This year my Halloween costume will Kick-Ass...

Happy Halloween everyone. I've been Spider-man, I've been Robin, this year it's time to Kick-Ass when it comes to my Halloween costume.

Jason in Hollywood kicks ass
Halloween Kick-Ass costume
I have to say I'm not overly impressed with my one-size-fits-all superhero costume, which kind of makes me look like a green Teletubbie (I think I need to be taller and skinnier), but it'll be dark tonight so I'll just have to lose myself in the colourful crowds at West Hollywood's Annual Halloween Carnaval.
Inflatable green Halloween skull
As always our Labrador, Cooper, was slightly bemused by my whole fancy dress rehearsal and it's always an effort to keep dog slobber of your superhero tights this time of year.
Kick-Ass Halloween costume
I'm looking forward to the usual parade of fantastic costume creations along Santa Monica Boulevard later and I'm sure they'll be much more impressive than my shop bought one, especially as there's always a lot of Hollywoodland industry talent responsible for amazing make-up and wardrobe designs in attendance.

Next year I'll do my best Project Runway effort and 'make it work' in time for Halloween.

Happy hauntings...

I rocked, I rolled, I hopefully beat last year's half marathon result...

Up at 5am and all over by 9.15am, now that's a way to start your Sunday.

Jason after the L.A. Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon 2011
Jason after Rock'n'Roll LA Half Marathon 2011
Today was another hard run, following a week of colds and not enough maintenance runs, my legs ached from the start and not all the Gu gels in the world were going to make me run any faster.

I believe I beat or at least matched last year's half marathon time, my watch saying around 1:39, but I have to wait for this evening for the official timed result.

L.A. Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon 2011 t-shirt, medal and bib no.
LA Rock'n'Roll shirt and medal 2011
One thing that did make me smile after the race was one of the freebies, a Snickers 'Marathon' energy bar. My British visitors will appreciate the nostalgic value in this as in the U.K. and Ireland the 'Snickers' chocolate bar was sold under the name 'Marathon' until about 1990.
Snickers Marathon energy bar
I have to say that this course was less inspiring than last year, or the recent Disneyland Half Marathon, not only did it loop back on itself to start and finish near L.A. Live, Downtown, but there were almost no spectators along the route to give encouragement to the runners, which always gives me a boost during the 13.1 miles.

Saying that, there were lots of cheer squads, the bands along the course are pretty poor so your own music is essential, and there was a certain satisfaction of seeing the lead runners loop around and run past you on their way back to the finish and for you to repeat the same for the slower fun runners behind you.

Jason at L.A. Live after the race
LA Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon Jason 2011
One more thing, that killer hill up over the bridge and back around at mile 9 and 10 almost finished me off. That wasn't a nice surprise at the end at all, although the view of the Downtown city skyline as you ran back was pretty spectacular illuminated in the morning sunshine.

Can't wait to see the agony on my face in the official race photos. Keeping my legs iced and fingers crossed that my race time is better than 2010...

Inspiring Byzantine-Latino Quarter angel mural...

Driving back from picking up my race packet in Downtown L.A. yesterday, I chanced upon this fantastic angel mural along Pico Boulevard at Normandie Avenue.

"We are each of us angels with one wing.
We can only fly embracing each other"
Byzantine-Latino Quarter angels mural
I love the sentiment behind this giant mural in this neighbourhood with a mix of strong influences from a Greek Orthodox Cathedral and Pan-Latin community.
Byzantine-Latino Quarter angels mural
It's been a while since I've had a really good angel sighting in this City of Angels, and this mural certainly ranks up there with the best...

Almost ready to Rock 'n' Roll L.A. again...

Today I picked up my race packet for the second L.A. Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon at the Convention Center in Downtown Los Angeles.

Jason at the Rock 'n' Roll Los Angeles Expo
Jason at LA Rock n Roll Half Marathon Expo
After starting the week with a weird cold I have to say I'm not feeling especially fit, but there's something about picking up your race bib, t-shirt and shoe tag to get you in the running mood.

You can see how I fared in pictures at last year's inaugural Rock 'n' Roll L.A. Half Marathon here at Jason in Hollywood. I completed the 13.1 miles in 1:39:50, which at the time was a personal best (since smashed at this year's Disneyland Half Marathon).

Give me some support if you see my bib number on Sunday
Rock n Roll LA Half Marathon bib
I remember last year's course being extremely hard, with lots of never-ending inclines, but the good news for 2011 is that they've changed the route and it's now a loop starting and ending at L.A. Live Downtown. I'm hoping for less hills and an easier run.

Wish me luck for this Sunday, as even if I don't run in costume, I'll certainly be sporting my T2: Team to End AIDS colours to help promote our marathon fundraising efforts...

Cool TV, game and film billboards around L.A. in October...

These past two months there really have seen a wealth of new television show and movie billboards around L.A. and what's more, for a billboard geek like me there's been loads of special extension creatives and super-sized versions to get excited about.

Sunset Strip billboards October 2011
October 2011 billboards Sunset Strip
Here's a collection of the best TV, film, music and video game billboards that October had to offer.
Movie billboards
Anonymous and The Ides of March billboards
First up is two billboards for the price of one, George Clooney's latest directorial effort, The Ides of March, and Shakespeare-themed period drama, Anonymous.
Footloose neon sign billboard
The Footloose remake arrived in cinemas this month and I have to say it wasn't that bad, although probably best if you've not to seen the original to compare it to. Regardless of the film, I did love this iconic looking neon sign billboard for the movie which lights up at night.
Happy Feet Two movie billboard
Those cute penguins are back in the animated sequel, Happy Feet Two. I do like that they've changed 'November' to 'Novemburr', but then I'm easily pleased.
Machine Gun Preacher film billboard
Finally enjoy this giant billboard for Gerard Butler's Machine Gun Preacher, based on a true story no less.

TV billboards
Walking Dead season 2 TV billboard
First up for television is a returning show which may just be may favourite TV series at the moment, even though I'm not a fan of zombie gore. I really love this atmospheric billboard for the second season of The Walking Dead.
Vampire Diaries season 3 billboard
Keeping with the undead theme, this new billboard for The Vampire Diaries third season also caught my eye with its gory creative. That's actually a juicy pomegranate and not a beating heart that Nina Dobrev is holding, but I love that the blood effect is oozing onto the roof of the infamous Whisky A Go-Go club below it, along L.A.'s Sunset Strip.
Ponygeist Hub billboard
Also just in time for Halloween is this fantastic homage to 1982's horror classic, Poltergeist. The Hub channel is certainly targeting parents with its nostalgic campaigns for the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic cartoon. If you like this, be sure to also check out the Bridlemaids billboard parody from earlier this year.
How to make it in America billboard
Amongst the giant billboards was this second season billboard for How to make it in America, which wasn't that easy to look at with that psychedelic effect, but did catch your eye because of the jarring creative.
Family Jewels wedding billboard
Another favourite for the month was this fantastic wedding cake billboard for Gene Simmons Family Jewels reality show.
Bored to Death season 3 billboard
Continuing with those special extension billboards and this funny Bored to Death season three billboard also stood out in October.
Giant Boss TV billboards
Frasier's Kelsey Grammer returned in a 'big' way to Sunset Boulevard with this super-sized billboard for his new show, Boss, on Starz.
A-List Dallas billboard
The A-List: New York spawned a spin-off based in Dallas and gave us another 'Housewives with balls' billboard.
Worst School billboard
Adult Swim continued to entertain with its unconventional billboards for its animated shows, like this one for China, IL. They always make me smile because you never know what to expect next.
Grimm TV billboard
With two Snow White films in production and Once Upon a Time debuting on ABC to 16 million viewers, fairytales seem to be big business this TV season, so here's another show in the spirit of Supernatural, called 'Grimm' to cash in on those fables of old.
30 Rock, Rocks TV billboard
Even with all the new TV comedies, 30 Rock continues to go from strength to strength and went five nights a week.
Beavis and Butt-head MTV billbaord
Beavis and Butt-head return to MTV with all new episodes and an all new billboard along Sunset Boulevard this month.
American Hoggers TV billboard
I didn't even know what a 'Hogger' was until I saw this billboard for A&E's 'American Hoggers', but apparently this show follows a family of wild boar hunters in Texas who protect the general population from feral hogs.
Giant Homeland billboard
Not only do I love this giant billboard, but I've just started watching Homeland on Showtime and am loving the tense terrorist paranoia thriller.
Vietnam HD billboard
And if you need some more war programming, you can check out Vietnam in HD on The History Channel.
Five Lifetime billboard
Lifetime's 'Five' was an anthology of five short films about breast cancer directed by the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Alicia Keys and Demi Moore.
Enlightened TV billboard
Kudos go to Laura Dern this month for looking totally 'unHollywood' on the billboard for her new HBO show. You can also check out a giant billboard for Enlightened at my Daily Billboard blog.
Rosie Show OWN billboard
Funny lady Rosie O'Donnell returns to TV on weeknights, with a new show on Oprah Winfrey's OWN channel.
Nate Berkus Show billboard
Whilst another Oprah protege, interior design expert Nate Berkus, continues with his winning smile and impeccable hair in his own daytime show on NBC.
Ellen Never know billboard
Ellen Degeneres is also back with her popular weekday show and it's nice to see such a strong positive lesbian role model still going strong on American television.
Conan Show NYC billboard
Finally for TV, Conan O'Brien returns to the Sunset Strip with this fun, self-deprecating billboard for his New York themed week.

Games billboards
Call of Duty MW3 billboard
This month the giant Homeland billboard made way for this other war themed billboard for the video game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, which really stood out with that white background.
Rage video game billboard
In fact, guns were everywhere this month, like in this post-apocalyptic ad for video game, Rage and other military game, Battlefield 3.
Battlefield 3 game billboard
Where are all the billboards for the nice and fluffy games I have to ask, where you're not shooting or beating someone to death.

Music billboards
U2 From The Sky Down billboard
Finally, this billboard for rock band U2, which could equally fall into TV or a film documentary category, graces the infamous Sunset Strip which is apt considering its rock star heritage.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg in October, when the day's are getting shorter and sun moving more quickly, making it harder to capture all these billboards in their best light.

I'll run the L.A. Rock'n'Roll Half Marathon as Wonder Woman if I get enough people to sponsor me...

If I can get enough people to sponsor me by this Sunday, then I'll run the 13.1 mile L.A. Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon as Wonder Woman. Now there's an incentive to donate right?
Wonder Woman Jason Bay to Breakers 2011
All proceeds will go to the essential work done by AIDS Project Los Angeles and that's why I'm training with T2: Team to End AIDS for my second L.A. Marathon next March.

I've been suffering from a cold this week and it's not easy to run in costume, as I discovered at the 12k Bay to Breakers this May, but if you DONATE TODAY then I'll transform myself into the DC Comics glamazon for the half marathon this weekend.

It's for such a worthy cause and it is Halloween after all, so how can you resist me making a fool of myself for your pleasure...

Cool fashion, arts and lifestyle billboards around L.A. in October...

There were lots of new additions to the city skyline this month, from Fall fashion, to travel and the arts, plus great alcohol and soft beverage billboards to catch your eye. Take a look at L.A.'s latest ad offerings.

Art billboards
Urban Land Project LA billboard
I had to start with this billboard for the Urban Land Project because it's such a welcome visual relief from all the other kinds of advertising crowding Los Angeles skies. Designed to support the work of inspiring individuals by showcasing their creative work, this billboard certainly made me intrigued and want to know more.
LA Art Show 2011 billboard
Keeping with the artistic theme, I'm loving this colourful billboard for the Art Show 2011, which will apparently be a temporary art exhibition where none of the art is for sale and will be destroyed at the end of the final day. A slightly unconventional idea, but it is for the love of art after all.

Drinks billboards
Hennessy Cognac billboard
Back to more conventional thinking, and drinking (you see what I did there), and there's been the usual eclectic collection of alcohol billboards around town this month, mostly along the Sunset Strip, like this super-sized Hennessy Cognac billboard.
Svedka mixed messages billboard
The Svedka Vodka fembot is back and flaunting herself all over L.A., whilst Skyy Vodka continues to kick up its heels with some vibrant and sexy ads.
Skyy Vodka heels billboard
Meanwhile Bushmills Whisky is not planning to let vodka muscle in on its spirits drinkers, as it's been around and shared by friends since way back.
Bushmills Whisky billboard
Newcastle Brown returns to the scene with another witty billboard in its lighthearted campaign for the British ale.
Newcastle Brown Ale billboard
If it's a soft drink you're after to quench your thirst then there's another new bottled water-based drink to try, this one even comes with a fancy cap filled with vitamins.
Activate Sugar not vitamins billboard
Even though Activate's comparative advertising is clever and fun, I almost feel they doth protest too much with their claims.
Activate full of cap billboard
I mean whatever's in those caps is still an additive, right?

Fashion and beauty billboards
Robin Jeans 2011 billboard
I love this creative for Robin's Jeans, it's got a very retro American feel to it. I especially like the wooden fence effect in the background.
Kellan Lutz Abbot + Main billboard
Twilight's Kellan Lutz looks all moody for Abbot + Main along Sunset Strip this month.
Kmart Sofia fashion billboard
Another star gracing Sunset Boulevard is Modern Family's Sofia Vergara, with her own clothing brand at Kmart and looking gorgeous in leopard print.
CK One Box billboard
CK One continues its Box campaign with this latest creative. Be sure to check out the other Calvin Klein billboards in this series at my Daily Billboard blog.
AX Fall 2011 fashion billboard
Armani Exchange continues to grace the city skyline with glam models, whilst Ugg had this rugged, manly looking boot billboard for its new range for men.
Ugg Men billboard
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley bares all for Burberry's new 'Body' perfume, this Transformers star is certainly no robot-in-disguise.
Burberry Body fragrance billboard
Meanwhile this simple Chanel make-up ad looks great against that blue Californian sky.
Chanel Makeup billboard

Health billboards
Live Hot GNC billboard
GNC continues its mono ad campaign and you can check out the previous Live Well billboards at Daily Billboard.
New Love HIV test billboard
Plus I'm liking the latest AIDS Healthcare billboard with its retro pop art feel, they're always great at changing things up to grab attention for their essential health messages.

Technology billboards
Bose soundlink billboard
Bose's advert for its new Soundlink speaker really stands out with its special extension sticking out at the top of the billboard, although I think the models skin tone would have looked better with a more natural colour, rather than this tonal effect which looks like a badly lit photograph.

Charity billboards
AIDS Lifecycle billboard
So many of my friends from the T2: Team to End AIDS Marathon training group went on to ride the 600 mile AIDS Lifecycle from San Francisco to L.A., so it was no surprise to see this billboard for such a worthy cause in my West Hollywood neighbourhood. Personally I'll stick to running though.

Travel billboards
Disney Aulani Hawaii billboard
Finally for this round-up, here's two fun and colourful billboards for Disney's travel offerings. First is a giant billboard for Disney's new Hawaiian resort, Aulani.
Disney Baja Cruise Line billboard
Secondly, Donald Duck and his nephews catch a wave on Disney's Cruise Line from L.A. to Baja.

Be sure to check out more stylish and creative billboards every day at Daily Billboard and come back at the end of November for another round-up...
