Exciting new season TV billboards in the skies of L.A. in August 2015...

If you thought the L.A. skyline was jam-packed with all those 2015 Emmy nomination billboards this month, that was only half of the story, as the streets and skies were also filled with new series and returning TV show ad creatives all vying for prospective viewers attention.

TV billboards
Fear the Walking Dead series premiere billboard
This season AMC's ratings winner The Walking Dead got a companion spin-off series called Fear The Walking Dead, set in L.A. and taking place at the start of the zombie epidemic when 'Rick Grimes' was in his coma. The premiere set cable viewing records with over 10 million viewers and the slow burn story is off to a chilling start, and this was the perfect L.A. themed billboard to kick things off.
Supergirl series premiere billboard
Audiences are still lapping up superhero movies and TV shows, so this Fall CBS is getting in on the action with Superman's cousin, Supergirl, with Glee's Melissa Benoist as the titular heroine. I really love this refreshing Supergirl ad campaign flying high in the skies of L.A. this month.
The Flash season 2 teaser billboard
Speaking of comic book heroes and The Flash is speeding back this October with this teaser billboard heralding his electric sophomore season (complete with modified emblem).

Scream Queens series premiere billboard
If MTV's remake of Scream didn't satisfy your teenage horror cravings, then this Fall get ready for Scream Queens, the brainchild of Ryan Murphy who brought you Glee and American Horror Story.

The new Fox show stars Emma Roberts, Keke Palmer, Lea Michele, Nick Jonas, Ariana Grande and Jamie Lee Curtis to name but a few, so be sure to also check out all these other Scream Queens billboards that have filled L.A.'s skies in recent months.
Quantico series premiere billboard
Over on ABC, Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra stars in the sexy FBI conspiracy thriller, Quantico, let's call it 'lipstick terrorism'.
Limitless series premiere billboard
And CBS is adapting the 2011 movie Limitless which starred Bradley Cooper, about intelligence enhancing drugs, and he'll also have a recurring role in in the new series sequel.
The Grinder series premiere billboard
Rob Lowe is back on the small screen in The Grinder, playing an actor who once starred as a lawyer on a hit TV show and now returns to his small hometown thinking he can take over his family's law firm, which is not great for his real lawyer brother played by The Wonder Years Fred Savage.
Blood & Oil series teaser billboard
These teaser billboards for ABC's Blood & Oil were in the skies this month, for a soapy drama which seems like it'll be a mix of Dallas, Dynasty and Revenge this Fall.
Documentary Now series premiere billboard
SNL veterans Fred Armisen and Bill Hader took to the skies in various disguises this month for the new IFC series parodying famous documentaries.
Documentary Now series premiere billboard
Documentary Now! spoofs everything from mother-daughter recluses, to 70s rock bands and Mexican drug cartels.

Meanwhile Oscar Isaac was getting super-sized for a political mini-series based in the past in Show me a Hero, a story inspired by real-life events in the late 80s and early 90s which focused on the desegregation of public housing in Yonkers, New York.

Survivor's Remorse season 2 billboard
Whilst pro-basketball comedy Survivor's Remorse was back for a second season on Starz with this ballsy ad creative.

Hot Wives of Las Vegas series premiere billboard
Meanwhile The Hotwives were back on Hulu, but this time moving to Las Vegas instead of Orlando. Florida, to parody the wealth of Real Housewives reality TV shows.

Kevin from work series premiere billboard
Whilst ABC Family's Kevin from Work was paying homage to John Cusack and his boombox in 80s romantic comedy Say Anything..., here Noah Reid had to make do with a shredder for the office comedy about awkward love at work.
Difficult People series premiere billboard
Difficult People was another quirky comedy offering from Hulu this month and this 'selfie' ad creative at a funeral sums up everything you need to know about the characters in this show.

Plus The Meltdown with Jonah and Kumail was back for a sophomore season of live stand-up comedy, doing it all not for the fame, but the billboard (a sentiment I can get behind).
Drunk History season 3 Uncle Sam billboard
Drunk History was back for an inebriated third season and helping them out this time was a merry Uncle Sam.

If you like this eye-catching patriotic parody, be sure to check out the other clever Drunk History billboards featuring U.S. President's Richard Nixon and George Washington.

Bringing comedy, song, dance, celebrities, games and more besides to Tuesday nights this Fall is Neil Patrick Harris in the new variety show, Best Time Ever - let's wait and see if the show lives up to the title's promise.

Good things come to those who watch Dr Phil billboard
Whereas daytime talk show host and therapist Dr. Phil is back for a staggering fourteenth season of discussing people's intimate problems on TV.
Giant Tig Notaro Boyish Girl Interrupted billboard
And finally I'll leave you with this cool giant-sized billboard for Tig Notaro's HBO comedy special, Boyish Girl Interrupted. After seeing everything she went through in her Netflix documentary Tig, I'm fascinated by the cancer-surviving comedian.

As you can see it's been a crowded sky this August, with many new billboards appearing almost daily.

Be sure to check out my Daily Billboard blog for all the new TV show arrivals and come back next month for another snapshot of out-of-home advertising around the streets of L.A.

Summer drinks and lifestyle billboards filling L.A.'s skies in August 2015...

With the weather hotter than Hell in L.A. at the moment, the job of billboards selling refreshing beverages is made that much easier, but that's not to say these drinks billboards are not eye-catching in their own right. Here's a selection of the attention-grabbing drinks and other lifestyle ad creatives that caught my magpie eye all this month.

Drinks billboards
Palm trees cool breeze Rum Chata billboard
First up is this wonderfully retro billboard for Rum Chata, the cream liqueur drink. I've never tried it, but I love the feel of these stylized ad creatives, just as I loved Rum Chata's festive billboard from over the Holidays. I can certainly imagine sipping a cocktail poolside after seeing these fun-filled billboards.
Corona Extra not a season way of life billboard
Next up is Corona Extra keeping the spirit of Summer alive, whether you drink the beer from a bottle or their new can (with a lime wedge of course).

Be sure to also check out the other cool Corona billboards promoting their new can from earlier this year.
Wine is so cliché Stella Artois Beer giant billboard
Speaking of beer and Stella Artois continues to project a refined image for its brand, suggesting it's the perfect dinner beverage instead of wine.

Even Me Free HIV Test billboard
This 'Straight Outta Condoms' parody of the recent movie Straight Outta Compton is great way to catch passersby attention and raise awareness of condom usage.
Straight Outta Condoms billboard
Whilst all the hot weather may be causing everyone to get naked at the beach, around the pool or in bed this Summer, Californians have also been facing sever drought conditions after several years of low rain and snowfall.
Be water wise faucet billboard
These eye-catching California drought awareness billboards around the streets of L.A. obviously can help with water conservation, before people start getting fined for overuse, but recently when I was up high looking out over the houses of Beverly Hills all I saw were perfect, lush manicured lawns, so the message isn't really getting through to everyone yet.
Support full ban on Bobcat trapping billboard
Another local cause I was unaware of until I saw this billboard was bobcat trapping in the state, the campaigning looks like it worked as the California Fish and Game Commission voted to stop the practice this month (although not hunting).
John Wayne quitters Grit Values billboard
And I always like to see these Values billboards in the city skyline, they are never too preachy but have good advice and a philosophy we can all follow to make everyone's life around us better, like John Wayne says, when the going gets tough you shouldn't just quit.

If you like this, be sure to check out more examples of the Foundation for a better life ad campaign from recent years.

Technology and website billboards
DaVinci Resolve 12 software billboard
This Western-themed ad creative for Black Magic Design's DaVinci Resolve 12 editor software really stood out this month along the Sunset Strip and is very targeted to the Hollywood crowd where everyone always has a project on the go or works in the business.

Apple was back with another wave of Shot on iPhone 6 billboards featuring stunning user generated images, like this Greek Isle themed creative.

Natural History Museum Geek Out billboard
And I also spied this geeky fun billboard from the L.A. Natural History Museum's new ad campaign, trying to attract visitors over the Summer months.
Hollywood Wax Museum billboard
And speaking of drawing a crowd, the Hollywood Wax Museum has this razzle-dazzle billboard at Hollywood & Highland to attract visitors across the street, especially with Madame Tussauds waxworks just up the road to compete with.

Sports billboard

In the world of sport, L.A. Galaxy was once again in the city skyline promoting its local soccer team.
