May 2017's movie, music and gaming billboards turning heads in the skies of L.A...

This month the skies of L.A. have been filled to overflowing with blockbuster summer movie billboards and more music outdoor ads than usual. Here's a collection of the cool film, music and gaming vision in vinyl turning heads this May 2017 in the City of Angels.

Movie billboards
Baywatch movie billboard
First up is this eye-catching special extension billboard for the Baywatch movie with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Zac Efron. Those cut-out letters lining the top of the billboard really make this ad creative stand out along the Sunset Strip.
Alien Covenant movie billboard
Another special extension billboard that utterly captured the essence of the sci-fi horror film franchise was this spectacular Alien: Covenant billboard stalking L.A.'s skyline. It's a shame the movie itself couldn't live up to the menace of this billboard.
Wonder Woman movie billboard
Wonder Woman finally gets her own solo movie this summer and I for one can't wait. Gal Gadot was the best thing about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, so let's hope this really is the best DC Comics Universe movie to date (although the bar is set pretty low).
Wonder Woman film billboard
If you're a fan of the lasso-wielding Amazonian warrior, make sure you check out all these other Wonder Woman movie billboards in the outdoor ad campaign.
King Arthur Legend of the Sword movie billboard
One thing's for sure, Wonder Woman can't do worse than Warner Bros. Studio's box office bomb King Arthur: Legend of the Sword.
King Arthur movie billboard
It's a shame as the out-of-home ad campaign for the Medieval fantasy movie was cool, but I've never been a fan of Guy Ritchie and his faux 'Cockney Geezer' style so it was never on my must-see list.
Pirates Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales billboard
From knights to pirates and Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean returns for a fifth installment on the big screen this May (although was anyone really demanding another film?).
Pirates Caribbean Dead Men Tell No Tales billboard
Fans of Johnny Deep's 'Captain Jack Sparrow' can also enjoy these other Dead Men Tell No Tales movie billboards filling L.A.'s streets and skies this month.
Mummy movie reboot billboard
Another film franchise being resurrected on the big screen this summer is The Mummy, with Tom Cruise helping to reboot Universal's monster movie with a female Mummy played by Sofia Boutella.
Valerian movie billboard
Luc Besson returns to outer space this summer adapting the French sci-fi comic book with the movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. This 'V' special extension cut-out is simple but really stands out.
Giant Emoji Movie billboard Sunset Strip
Meanwhile, just when you thought Hollywood had run out of ideas along comes The Emoji Movie (seriously?!?).
Emoji Movie Poop happens billboard
Fortunately the new animated movie has an awesome outdoor ad campaign, so if you like these fun ad creatives, be sure to check out the other hilarious billboards for The Emoji Movie.
Captain Underpants movie billboard
Plus more animated hijinks arrive this summer in the form of the Captain Underpants movie.
Cars 3 movie billboard
And speaking of animation, Disney/Pixar bring the next sequel in the highly profitable Cars film franchise with a third installment revving into cinemas this summer.
Giant Despicable Me 3 movie billboard
And if you've missed those dastardly Minions don't despair, Despicable Me 3 is back in a big way this summer too.
Wizard of Lies movie billboard
Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer were also getting super-sized this month for HBO's new telefilm The Wizard of Lies, about Ponzi scheme scam artist Bernie Madoff.
War Machine movie billboard
Whilst on Netflix, Brad Pitt was starring as a general fighting the war in Afghanistan in the satirical film War Machine.
Sand Castle movie billboard
Plus Nicholas Hoult was also experiencing the war in the Middle East in Netflix's original film Sand Castle.
Casting JonBenet Netflix documentary billboard
In the world of documentaries, Netflix was exploring the infamous death of the American child beauty pageant queen in Casting JonBenét.

Plus mysteries abounded in comedian Jeff Garlin's L.A. detective comedy film, Handsome, on the subscription streaming service.

Meanwhile online YouTube Red was offering an original movie from violin and performance artist Lindsey Stirling with Brave Enough.
Lindsey Sterling Brave Enough billboard
Plus things were looking decidedly feline in the skies of L.A. with these billboards for YouTube Red's documentary film, Kedi.
Kedi YouTube Red cat documentary billboard
YouTube may be famous for viral funny cat videos, but this documentary is about stray and domesticated cats living in Istanbul.
Kedi YouTube Red cat billboard
Just like with the TV industry, you can see that streaming and online services are really shaking up the entertainment industry.

Music billboards
Damn kendrick Lamar billboard
In the world of independent record labels, Top Dawg Entertainment was thanking its fans along the Sunset Strip with this simple, but eye-catching billboard for Kendrick Lamar's fourth studio album, DAMN.
Apple Music Up Next 6lack billboard
And maybe worried about Spotify's outdoor advertising presence in recent months Apple Music is back in the skies with this ad for recording artist 6lack.
Big Sean Pandora Premium wall mural ad
Yes, things are looking pretty competitive with it comes to downloading and streaming music, with Pandora also back on the streets of L.A. with ads featuring Big Sean.
Logic Everybody album Spotify billboard
Rapper Logic was dropping his third studio album everybody with the help of Spotify this month.
Linkin Park spotify billboard
Plus the music streaming service was also offering rock band Linkin Park's new album, One More Light, to listen to.
Father John Misty spotify billboard
And shining a spotlight on Father John Misty and his new album, Pure Comedy, along the Sunset Strip, there've never been so many music billboards flying around in recent years.
Diana Krall Turn Up Quiet billboard
Jazz pianist and singer Diana Krall was also dropping her new record (her thirteenth studio album), Turn Up The Quiet, this month.
U2 Joshua Tree Tour 2017 billboard
Plus Irish rockers U2 were bringing their Joshua Tree tour to L.A. with sold out performances at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
Calvin Harris Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1 billboard
And Scottish DJ Calvin Harris was back along the Sunset Strip with this ocean view billboard for fifth album Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1.
EDC Vegas All welcome here billboard
If you're looking for a good time this summer it looks like Las Vegas has the dance festival you're looking for with the Electric Daisy Carnival, where all are welcome apparently.
Life is Beautiful Vegas 2017 billboard
Plus the Life is Beautiful concert festival is back in Vegas this summer with headliners like Gorillaz, Chance the Rapper, Lorde and more.
DJ David Guetta Wynn nightlife billboard
Next up I don't usually share Las Vegas nightclub ad creatives as they tend to be a bit bland, but I've never seen superstar DJ David Guetta looking so dapper as he does in this billboard for Wynn nightlife.

In memoriam billboards
RIP Mario Maglieri King Sunset Strip billboard
This month one of the Sunset Strip's icons died, Mario Maglieri partied with rockers at his Whisky A Go-Go club and Rainbow Room bar, and had this RIP billboard to mark his passing.

Gaming billboards
Call of Duty WWII game teaser billboard
In the world of video games, Call of Duty was teasing its new WWII game in a big way along the Sunset Strip and it doesn't get released until November.
Best Fiends Boot Camp billboard
And finally mobile game Best Fiends was back in the skies this May, but this time with a new animated short, can it be long before a feature length film is on the way I wonder?

As you can see it's been a busy time in the skies of L.A. this month, and that's not even counting all the Emmy consideration, summer TV show, fashion and lifestyle billboards trying to grab your attention at the same time.

Watch this space for more snapshots of L.A.'s sprawling skyline this May in the days to come, you won't be disappointed...
