2019 in review - is it over yet?!?...

For the third year I find myself bemoaning what a terrible year it's been, mainly due to the political situations in the U.S. and the U.K. and the fact that both countries are now run by narcissistic buffoons totally out of touch with ordinary people and democracy seemingly slipping further and further away, day by day.

That said, 2019 has had some positive highlights, so here's a visual storyboard of the past twelve months as we count down to a New Year.

I started January with a musical movie sequel thanks to a date night visit to the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood to see Mary Poppins Returns.

A snuffly visit to Hendry's Dog Beach in Santa Barbara
Labrador Hendrys Beach Santa Barbara
Full of a cold I thought I'd blow away the cobwebs with my best pal, who's showing signs of his age these days, and visit his favourite dog beach in Santa Barbara. We still try and take the time whenever we can for Cooper to splash along the shoreline.

Surviving leaky ceilings and the February rain
Labrador rain
February brought days of heavy rainfall and leaks throughout our condo, which I thought we'd fixed with costly window repairs a few years back.

The heavy rain and a leaky condo made for a grim start to the year
Leaky ceiling damage
The rains continued and so did our leaks. Once again we spent weeks being frustrated with our HOA Management Company who proved as useless as ever, until we took control ourselves.

In mid-February we escaped to Palm Springs for a long weekend with some friends and to do some house-hunting.

We were back a week later for the inspection of the house we put an offer on

To our surprise we found a place that we loved and by the next weekend we were traveling back down for an inspection.

In May we jetted off to Britain for our annual trip to see friends and family in a cross-country odyssey, although as we sold our Chiswick flat last year it was hotels and spare rooms for us this year.

Started a monthslong window replacement project to stop the leaks in June
New window installation
In June, after many delays and much stress, we started our windows replacement project to help stop the leaks damaging our West Hollywood condo. With fifteen windows, including a bespoke commercial-grade window, the best laid plans couldn't prevent the renovations stretching through to September.

After several car accidents in 2018, I'd hoped that history would not repeat itself, but unfortunately after buying a brand new car in April, not even six months later a little old lady had crashed into the side of it.

We skipped Halloween in West Hollywood
for a quieter time in Palm Springs

Following the stress of house repairs which lasted months and displaced Cooper for longer than we'd liked, we decided to escape the party craziness of West Hollywood for Halloween and enjoy a more peaceful experience in our new desert sanctuary.

25 movies seen on the big screen

This year even though windows, car repairs and a new home took up much of my time, I still managed to make it to the cinema to see as many movies on the big screen as I could, like Parasite, Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Joker, Rocketman, Aladdin, Judy, Bombshell, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Last Christmas, Frozen II, Knives Out, The Farewell, Brittany Runs a Marathon, Downton Abbey, Blinded by the Light, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Us, The Wife, If Beale Street Could Talk and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

A wonderful Christmas in Palm Springs

And you guessed it, we escaped to Palm Springs with Cooper and friends for a peaceful Christmas and New Year's Eve.

We were even treated to our very own White Christmas

As the sun almost goes down on 2019, I'm thankful for my long-suffering husband, my lovable Labrador Cooper, and my friends and family that help get me through the dark times.

The sun goes down on another year...

There's lots to look forward to in 2020 with visits from friends and parents from the U.K., more magical time to be spent in Palm Springs, a potential house move in L.A., and hopefully new leadership to set things right again before it's all too late.

Goodbye 2019 and hello to a bright new 2020...
