Awards season film costumes and props on display around L.A...

Today this year's Oscar nominations were announced and I'm glad to say I've been fortunate to see costumes from Carol, The Danish Girl, Cinderella and The Revenant in person these past twelve months (although sadly none for Mad Max: Fury Road). Here's a selection of Oscar-nominated costumes, plus more movie exhibits from around L.A. in the past month or so.

Alejandro González Iñárritu's Frontier revenge drama The Revenant won three Golden Globes, one for Best Director, one for Best Actor (for Leonardo DiCaprio) and for Best Motion Picture - Drama. It now leads the Academy Award nominations with twelve nominations.

Here's two costumes from The Revenant designed by Jacqueline West, were worn by Tom Hardy and Leonardo DiCaprio, which were photographed on display at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema at the beginning of January 2016.

Meanwhile, even though I saw some Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie costumes at Disney's D23 Expo in August 2015, it was still cool to see these Stormtrooper costumes on display at ArcLight Hollywood in December when the new installment in the sci-fi franchise was released.

In the New Year after the rush had died down at the box office, I also ventured along to Hollywood's El Capitan Theatre to see more original costumes, models and props, including these 'Rey' and 'Finn' outfits, plus the adorable animatronic droid, 'BB-8'.

They also had more First Order Stormtrooper costumes, plus models of the Millennium Falcon, Rey's Speeder and new Han Solo and General Leia Organa costumes on display which were supercool to see up close in person.

Another cool exhibit at ArcLight Hollywood in December was for the stop-motion animated feature film getting a lot of acclaim and now Oscar-nominated for Best Animated Feature, Anomalisa.

The display featured three screen-used sets and puppets from the movie by Charlie Kaufman and Duke Johnson, so if you're a fan of stop-motion animation be sure to check out this Anomalisa exhibit in more detail.

Quentin Tarantino's latest bloody Western extravaganza scored three Oscar nods today, including one for Jennifer Jason Leigh for Best Supporting Actress as the killer 'Daisy Domergue' (interestingly she also voices one of the leads in Anomalisa).

Opposite the entrance to Arclight Hollywood they had this fantastic selection of costumes from The Hateful Eight on display, which were frustratingly hard to photograph, but still cool to see in person at the beginning of 2016.

Fortunately they also had another smaller costume display featuring Courtney Huffman's designs, including Jennifer Jason Leigh's outfit, over at ArcLight Sherman Oaks cinema.

It'll be interesting to see who wins the Oscar this year as Sandy Powell is nominated for both Carol and Cinderella.

In the meantime, let's hope the costume and prop exhibits keep coming throughout 2016...
