Cool new TV billboards around L.A. in March 2014...

This month along with the glut of fashion, movie and lifestyle billboards, the skies of L.A. were also crammed with lots of ad creatives for debuting TV shows and returning favourite series, with some coming to the final seasons of their critically-acclaimed runs.

TV billboards
Giant Veep season 3 billboard Sunset Strip
First up is this giant-sized billboard for the third series of the political comedy, Veep, with Julia Louis-Dreyfus and her Vice Presidential staff paying homage to Washington Crossing the Delaware in this clever creative.
Shameless season 4 billboard
Next up even the U.S. version of Shameless had a political, revolutionary flavour for it's fourth season billboard.
Californication season 7 billboard
And also on Showtime David Duchovny's Californication comes to the end of the road in this seventh and final season with this very open top California dreaming billboard.
Silicon Valley series launch billboard
Silicon Valley is a new comedy on HBO and about the infamous hi-tech industry region in Northern California and pays homage to Apple's founder Steve Jobs with this spoof billboard for the series launch.
Farmed and Dangerous series launch billboard
Another series debuting and paying tribute to a famous painting is Chipotle's funded comedy, Farmed and Dangerous, which resembles Grant Wood's iconic American Gothic painting of a farmer and his daughter. In this fictional Hulu series Ray Wise's devilish pitchfork wielding businessman represents big industrial food production companies versus Chipotle's favoured sustainable approach to farming.
Review series premiere billboard
Comedy Central's new comedy with Andy Daly is a show where everything in life is up for review and this was the first part of a two-part billboard series, the second version was a fun graffitied version of this Review billboard, so be sure to check the visual joke out at my Daily Billboard Blog.
Giant Vice season 2 billboard
Meanwhile Vice is back for a second season of groundbreaking news and current affairs stories from around the globe, going where other news outlets are afraid to go, and has this impactful super-sized billboard ad to attract viewers.
Giant Game of Thrones All Men Must Die season 4 billboard
And on the flip-side of the 9000 building along Sunset Boulevard, Game of Thrones if back in a back way for its fourth season with this arresting 'All men must die' crow of swords creative.

If you're a fan of the medieval fantasy series, be sure to check out all these previous season billboards for Game of Thrones too.
Mad Men final season 7 billboard
Another popular series returning for its seventh and final season is AMC's Mad Men, with this psychedelic ad creative as 'Don Draper' and those Madison Avenue advertising guys and gals head into the groovy 70's.

Again, if you're a fan of this show, be sure to check out all these different Mad Men season promo billboards from years past.
Giant Believe series premiere billboard
NBC hopes to attract audiences for its new supernatural thriller from J. J. Abrams and Alfonso CuarĂ³nBelieve, with this giant-sized billboard for the debuting show in Westwood.
The 100 series premiere billboard
And The CW hopes to attract the attention of its youthful audience with this new sci-fi mash-up of The Hunger Games, Lord of the Flies and Lost, when The 100 return to a changed post-apocalyptic Earth.
Those Who Kill series premiere billboard
Chloe Sevigny returns to TV this season with Those Who Kill, another homicide detective show, but this one with a personal stake as she tries to find out the truth about the disappearance of her brother while tracking serial killers.
Resurrection Did I really die teaser billboard
And finally, ABC's Resurrection is based on the book The Returned by Jason Mott and finds the dead loved ones of the residents of Arcadia, Missouri returned to the land of the living. I liked this 'Did I really die?' teaser billboard, but unfortunately there was no second billboard payoff to tell audiences what it was all about.

If you like these eye-catching ads, be sure to check out this month's movie billboards around L.A. and  tune in to Daily Billboard every day for all the latest TV show billboards.

Hard to believe it's the end of March already, let's hope April brings more interesting sights to the Los Angeles skyline...

Attention-grabbing film billboards gracing the skies of L.A. in March 2014...

I'm not sure what's more exciting this month, the amount of big earthquake tremors we're having, or the fact that the skies of L.A. are filled with some amazing movie billboards this movie. Here's a selection of the most eye-catching outdoor ad creatives from the worlds of superheroes, fantasy, animation, Biblical epics, sci-fi, horror, romance, drama, history and more besides.

Movie billboards
Amazing Spider-man 2 movie billboard
Spidey's back, quite literally, with this instantly recognisable billboard for the friendly neighborhood web-slinger and if you like this, be sure to check out more billboards for The Amazing Spider-man 2, where 'Peter Parker' faces off against arch-enemies 'Electro' and 'The Rhino' on the big screen for the first time.
Captain America Winter Soldier movie billboard
Meanwhile this month I was fortunate enough to go to the World Premiere of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and I thought it was fantastic. Not only is the newest Marvel movie action-packed with some great humor, with Chris Evans putting in his best performance as the patriotic super-soldier, but there are also some real unexpected surprises and the debut of 'The Falcon'.

If you like this special extension billboard, be sure to also check out this giant Captain America: The Winter Soldier billboard along L.A.'s Sunset Strip, which also showcases 'Black Widow', 'Nick Fury' and the rest of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Maleficent winged movie billboard
One of the most breathtaking billboards to arrive in the skies of the City of Angels this month has to be this dark winged Maleficent ad creative for Disney's live-action fantasy film telling the untold tale of how this iconic fairytale villain became so twisted and evil.
Rio 2 Beak Out special extension billboard
Speaking of wings, and another favourite of mine is definitely this 'Beak Out' special extension billboard of 'Blu' in sunglasses from the animated comedy sequel, Rio 2.

To promote the film this month, the studio also had a spectacular live Mardi Gras carnival dancer billboard for Rio 2 along West Hollywood's busy Sunset Strip, so be sure to check out photos of that fun installation at my Daily Billboard Blog.
Russell Crowe Noah special extension movie billboard
This year it seems that Hollywood planes to mine the Bible for new movies and one of the first to arrive is Noah, starring Russell Crowe as the titular builder of the ark to save humanity from an apocalyptic flood.
Divergent movie billboard
From the disastrous past to a post-apocalyptic future, and the newest young adult novel adaptation, Divergent, landed in cinemas this month. I've not read the source material, which is probably why I enjoyed the movie so much.
Muppets Most Wanted Miss Piggy movie billboard
The same day I saw Divergent I also watched Muppets Most Wanted as a special double bill treat. The movies couldn't be more different, but I enjoyed both equally and even though the cinema was filled with families, it aaas the adults who seemed to be laughing the loudest at the jokes and visual gags.

Plus I also got to see lots of authentic movie costumes and props from Muppets Most Wanted on display at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, including Miss Piggy's Vivienne Westwood designed wedding dress, so be sure to take a look at the cool exhibit.
Giant Bad Words movie billboard
From family fun to more adult humour and this month marked Jason Bateman's directorial debut in Bad Words, about a bitter grown up who enters a kids spelling bee to get his revenge from his childhood.
Giant Fifty Shades of Grey movie teaser billboard
Another giant-sized billboard on the streets of L.A. early this year was this teaser for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie adaptation, which is not released in cinemas for another year.
Oculus movie billboard
From steamy romance to horror and there's a few new movies coming soon hoping to scare cinema goers. First up is Oculus which stars Doctor Who's 'Amy Pond', Karen Gillan, in her first big screen role before she stars as the villain 'Nebula' in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy out in August. An antique mirror causes all kinds of trouble in this spooky film.
The Quiet Ones movie billboard
Next is Hammer's new supernatural horror, The Quiet Ones, about a team of university students experimenting on a girl troubled by dark forces.
Cesar Chavez movie billboard
From horror to history, and Cesar Chavez tells the true story of the iconic Latino farm worker, labour leader and civil rights activist who fought for Mexican American equality and empowerment in the 1960's.
TCM Classic Film Festival 2014 witch billboard
Also with history in mind, this month these TCM Classic Film Festival billboards have appeared in the skies of L.A. to mark the annual celebration of film in the heart of Hollywood.
2014 TCM Classic Film Festival billboard
This four-day event allows movie lovers to view cinematic classics on the big screen at iconic Hollywood venues.
In finally, from celebrating the past to looking forward to the future of film watching and Google Play has a two-part billboard installation along Sunset Strip this month on either side of the busy road, to illustrate its streaming and downloadable movie offering, from new award winners to popular classics.

As you can see there's been some real attention-grabbing out-of-home ads to delight passersby in March. Be sure to also take a look at the fashion billboards and lifestyle billboards also gracing the city skyline this month, and come back soon for an outdoor advert round-up of new and returning TV shows...

The 50 Cakes of Gay...

Forget Fifty Shades of Grey, 50 Cakes of Gay is what's important in the U.S. at the moment.

50 Cakes of Gay wall mural by Kashink & OverUnder
50 cakes of gay wall mural West Hollywood
I may be coming to the party late by featuring this colourful wall mural, but I'm not one to frequent back alleys, and when you walk past something everyday with your dog sometimes it becomes part of the norm.
50 cakes of gay marriage wall mural West Hollywood
L.A. is famous for its street art and graffiti and this mural in support of gay marriage first appeared last year when Prop 8 was repealed in California and same-sex marriage was made legal once more.

Located in the alley parallel to Santa Monica Boulevard behind gay bars like Eleven and Trunks in West Hollywood, the celebratory artwork is by French female street artist Kashink and Erik Burke aka OverUnder.

With 17 states in america now recognizing same-sex marriages and more imminent, hopefully it won't be long before there are '50 states of gay', but there's still a war against bigotry and inequality yet to be won, both in the U.S. and all around the world.

With atrocities being committed on a daily basis in countries such as Uganda and Russia, and discrimination, bullying and gay rights being ignored closer to home, there's still reason to wave those rainbow pride flags and celebrate equality victories along the way to true freedom.
50 wedding cakes of gay mural Kashink OverUnder
This wedding cake wall mural may be slightly hidden away, but that doesn't mean it's not appreciated, one for making an alley much prettier, but also by someone who was finally able to marry his same-sex partner of 14 years last July and enjoy the same rights as other married couples at a Federal level.

Our wedding party cupcakes from Sweet Lady Jane
Sweet Lady Jane wedding party cupcakes
At our small wedding party gathering on Cafe La Boheme's patio we opted for scrumptious cupcakes from the Sweet Lady Jane bakery on Melrose Avenue.

Let's hope gay partners in U.S. states like Utah, Oklahoma, Virginia, Texas, Michigan and the rest will soon enjoy the same marriage rights and be able to celebrate with cakes of their own in the future...

Eye-catching lifestyle billboards around L.A. in March 2014...

The weather may have turned in recent days here in L.A., but that hasn't stopped me capturing some of the cool lifestyle billboards lining the city skyline in March, everything from fitness, drinks, technology, car, travel and more billboards besides.

Health and fitness billboards
Giant Asics LA Marathon 2014 billboard
First up is this giant-sized billboard for this year's L.A. Marathon, which may have taken place at the beginning of the month, but this super-sized retro Asics creative featuring a L.A. Marathon legacy runner from the 80's pretty much stayed around the rest of the month to inspire others to get running and maybe enter a marathon of their own.

Be sure to check out how I did in the L.A. Marathon 2014, which was the hottest race day in over a decade.
Equinox Made me do it run naked billboard
Meanwhile the upscale gym Equinox was promoting some running of a whole other kind, in the nude. Apparently when you get in shape, you just become a bit of an exhibitionist and like to run naked at night.
Caboose Love your butt speedo billboard
And speaking of cheeky ads, this 'love your butt' health billboard featuring a rather pert man's bottom in a speedo was encouraging people to proactively look after their behind, whether you call it your booty, caboose, butt or bum.

Technology and telecommunications billboards
Giant GoPro skiing billboard
Following on from surfers and snowboarders, GoPro's latest giant ad is this action-packed skiing creative for the extreme sports video camera brand. If you like this impactful visual, be sure to check out the other super-sized GoPro billboards that have graced this wall in the heart of Hollywood.
Verizon More places More likes billboard
On elf the things that I'll never quite get used to living in America is the use of comparative advertising between brands, where the blatantly diss the competition, which isn't so prevalent in the U.K. Telecommunications companies and the tech firms that make the phones seem to do this a lot, but at least these two ads for Verizon and AT&T are not so cutthroat.
AT&T Most reliable network billboard
Verizon's Californian cruising-themed billboard claims to have the best network in SoCal, with a  youthful social media vibe to the creative, whilst AT&T claims to be America's most reliable 4G LTE network. Who to believe?

Car billboards
All-new Audi A3 Coming April 2014 billboard
In the world of outdoor car advertising, Audi has been teasing its new Audi A3 this month with this stylish creative highlighting the sleek design details of the car.
I love LA All-electric Fiat 500e billboard
Whilst the compact Fiat 500e has been trying to promote the love for its all-electric car, with this clever spin on the 'I love L.A.' slogan, with the iconic heart being replaced by a plug socket.

Drinks billboards
Absolut Elyx Vodka billboard
Meanwhile those vodka brands don't rest on their laurels and always seem to be dreaming up new flavour concoctions or ways to present their liquor, like Absolut's new luxury handcrafted Elyx vodka.
Smirnoff Wild Honey Vodka billboard
Whilst Smirnoff keeps the delicious tastes coming with variants like Wild Honey and Cinna-Sugar Twist, which sound perfect if you have a sweet tooth.
Smirnoff Cinna Sugar Twist Vodka billboard
These two Smirnoff cocktail ad creatives were spied on the side of the W Hotel in Hollywood.
Ketel One Vodka Legacy passed father son billboard
Ketel One has a different approach to marketing its vodka, emphasising the unique heritage and craftsmanship of its offering.
Juice Cream Party billboard
And in the non-alcoholic arena, this Juice brand is being more than slightly suggestive with its billboard for its Cream Party coconut water drink. they've obviously taken that old adage, sex sells, to heart (or mouth in this case).

Beauty billboards
European Wax Center Great movies Great brows billboard
In the world of beauty, European Wax Center's billboard in the heart of Hollywood is obviously trying to establish a dubious connection with the movies with its latest ad, although the use of hot young models always help grab attention.

And if you like this ad creative, be sure to check out this giant cheeky bikini billboard for European Wax Center along L.A.'s Sunset Strip last year.

Travel and tourism billboards
Celebrity Cruises Alaska billboard
Celebrity Cruises also increased their advertising presence in Hollywood this month with these creatives featuring stunning visuals for the travel company's luxury destinations in Alaska and Europe.
Celebrity Cruises Europe billboard
And next up, this giant ad could easily fall under the music genre, but as it's advertising the Light nightclub venue in Las Vegas where Swedish DJ Alesso is performing, it can sit comfortably in travel and tourism billboards too.
Giant Alesso Light nightclub Las Vegas billboard
And speaking of tourism and things to do, there's a new power couple in L.A. hoping to attract your attention.
Newest power couple LA Zoo lions billboard
Forget all the Hollywood starlets and Z-List celebrities, these lions at the Los Angeles Zoo are probably far more interesting than the vast majority of these so called stars.

Media billboards
The Kims They're on the same page Mail online billboard
And finally speaking of power couples, who'd have thought reality spotlight hog Kim Kardashian and North Korea's Kim Jong-un would ever share the same headline. This is a fun billboard for the U.K. website brand, even though the Daily Mail newspaper constantly fans the flames of intolerance, hatred, ignorance and bigotry on a daily basis.

As you can see there's been a smattering of eclectic lifestyle billboards around L.A. this month.

Be sure to also check out March's stylish fashion billboards and stay tuned for the best TV and film ad creatives gracing the skies of the City of Angels in the days to come...
