Hot new TV billboards around L.A. in August 2013..

The battle for audiences for new TV shows and returning favourites is only just beginning as August has seen the first onslaught of fall season billboards invading the skies of L.A. Here's a glimpse at some of the hot contenders vying to get your bums on seats in front of television screens watching them this season.

TV billboards
Marvel Agents of SHIELD season 1 billboard
Being a lifelong Marvel Comics fan, my most anticipated show this season has to be Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which spins off from the Marvel cinematic universe and sees Clark Gregg reprise his role as Agent Coulson. But wait, didn't he die in the blockbuster Avengers movie? Exciting.

If you like this series premiere promo, be sure to also check out this S.H.I.E.L.D. logo teaser billboard for the new show too.
Sleepy Hollow series premiere TV remake billboard
Another spin-off from the world of movies if Fox's new Sleepy Hollow series, which really does prove originality of TV is dead. It seems the big networks are so convinced of their own failure on the small screen, that they can't produce anything which doesn't have some small brand familiarity or fan base to help get it established.

Only time will tell if this re-imagining of the headless horseman mythology, which also appeared in the 1999 Sleepy Hollow film starring Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci, will strike a chord and find an audience fourteen years later.
White Queen giant billboard
This month another import from the U.K. made a giant-sized entrance in L.A. The BBC's The White Queen period drama will air in the U.S. on Starz cable channel and had this striking spectacular ad creative on the side of Beverly Boulevard's Sofitel Hotel.
Strike Back season 3 billboard
The military action series, Strike Back, is another show which started life on British TV screens, also returns for a third season on Cinemax and had this fantastic war propaganda style promo billboard to support it.

The design is a real departure from previous seasons, so be sure to check out these Strike Back season one and two billboards too.
Masters of Sex series premiere billboard
Some people would prefer to make love not war, so here's a very restrained billboard for Showtime's new Masters of Sex drama series, which is all about the research into the sexual revolution in the 1950's onwards by William Masters and Virginia Johnson.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia season 9 billboard
And if the thought of sex doesn't tickle your fancy, maybe some comedy will this season. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia returns for a whopping ninth season and moves to the newly established channel, FXX.

This funny season nine mono banana billboard is a nice homage to the angst ridden black and white films by Swedish director, Ingmar Bergman.
James Franco Comedy Central Roast billboard
Meanwhile James Franco has been getting ready for his Comedy Central Roast with a four-day billboard installation that changed every day culminating in this knock-out ad creative.
Robin Williams The Crazy Ones giant billboard
Talking up of stand-up comedy, Robin Williams returns to mainstream TV this fall with a new show with Sarah Michelle Gellar as his daughter in The Crazy Ones.

Here's a super-sized billboard towering over the Sunset Strip for the series about the funny man being an eccentric boss at an advertising company.
Low Winter Sun series premiere billboard
From comedy to new cop dramas, Mark Strong stars in a gritty new thriller as a Detroit homicide detective mixed up in murder and corruption in Low Winter Sun.
Cold Justice series premiere billboard
From fiction to real-life and TNT has a new series about real crimes and real results of criminal cold case investigations in Cold Justice.
Giant Doomsday Castle billboard
There was more fly-on-the-wall reality TV debuting this month in the form of Doomsday Castle, which received this giant billboard along the Sunset Strip. The show follows a Carolina family who have built their own Medieval Castle in the isolated woods to survive the coming apocalypse with no power and limited supplies.
Modern Dads series premiere billboard
From end-of-the-world to brave new worlds and A&E had this fun creative for their new reality series about Modern Dads, which sees stay-at-home dads coping with parenthood and trading power tools for diapers and feeding bottles.
The Bible Emmy billboard
Aside from all the advertising for new shows, there were also several billboards this month to help support certain series Emmy nominations, like this one for Outstanding Miniseries for History's The Bible.
American Horror Story Asylum Emmy billboard
FX also spent a pretty penny shouting about the spooky sophomore season of American Horror Story: Asylum, which garnered the most Emmy Award nominations this season, plus filled L.A.'s skyline with an array of billboards featuring media quotes for its comedy, Louie, starring stand-up comedian Louis C.K.
Louie CK Emmy billboard
Be sure to check out all the different variations of the Emmy 2013 billboards for Louie at my Daily Billboard blog.

If you like all these new season TV billboards check out Daily Billboard every day for even more fantastic examples and come back next month for another comprehensive round-up.

I think it's going to be a jam-packed month to come...

Stylish fashion billboards around L.A. in August 2013...

So far this month we've seen round-ups of the best movie, drinks and lifestyle billboards, now it's time for a bit of flair and drama with this stylish collection of fashion billboards from around the streets of Los Angeles.

Fashion billboards
Banana Republic issa Collection queens guard billboard
Being British this new Banana Republic billboard for their special edition Issa Collection really spoke to me with its Queen's Guards on parade. The limited collection pairs Kate Middleton's favourite designer Issa London's chic feminine shapes and signature prints with the U.S. retailer's effortless modern looks.
Adriano Goldschmied FW 2013 billboard
Meanwhile this for this fall season Adriano Goldschmied (one of the founder's of the Diesel clothing brand who is no longer with this new company that bears his name) filled this skies of L.A. with their latest sophisticated denim on denim looks and an array of new billboard creatives.
Adriano Goldschmied FW 2013 highway billboard
This fashion editorial story looks like it was taken along some American highway in the mountains, which gives it a cool, edgy feel.
Adriano Goldschmied Jeans FW 2013 billboard
Another company big on denim this season is Gap, returning to its roots with its 'Back to blue' ad creatives which star the granddaughter of literary legend, Ernest Hemingway, model Dree Hemingway.
Gap Back to blue billboard
Another model with famous heritage is Georgia May Jagger, the daughter of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger and supermodel Jerry Hall, back again for another ad campaign in mono for Hudson Jeans.
Hudson Jeans Georgia May Jagger FW 2013 billboards
And speaking of jeans, it would be churlish not to mention Levi's simple, back to basics 'Made & Crafted' billboard along Melrose Avenue this month.
Made Crafted Levis billboard
Fron denim jeans to far more luxurious attire and Gucci really raised the fashion stakes in August with this glamorous new pre-fall season creative featuring Daria Strokous.
Gucci FW 2013 billboard
Meanwhile Prada seemed to step back in time a tad with this 'heroin chic' billboard with Amanda Murphy looking a bit pale and like she could use a good meal in this ad creative.
Prada FW 2013 fashion billboard
And even though the sun is still shining brightly and the heat rising in L.A., the ads, like this one for Tommy Hilfiger, keep coming with their winter looks (it's the strangest thing and something which has always dumfounded me about fashion).
Tommy Hilfiger FW 2013 fashion billboard
It's not that I don't like the creatives, I just find them ill-timed. In fact I really like this wonderfully autumnal looking ad for Hale Bob along Sunset Boulevard.
Hale Bob FW 2013 fashion billboard
Meanwhile the designer known for her infamous wrap dress, Diane von Furstenburg, was back in the skies along Sunset Plaza with this new creative.
Diane Von Furstenburg FW 2013 fashion billboard
And Hollywood A-Lister Nicole Kidman brought some edgy sophistication and sexy style to Jimmy Choo's Fall/Winter ad campaign, especially with this super-sized billboard along the Sunset Strip.
Giant Nicole Kidman Jimmy Choo FW 2013 billboard
And speaking of funky footwear, although clearly not as expensive, Aldo Shoes also debuted a new creative this month with 'Give me Aldo'.
Give me Aldo billboard
Another shoe brand that caught my eye with some clever advertising was this 'We love L.A.' billboard design from Keds, where spotty red shoes form a heart shape.
Keds We Love LA shoe billboard
Being a runner I never trust sneakers (or trainers as we call them in the U.K.) that look overly-designed. Sadly these Adidas Springblades look like they may be style over substance and a bit of a fashion fad.
Adidas Springblade billboard
In the world of jewelry this explosive ad for Circa of Beverly Hills made an impact this month.
Circa jewelry billboard
And even though most fashion brands were putting away their summer looks in favour of winter woolens and thick coats, LFH Swim was still embracing summer in L.A. poolside with this bikini babe billboard.
LFH Swim bikini babe billboard
As you can see it's been a month of change for fashion and will no doubt continue to evolve in the weeks to come.

Be sure to check out this month's movie billboards and lifestyle billboards in L.A. and stay tuned for a sneak peak at all the new TV show billboards invading the city skyline at the start of a new fall television season...

Supercool movie billboards around L.A. in August 2013...

Some people may be feeling a bit of blockbuster fatigue by the end of August, but that didn't stop the movie billboards from continuing to fill the skies of L.A. this month. Enjoy this selection of film billboards from around the busy streets of Los Angeles.

Movie billboards
Live bodybuilder billboard installation Pain Gain Blu-ray release
Probably the most eye-catching and PR worthy billboard this month belonged to Pain & Gain, which featured actual bodybuilders working out on a platform along the Sunset Strip to draw attention to the movie's Blu-ray release. Pretty spectacular, right?

Be sure to check out even more photos of this living Pain & Gain billboard installation and the cinematic release ad campaign at my Daily Billboard blog.
Giant Kick-Ass 2 movie billboard
Another arresting billboard this month was this super-sized ad creative for Kick-Ass 2 along Wilshire Boulevard in Westwood. Even though this ultra-violent comedy sequel bombed again at the box office, there's no end in sight to superhero-themed movies on the big screen yet.
Youre Next movie billboard
Even though low budget horror has done well this year with The Purge and The Conjuring performing well, it looks like box office fatigue may have set in just ahead of Halloween with the scary home invasion movie, You're Next, dying at cinemas. It's a real shame as the You're Next ad campaign was really creepy and unsettling, which is perfect for a horror movie.
Paranoia movie billboard
The thriller Paranoia was another movie which didn't do well this summer, and not even big names like Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman could save it, even though it also had some clever billboards to support its release.
Mortal Instruments City of Bones billboard
Meanwhile, not so supercool this month was these billboards for The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, which looked really dated and probably contributed to the poor performance at the box office this month.
Riddick movie billboard
Even though his last Chronicles of Riddick sci-fi movie bombed in 2004, Vin Diesel is back with a third installment of the franchise based on 2000's Pitch Black fugitive who can see in the dark.
Capitol Couture L'Essence d'un Champion Hunger Games 2 teaser billboard
Speaking of movie franchises, the second Hunger Games, Catching Fire, is teasing audiences with this viral campaign featuring a mock fragrance ad for one of its characters in advance of the official full blown ad campaign.
Lee Daniels The Butler movie billboard
Lee Daniels' The Butler, about a black butler serving in the U.S. President's White House, beat Kick-Ass 2 at the box office helped by the star power of Oscar-nominated Oprah Winfrey and Oscar-winning Forest Whitaker. The silhouette of a butler wrapped in an American flag is a pretty cool visual to convey the themes of the movie.
Instructions not included billboard
Meanwhile this billboard for Instructions not included is pretty sweet, a film about a man who has made a new life for him and his daughter when her birth mother resurfaces to challenge their status quo.
Despicable Me 2 special installation billboard
Despicable Me 2 may have been released earlier this summer but I spied this cool special installation recently at Universal Studio Hollywood's Lowe Lot, which is a lot of 'Minion' fun. If you're a fan of the computer-animated comedy, be sure to check out these Despicable Me 2 billboards.
Cloudy Chance of Meatballs 2 movie billboard
And finally, here's another animated sequel heading our way soon, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 looks like it's a lot of crazy fun.

Be sure to check out this month's round-up of drinks and lifestyle billboards and come back soon for some fantastic new season TV billboards and stylish fashion ads from around the City of Angels.

In the meantime keep your eyes to the skies...

Refreshing drinks and lifestyle billboards around L.A. in August 2013...

Once again it's been an eventful month in the skies of L.A., so here's a selection of the best visions in vinyl for drinks, food, technology, video games and other lifestyle billboards in August.

Drinks billboards
Pom Coconut special extension billboard
I seem to have seen these cool Pom Wonderful special extension billboards spring up everywhere around L.A. this month for the new product variants from the Californian pomegranate juice company. Check out all the eye-catching and fun billboards for Pom Mango, Coconut and Hula (their pineapple mixed juice drink) at my Daily Billboard blog.
Sunset Swings Tonight we Tanqueray gin billboard
Meanwhile the Sunset Strip was swinging this month with its huge annual music festival and certain alcoholic drinks brands like Jack Daniel's whiskey and Tanqueray gin were making the most of all the addition footfall in the neighbourhood.
Giant Michelob Ultra Live life to the Ultra billboard
Beer brands were also tying to catch your eye this month to quench your thirst in the summer heat and both Michelob Ultra and Pacifico beer were using imagery of female surfers as a way to sell their brews.
Pacifico Beer surfer billboard
I especially think that the Pacifico beer billboard captures that California beach spirit.
Stella Artois Cidre billboard
Stella Artois was also launching its cider offering this month, or 'cidre', as they like to call it. This billboard certainly looks like it belongs to Stella Artois and its crisp, clean design hints at that refreshing, chilled cider taste.

Food billboards
The Simpsons Butterfinger billboard
This month the mystery deepened about who stole Bart Simpson's Butterfinger candy bar in these clever 'Usual Suspect' police line-up homage. Be sure to also check out the preceding Butterfinger's Nobody better lay a finger teaser billboard too in the same location.
Vons tomatoes special extension billboard
Another foodie billboard that really stood out was this in-your-face special extension tomatoes billboard for Vons supermarket local produce offering.
California Avocados billboard
And speaking of locally sourced fruit and vegetables, the state of California obviously wants its residents to support its farm grown produce.

Technology billboards
Giant GoPro surfer billboard
Surfers seem to be a recurring theme lately, as well as on beer billboards, this giant-sized surfer was spotted in the heart of Hollywood over the Pantages Theatre to promote GoPro's camcorder designed for adrenaline sports like surfing, skiing and skydiving.
iPad Daft Punk billboard
Meanwhile Apple introduced another wave of ad creatives for its iPad tablet, which were as bold and visually eye-catching as usual, and also very timely with their use of Daft Punk on some of the creatives.
New Yorker iPad billboard

Video game billboards
Giant Disney Infinity video game billboard
Disney made a big splash this month for its new Infinity video game which mashes up lots of its popular Disney and Disney/Pixar characters like Monsters Inc, Cars, Toy Story, The Incredibles, Wreck-it Ralph, Pirates of the Caribbean and even The Lone Ranger.
Giant Grand Theft Auto 5 video game billboard
Plus at the other end of the spectrum, Grand Theft Auto is back with a fifth installment with super-sized billboards for the game starting to pop up around the streets of L.A.

Charity billboards
NKLA Pet adoption center cat billboard
Meanwhile cat lovers got a treat this month with this mono billboard along Santa Monica Boulevard for No Kill L.A.'s new pet adoption center (for cats and dogs).

Dating billboards
Ashley Madison Bringing marriages back to life billboard
And probably one of the most outrageous, and possibly offensive, billboards in August was this ad creative for the hook up website for cheating married people, Ashley Madison. Being newly married myself I find the whole concept of the website slightly repugnant, even if I find the zombie ad creative to be clever.

Travel and tourism billboards
San Diego Zoo Cheetah Run billboard
Speaking of cheaters, sorry cheetahs, this ad creative with a zebra fleeing from a cheetah and crashing through the billboard is a lot of fun from San Diego Zoo.

Car billboards
Nissan Versa Note your door to more billboard
And finally, the Nissan Versa Note car added more than a splash of colour this month to the city skies with this mural-inspired ad creative.

As you can see there was a real eclectic mix of lifestyle billboards around Los Angeles in August.

Stick around in the days to come for more cool round-ups of TV, movie and fashion billboards brightening the city skyline...
