A mix of new season and returning favourite TV billboards fill L.A.'s August 2019 skies...

I had a friend in town visiting this week and she remarked that there really were a lot of entertainment billboards filling the city skyline, from movies to music artists and TV shows. I explained that not only were we in the midst of Emmy nominee voting, but that it was also the dawn the fall television season which flood the skies with new offerings and returning favourites. Be sure to check out all the Emmy nominee billboards spotted this year, and then enjoy this collection of summer and fall TV billboards trying to stand out in L.A.'s sprawling skyline.

First up is this message from on high for the fourth and final season of AMC's Preacher adaptation. The end is near, indeed.
Giant Chasing the Cure series premiere billboard
Meanwhile Chasing The Cure was getting some super-sized support along the Sunset Strip for the live show that puts together a panel of experts to help patients who are suffering from undiagnosed, misdiagnosed and uncured medical mysteries.
Flip It Like Disick series premiere billboard
From helping people to helping yourself and E! was bringing Scott Disick's new house flipping reality show to the skies of the Sunset Strip in a creative way.
GLOW season 3 billboard
The 80s Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling were also back this month for a third season and heading to Las Vegas with these cool special extension cut-out billboards.
Mindhunter season 2 billboard
And also on the streaming service, Mindhunter was back for a sophomore season of solving murders by getting inside the minds of serial killers.
Dark Crystal Age of Resistance Netflix billboard
I loved Jim Henson's 1982 puppy fantasy adventure film, The Dark Crystal, so I was overjoyed to see these billboards for the Age of Resistance prequel series start to grace the city skyline this August.

Plus Netflix was also drawing inspiration from the acclaimed New York Times Magazine column for its new medical docu-series, Diagnosis.

This month its stand-up offering found Tiffany Haddish presenting and abundance of female comics in They Ready.

Plus it was taking car racing competitions into Hyperdrive with its new elite obstacle course series.

Over on HBO, the premium cable channel was shining a light on true events in the Gaza conflict with the limited drama series, Our Boys.

Plus Dwayne Johnson was back for a fifth season of Ballers, finding the comedy-drama in mixing sports with making money from its stars.

And the media empire family drama Succession was back for a second season, with father and children still vying for control of the global company.

And speaking of families out to make money, The Righteous Gemstones were making their debut in a big way, using religion to serve the Lord and themselves.

Hoping to bring a new perspective on comedy to the small screen this month, HBO was introducing viewers to A Black Lady Sketch Show, featuring the comedic talents of Robin Thede, Ashley Nicole Black, Gabrielle Dennis and Quinta Brunson.

IFC was also trying to achieve 'peak blackness' this month with Sherman's Showcase, starring Bashir Salahuddin as the host of a fictional musical variety show.

Over on Starz, crime drama Power was back for a sixth and final season, although the season will be split in two parts.

Plus on FX, Sons of Anarchy biker gang drama spin-off, Mayans M.C., was riding back for a second season of drama on the California/Mexico border.

And hitman-for-hire Mr Inbetween was back for his sophomore season of juggling work with family and friends commitments.

This month Showtime's drama The Affair was coming to an end with its fifth and final season, but how will Maura Tierney and Dominic West's stories end?

Plus Kirsten Dunst was starring in the dark comedy series about a minimum wage water park employee who schemes her way up the ranks of a multi-billion dollar pyramid scheme in On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

Meanwhile subscription streaming service, CBS All Access, was trying to tempt new viewers with its new series, Why Women Kill, from the creator of Desperate Housewives.

And on regular broadcast CBS there was a whole host of new shows coming for fall, like courthouse drama, All Rise, starring Simone Missick aka 'Misty Knight' in Netflix's now defunct Marvel TV shows.

From legal drama to medical comedy and this season Patrica Heaton stars in Carol's Second Act, about a 50-year-old divorced mother and retired teacher who wants to retrain to become a doctor.
Bob Hearts Abishola series premiere billboard
Another sitcom making its debut this season is Bob Hearts Abishola, about a stressed Detroit factory owner who has a heart attack and wakes up in hospital and falls for his kind immigrant Nigerian nurse Abishola.
Unicorn series premiere billboard
Another CBS comedy series landing this fall is The Unicorn, starring Walton Goggins as a widower trying to raise his kids and move on after the recent loss of his wife with the help of his close friends and family.

Meanwhile in the new paranormal mystery series, a skeptical psychologist, a priest and a contractor combine tougher to explore the origins of evil, supernatural or science.

This season Fox is giving some super-sized support for its new crime drama, Prodigal Son, where The Walking Dead's Tom Payne plays a young profiler helping the NYPD, who just happens to be the son of an infamous serial killer, played by Michael Sheen.

Fox's breakout hit The Masked Singer was also back in the skies this month, with more celebrities wearing bonkers costumes to hide their identities for its second season.

Also in the world of reality talent competitions, America's Got Talent was wishing Howie Mandel a happy tenth anniversary on the NBC show.

And speaking of drama, This Is Us will be back for a fourth season of heartwarming and tearjerking episodes with the 'Pearson' family across their lifetimes.

It looks like NBC is all giving a big push when it comes to their comedy offering this fall season, as this quote from The Good Place implies.

Meanwhile A&E was reviving its Ghost Hunters series to deal with unexplained paranormal phenomena affecting everyday people.

Fans of horror and creepy monsters could also enjoy more frights courtesy of Crypt TV Studios.

Online murder-mystery series, Escape the Night, was back courtesy of YouTube Originals, for an All Star edition.
Squidbillies season 12 billboard
Adult Swim's animated series Squidbillies was back for a twelfth season this month and these cartoons are certainly not for kids.

Plus 'Hunk Brickbody', 'Grody Ogreman' and their girlfriends were back for more animated adventures in Too Beautiful For This Planet.

As you can see there's so much television to watch at the moment, however and wherever you watch it.

Emmy nominee billboards campaigning in L.A.'s August 2019 streets and skies...

This August it's been another busy month for Emmy campaigning in the skies of Tinseltown, this time for all the nominated shows, specials and telemovies. Here's a collection of Emmy nominee billboards from streaming services, cable channels and broadcast networks, all battling it out to be seen by TV Academy voters for the 71st Emmy Awards.

Laverne Cox Orange New Black season 6 Emmy nominee billboard
This year streaming giant Netflix received 117 Emmy nominations, including one for Laverne Cox for her guest actress role in the sixth season of Orange Is the New Black.
Special season 1 Emmy nominee billboard
Another LGBT actor nominated this season was Ryan O'Connell for the first season of his short form sitcom, Special, based own his own life as a disabled gay man.
Dead To Me 2019 Emmy nominee billboard
Christina Applegate earned a well-deserved nomination for her role as a grieving widow in the freshman season of dark comedy-drama, Dead to Me.
Black Mirror Bandersnatch Emmy nominee billboard
Plus Black Mirror's decide-your-own story and ending sci-fi telefilm, Bandersatch, was also recognised this awards season.

Meanwhile Ava DuVernay's mini-series about the Central Park Five, When They See Us, garnered a massive sixteen nominations, including an acting nod for the superb Jharrel Jerome.

This year premium cable network HBO stole back its Emmy nominations with a whopping 137 nods with the help of shows like Game of Thrones and its epic final season, which earned thirty-two nominations all by itself.

Their Sharp Objects limited series starring Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson also scored eight nominations this season.

The seventh and final season of Veep earned nine nominations, and it'll be interesting to see if the political comedy show and Julia Louis-Dreyfus win again this year after taking a break last year for her breast cancer treatment.

Another streaming platform enjoying great success this year was Amazon, scoring nominations for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and British imports A Very English Scandal and the second season of Fleabag, which landed eleven nominations by itself.

With The Handmaid's Tale missing this year's Emmy qualifying period for its third season, Hulu's nominations came from The Act true crime drama.
