the world of entertainment this month.

Enjoy and come back soon for the coolest fashion and lifestyle billboards in September...
