Returning favourite TV show billboards in L.A.'s September 2016 skies...

The older a show gets on network TV the less support it seems to get in the form of outdoor advertising, whilst the same can not be said of cable channels and streaming services which treat every season as a chance to lure you back to your favourite shows, or entice new viewers to binge-watch and get up to speed up for the latest episodes. Here's a cool collection of eye-catching television billboards turning heads this Fall 2016 season.

TV billboards
Walking Dead season 7 giant billboard
First up is the devilishly handsome Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the evil 'Negan' for the seventh season of AMC's hit post-apocalyptic zombie drama, The Walking Dead. At the end of season six one of 'Rick Grimes' band of plucky survivors met a gruesome fate at the hands of Negan's barbed wire baseball bat, 'Lucille'.

It's been a hell of a wait to see who died at his hands, but from the looks of things, that's only the start of his reign of terror.
American Horror Story season 6 spider eyes billboard
Meanwhile FX's horror anthology series, American Horror Story, teased us for months with the theme of the latest sixth season and had the best marketing campaign with a variety of all these creepy AHS: 6? billboards.
American Horror Story Roanoke billboard
Finally when the show debuted we learned that the lost colony of Roanoke would play a huge part in the scaring audiences this season.
Ash vs Evil Dead season 2 billboard
Speaking of blood and gore, and Starz Ash vs. Evil Dead returned to the skies for a second season of battling the undead this Fall.
Supergirl season 2 billboard
Melissa Beonist's Supergirl also returned to fly another day for a sophomore season, but this time the DC Comics super-heroine was moving from CBS to The CW (and moving production from L.A. to Vancouver to save costs). This season two ad creative certainly evokes the Christopher Reeves era cinematic Superman, which I think was the whole point.
Transparent season 3 billboard
Transgender dramedy Transparent also returned for a third season this month, following more Emmy wins for its star and creator.

I still think the series features a bunch of self-centered, obnoxious characters (mainly 'Maura Pfefferman's' grownup children), but their struggles are so compelling I can't stop watching and the season finale was a real highlight thanks to Judith Light's outstanding performance.
Blindspot season 2 billboard
NBC's conspiracy thriller Blindspot returned for its sophomore season, but this billboard along the Sunset Strip was the only outdoor support I spied this month.
Narcos season 2 billboard
Plus Netflix's drug cartel drama about the hunt for Pablo Escobar was back for a second outing with these season two Narcos billboards.
Chicago Med season 2 billboard
Also returning to the city skyline was Chicago Med for the sophomore season of the hospital drama spin-off from Chicago Fire and P.D.
Superstore season 2 billboard
Plus the employees of the 'Cloud 9' Superstore were open for business for a second season (although they were also going on strike),
Project Runway season 15 billboard
One of my favourite shows, reality fashion design competition, Project Runway, was back for a fifteenth season with this crazy graffiti ad creative. There seem to be a nice selection of talented designers competing this season.
Ellen season 14 billboard
Funny lady Ellen DeGeneres was back for a fourteenth season of her daytime talk show with these fun emoji billboards in L.A.'s skies this month.
Documentary Now season 2 billboard
Plus Documentary Now! was back for a second installment of parodying famous documentaries, like this spoof of The War Room, about running a political campaign, which is very timely.
Weediquette Cops Smoke Weed billboard
Another marijuana-themed series returning and trying to turn heads this month was Viceland's Weediquette, a docu-series investigating the legalization of the drug, with this provocative 'Cops smoke weed' billboard.
South Park season 20 billboard
Animated comedy series South Park was celebrating its twentieth season with this trophy special extension billboard along the Sunset Strip.
Marcus Lemonis Profit season 4 billboard
Meanwhile self-made millionaire Marcus Lemonis was back for a fourth season of the reality show The Profit, using his business acumen to help struggling businesses across the country.
Mrs robots husband pop cultured E news billboard
And E! News, which has been going since September 1991, had this fun ad creative about popular TV show Mr. Robot to help grab attention fro the pop culture show.

These weren't the only TV shows competing for your eyeballs this month, so be sure to check out all the new Fall TV show billboards also filling the sprawling city skyline in September.

Come back next month for more snapshots of L.A.'s streets and skies, and visit my Daily Billboard Blog for all the very latest cool visuals trying to turn heads.

In the meantime, don't be a stranger...

September 2016's movie, music and gaming billboards around L.A...

After all the Summer blockbusters there's always a bit of a lull in the city skyline for film billboards, but that being said, here's a collection of movies trying to grab passerby attention this September 2016, plus a few music and games billboards also filling L.A.'s crowded skyline this past month.

Movie billboards
Wonder Woman movie teaser billboard
I don't do it every day like some people in the entertainment industry, but I always love driving past Warner Bros. Studios to get a glimpse of their upcoming movies, like the first solo outing for 'Wonder Woman' (a childhood favourite heroine of mine).

She was the most exciting thing in Batman v. Superman, so I'm looking forward to the film and am sure Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman movie costume will serve as inspiration for many this Halloween.
Harry Potter movies billboard
After reading the book for new Harry Potter and the The Cursed Child play recently, which I loved by the way, it encouraged us to rematch all the Harry Potter movies, so this billboard is very timely. They really were a great cinematic experience and certainly got better as the story progressed and the kids grew up.
Fantastic Beasts movie teaser billboard
That's why I'm so looking forward to the new Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them prequels starring Eddie Redmayne as 'Newt Scamander'. J.K. Rowling has really created a rich wizarding universe (as well as being a true LGBT ally on Twitter especially) and I can't wait to dive in to a new adventure on the big screen.
Magnificent Seven movie billboard
Meanwhile this month The Magnificent Seven movie remake was proving that there was still life in the Western genre, especially when you have stars like Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt headlining.
Deepwater Horizon movie billboard
This month was also offering up some movies based on real-life disasters, like the explosion on the Deepwater Horizon offshore drilling oil rig.
Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children movie billboard
Although if you were looking for were looking for something a little bit more fantastical, Tim Burton was delivering Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, with Eva Green as the titular magical headmistress.
Storks film billboard
Meanwhile the new computer-animated comedy Storks was also taking flight in the skies of L.A. this September.
Masterminds movie billboard
And speaking of comedies, Masterminds was delivering a new crime caper with a whole host of familiar names, like Zach Galifianakis, Owen Wilson and Kristen Wiig, this month.
Girl on the Train film billboard
One film I'm looking forward to is The Girl on the Train, with Emily Blunt. It looks like it could be the next Gone Girl, and as I haven't read the book and I love her as an actress this looks like a great night out.
Jack Reacher Never Go Back movie billboard
Tom Cruise may have been renegotiating his fee for the next Mission: Impossible this month, but that didn't stop the Hollywood star from appearing in the skies for another action franchise, the movie sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back.
The Accountant movie billboard
And even though Ben Affleck is busy as 'Batman' these days, that didn't stop him from starring as The Accountant, which sounds rather boring without a bit of action involved (hence the gun in the advertising no doubt). Although what's next, 'The CPA', 'The Debt Collector', 'The Therapist'?!?
Amanda Knox Netflix documentary billboard
Netflix really has become a destination for documentary films, and this Amanda Knox example is another fine example and maybe it'll help you decide if she did murder British student Meredith Kercher in Italy in 2007, or not.
Audrie Daisy Netflix documentary billboard
Meanwhile Audrie & Daisy is a documentary about two teenage girls who were raped at a party when they passed out drunk (which seems to be a growing problem, or maybe it's sadly always happened and these days it's acknowledged), the public shaming and online harassment from speaking out led to suicide and the death of one of the girls.
Extremis Netflix documentary short billboard
And finally in the world of film, this billboard is not for the 'Extremis' tech weapon from Iron Man 3, but for a new Netflix documentary short about end-of-life care.

Music billboards
Travis Scott Birds in the trap sing McKnight billboard
Meanwhile this fun billboard was snapped along the Sunset Strip for the second studio album by hip-hop artist Travis Scott this month.
Beatles 8 days a week Hulu documentary billboard
Plus The Beatles were making their legendary presence felt along the Sunset Strip for their new Hulu documentary by Ron Howard, Eight Days A Week: The Touring Years.
Spotify I need you to set me free Shawn Mendes billboard
And Spotify was back amongst the city skyline and promoting artists like Shawn Mendes to get you listening to the streaming service.

Gaming billboards
Giant Summoners War 2016 game billboard
Meanwhile in Koreatown this month Summoners War was making a big impression with all its fantastical characters for the online game.

As you can see it's not been as busy for movies and music this month, but we're sure that will change in coming weeks. Come back next month for another roundup and be sure to check out what movie and music billboards were hot in the skies this time last year.

Plus stay tuned for this year's returning TV show billboards filling L.A.'s sprawling skyline this September...

September 2016's drinks and lifestyle billboards gracing L.A.'s skyline...

The skies of L.A. have been overflowing with Fall TV billboards this month, but it appears to have been a fairly quiet time for drinks and other lifestyle outdoor ads. Here's a selection of the billboards that did catch my magpie eye this September though.

Drinks billboards
Skyy Vodka This is Me Better Together Transparent billboard
I like my vodka, so this new billboard for Skyy Vodka certainly stood out for me, especially as it highlights the spirit's association with Amazon's Transparent TV series.
Skyy Vodka Transparent float LA Pride Parade 2016
In fact the vodka brand even had a Transparent-themed float at this year's L.A. Pride Parade in June.

If you're a fan of the TV show, be sure to also check out these Transparent billboards for all three seasons.
Crown Royal Vanilla So good billboard
Canadian whisky Crown Royal was also back in the skies this month with this fun ice-cream theme for its new vanilla flavour variant, and with temperatures soaring here in L.A. at the moment this is cool visual in more ways than one.
Virginia Black please take me back Drake billboard
Meanwhile above the 1OAK nightclub along the Sunset Strip this month was this cryptic ad creative, which features rapper Drake's dad Dennis Graham and the words 'Virginia Black, Please take me back'.

For those not in the know, Virginia Black is the name of Drake's new venture into the world of whiskey (not that you could really tell from this billboard).
Estrella Jalisco beer billboard
Here's another of the billboards for Mexican beer Estrella Jalisco which seem to be all over L.A. at the moment with different ad creatives, be sure to check last month's drinks billboards for more examples.
Coors Light Winning pro football billboard
Plus over in Hollywood, Coors Light was showing off multiple ad creatives from its latest 'Whatever your mountain, climb on' ad campaign.
Coors Light script greenlit today billboard
Around the corner from these billboards the beer brand has also installed a large Coors Light neon sign high above Sunset & Vine.

Theme park billboards
Last chance Tower of Terror Disney billboard
At this time of year as we get nearer to Halloween the skies start to fill with all different kinds of theme park billboards trying to entice visors to enjoy the festivities, like these Disneyland ads.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney's California Adventure park will close in the New Year to be revamped as a new Guardians of the Galaxy ride, so there's never been a better time to get your screams in before it closes forever.
Disneyland Halloween Time Ursula billboard
Be sure to also check out all these other Disneyland Halloween Time billboards from previous years, featuring all your favourite Disney villains.

Cars and motoring billboards
Honda Ridgeline truck billboards
In the world of motors, Honda was showing off its new Ridgeline truck over at Hollywood's Sunset & Vine with multiple billboards.
Honda Ridgeline Truck tough billboard
I still think car advertisers should try harder and be more inventive when it comes to their outdoor ad campaigns.

Gambling billboards
Lottery Scratchers Multiply your luck billboard
These colourful Lottery Scratchers XXXX billboards stood out this month, but more because of the fact they look more like some adult-themed sex or condom ad, rather than a chance to get lucky another way.

Technology billboards
Shot on iPhone Nicholas M billboard
In advance of its new iPhone 7 launch Apple had another round of its user-generated Shot on iPhone billboards filling the city skyline.
Apple iPhone 7 billboard
In the middle of the month these sleek, black billboards for their new smartphone took their place.
Snapchat logo billboard Sep 16
Plus Snapchat was also back in the city skyline this September, raising its profile for the company's rebranding to Snap Inc. no doubt.

Cause-related billboards
AMC Theatres China's red puppet billboard
Being an election year America seems to be even more full of conspiracy theories, so I wasn't surprised to see this billboard calling AMC Theaters 'China's Red Puppet' along the Sunset Strip.

The world seems to be getting crazier and crazier, especially after last night's first Presidential debate, where Donald Trump proved what a lunatic he is and how unprepared he is to be America's Commander-In-Chief.

Stay tuned in the coming days for more Out-Of-Home roundups of this month's returning TV shows, movie, music and gaming billboards.
