When is a cactus not a cactus, when it's art in West Hollywood...

One of the many things I like about living in West Hollywood are the landscaped medians and parks, and the outdoor art that dot the vibrant city. The newest addition to the neighborhood seems to be a veritable garden of colourful cacti created by artist James Petersen this year.

This collection of modern sculptures based on various cactus plants can be found at the border of Beverly Hill and West Hollywood located in the median that runs along Santa Monica Boulevard and meets Doheny Drive.

These pieces are made from corten and dicorten materials and LED lights, they catch the sunlight and glisten by day and become glowing sculptures at night.

These cacti feel right at home amongst the palm trees of real Southern California and certainly brighten up the commute for car drivers sitting in traffic.

Be sure to check out some of the other art that has graced this outdoor space in the past, like these geometric sculptures by Peter Shire from 2009, these bold bronze sculptures from 2011, these sculptures from the Frosting Collection in 2012 and Hacer's The Chase sculptures from 2016, to name a few.

As these beauties take on a difference appearance at night I guess I'll also have to check them out when the sun goes down...
