Super new movie costumes and props on display around L.A. recently...

Even though there tend to be many blockbuster moves released in the Summer, for some reason there's always a drought of movie and costume exhibits to accompany them (but maybe mostly because the films rely too heavily on CGI monsters, robots, apes or turtles to require real wardrobes and set decoration).

Way back at the end of April though, the ArcLight Hollywood cinema foyer was graced by some fantastic superhero and villain suits from The Amazing Spider-man 2. And even if the movie itself was a tad disappointing and offered nothing particularly new to the superhero movie genre, it was still cool to see these Spidey and Electro costumes up close.

Meanwhile in May I was fortunate to see several costume and prop displays from Disney's live-action Maleficent movie, which starred Angelina Jolie in the titular role and chronicled the untold story of the iconic villain.

I have to say I loved the fairytale movie and preferred it to many other over-hyped sci-fi and fantasy movies this Summer. The costumes by Anna B. Sheppard were fabulous and I loved Maleficent's wings and the flying scenes in the movie.

And finally the only other exhibit I've spied since then, is this display of original props used in Richard Linklater's new drama Boyhood, which was filmed over the span of twelve years and followed the life of a boy named 'Mason' from 6 to 18.

Let's hope the rest of the year will be more forthcoming when it comes to costume and props displays, especially with major comic book conventions and Halloween on the way and people in need of costume inspiration...
