Best new TV and movie billboards around L.A. in September...

This month my DVR has struggled to keep up with the onslaught of new season programming and there have been some real winners and losers so far, but more importantly there have also been some amazing billboards for these new shows and returning favourites too.

TV billboards
Charlie's Angels bilboard Sunset Strip
They may have the biggest billboard along the Sunset Strip, but Charlie's Angels pilot episode didn't blow me away. Here's hoping it improves.
Pan Am billboard
The new 60's period drama chronicling the high life of Pan Am's airline flight crew was a slow starter, but looks like it may take off soon. I also think the Pan Am stewardess costume, along with the Playboy bunny girl, is going to be a Halloween favourite this year.
Terra Nova billboard
Terra Nova's two hour pilot episode almost caused my DVR to meltdown with conflicting shows like Dancing with the Stars and 2 Broke Girls, but luckily it looks like I'll be able to catch an encore edition of the prehistoric sci-fi show.
Person of Interest billboard
Person of Interest was another show that suffered from competing with my existing TV favourites. Thankfully most networks now allow you to watch episodes for free online.
Sons of Anarchy season 4 billboard
Sons of Anarchy returns for a fourth season with a great series of billboards for the gritty show about a motorcycle gang.
Dexter season 6 billboard
Dexter gets a killer billboard for his sixth season - you have to love those blood splatter angelic wings.
A Gifted Man billboard
I sadly missed the debut of Patrick Wilson's new drama, A Gifted Man, but did love the billboard with his piercing eyes.
American Horror Story billboard
American Horror Story had certainly the most arresting and surreal visual this season - it's not often you see a latex clad fetish character materialising through walls and hovering over a pregnant lady.
Unforgettable TV billboard
I liked the bold colours in the billboard for Unforgettable, about a female detective who is gifted with remembering everything. Let's hope it's more than just another procedural cop show cluttering the airwaves.
Giant Boardwalk Empire season 2 billboard
Boardwalk Empire gets a second season and another giant-sized billboard along Sunset Strip. If you like this, be sure to check out the first season billboard for Boardwalk Empire.
Hung season 3 billboard
Hung also returns for a third season with a fantastically raunchy billboard starring Thomas Jane's gigolo and a whole bevy of ladies legs. Very clever.
Giant Anderson billboard
I have to admit I have a little man crush on Anderson Cooper, so it was a bit of a treat to see this super-sized billboard for his new afternoon talk show. Can he replace Oprah as the queen of daytime TV I wonder?
X Factor US remake billboard
Simon Cowell brings The X Factor to U.S. shores this season, but it's yet to be seen whether it can catch up to the dizzying heights (and viewers) of American Idol.
Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 7 billboard
This month the bright and 'sunny' seventh season billboard for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia made me smile with its irreverent family portrait style creative.
2 Broke Girls billboard
Meanwhile 2 Broke Girls actually made me laugh with its first two episodes, although who knew it would be so risque.
Party Pooper billboard
The new comedy about coping with parenthood, Up All Night, had this fun tongue-in-cheek billboard for the new series. 'Party pooper', indeed.
New Girl billboard
Zooey Deschanel was certainly cute and 'adorkable' in her new sitcom, New Girl, and this billboard was also a bright and breezy breath of fresh air for the L.A. skyline.
Free Agents billboard
Free Agents got a U.S. remake and had a really witty billboard to help launch the new comedy.
Whitney Silent Treatment billboard
Finally, as well as co-creating 2 Broke Girls, Whitney Cummings also had her own new sitcom starring herself in the title role. I have to say the billboards for Whitney had the funniest ad campaign for a new season show.

Movie billboards
George Harrison HBO billboardEven though TV billboards dominated the sky, there were still quite a few cool movie billboards around town this September, including this interesting visual for the documentary film about the life of The Beatles' George Harrison.
Giant Straw Dogs movie billboard
Straw Dogs gets a 2011 remake and some great billboards for the film which mirror the 1971 original poster artwork.
Footloose 2011 billboard
After teasing us with a different creative for months, the Footloose remake cut loose with this new billboard.
Dolphin Tale billboard
Not only is Dolphin Tale based on a true story, but the billboard also added a cuteness factor to the city streets this month.
Disney Lion King billboard
Meanwhile Disney stormed back into cinemas with 1994's The Lion King in 3D for the first time and a special two week engagement, stealing the box office top spot both weekends.
Contagion billboard
Contagion may have had great billboards, but sadly I felt the film didn't live up to their promise.
Art of Flight billboard
High energy drink Red Bull made a film about pro-snowboarders to reinforce its brand promise that 'Red Bull gives you wings' and graced Sunset Strip with this spectacular billboard for The Art of Flight.
50/50 movie billboard
Finally for movies, I was surprised to discover that this billboard for 50/50 wasn't just for an all out farce (you never can tell with Seth Rogen), but actually an endearing and moving tale inspired by the experiences of a cancer survivor. It's definitely on my must-see list.

As you can see it's been a bumper month for entertainment, with lots of exciting new series and billboards. It'll be interesting to see who makes the cut and what new shows will replace the failures mid-season.

Be sure to come back at the end of October for another monthly round-up and visit Daily Billboard every day for more fantastic TV and movie creatives to delight you...
