A cornucopia of TV billboards gracing L.A.'s April 2020 skies...

One thing's for sure this month, whether you stream content, watch online, or via cable, satellite or broadcast networks, television has been keeping us all entertained whilst we stay safe in our homes. Here's a smorgasbord of TV show billboards, old favourites and fresh entries, filling the streets and skies of Los Angeles this April 2020.

First up it was time to bid a found farewell to the mockumentary sitcom, Modern Family, this month after eleven seasons of laughs.
Baker and the Beauty series premiere billboard
This April ABC was also offering up some romantic drama with the U.S. remake of The Baker and the Beauty.
Bachelor Listen to Your Heart billboard
Plus it was trying to expand The Bachelor dating show franchise with Listen to Your Heart, where couples go on dates inspired by music.
One Day at a Time season 4 billboard
PopTV was rescuing rebooted family sitcom One Day At A Time for its fourth season, after Netflix cancelled the comedy.
Vida final season 3 billboard
Starz Latinx drama Vida was also back for a third and final season this month, channeling Mexican artist Frida Kahlo in its key art.
Good Fight season 4 billboard
On CBS All Access, Christine Baranski's lawyer 'Diane Lockhart' was back to wage The Good Fight for a fourth compelling season (it's so good).
Laura Linney Ozark season 3 billboard
Netflix was all in for the third season of its money laundering drama Ozark, starring Laura Linney and Jason Bateman.

For more teen romance and treasure-hunting mystery drama, Netflix was also streaming the new series, Outer Banks.

And Ryan Murphy was delivering his second Netflix show, Hollywood, a mini-series with a more diverse look at Tinseltown's Golden Era.

This month Cate Blanchett was looking iconic in this key art for the 1970s feminist period drama, Mrs. America, for FX on Hulu.
What We Do in the Shadows season 2 billboard
What We Do in the Shadows was also back for a second season of vampire comedy this April.

Hulu was also adapting Sally Rooney's 2018 romantic novel, Normal People, for the small screen.

Showtime's Penny Dreadful was getting a supernatural sequel this spring with City of Angels, set in pre-WWII L.A. with Natalie Dormer as a trouble-making, shape-changing demon.

Zombie drama The Walking Dead was set to get another spin-off this month, but then World Beyond was moved until later in the year due to the coronavirus.

And Killing Eve was back for more sexy female spy shenanigans with its third season and these captivating billboards.

Over on Amazon Prime Video, Tales from the Loop was being adapted from artist Simon Stålenhag's science fiction paintings. Make sure you check out the other otherworldly billboards for the new series.

Meanwhile futuristic comedy Upload was getting some super-sized support along the Sunset Strip this month, for the satire about a man able to choose his afterlife experience after his consciousness is uploaded after his death.

Also on the streaming platform, Titus Welliver was back as detective 'Harry Bosch' for a sixth season of murder and mystery in L.A.

Merritt Wever and Domhnall Gleeson were ready to Run and becoming giant-sized for their new HBO comedy thriller.

The premium cabler was also dipping its toe into reality TV with the new drag queen makeover show,  We're Here, featuring three RuPaul's Drag Race alums.

Whilst hit-making music reality competition Songland was back for a sophomore season on NBC.

And if you liked Downton Abbey, Belgravia is the new historical period drama based on Julian Fellowes 2016 novel of the same name.

Tyler Perry's The Oval soapy drama was getting its own spin-off series this month with this special extension cut-out billboard for Ruthless, a drama about a religious sex cult.
Showtime's docu-series Outcry was another show that fell foul of the virus, as the five-part sports documentary about high school football star Greg Kelley has been pushed back until later this year.

The network was also reviving documentary series Vice for a seventh season, with the first six seasons having aired on HBO.

National Geographic's documentary series Cosmos was getting some giant-sized support this month as it explores Possible Worlds.

And if there wasn't enough normal television to watch, Quibi was a new short-form mobile platform launching this month with bite-size shows like Chrissy's Court starring Chrissy Teigen.

Makeup mogul and trans activist Nikita Dragun was getting her own Snapchat reality series with Nikita Unfiltered. Make sure you take a look at this neon billboard at night along the Sunset Strip.

Early in the month Jada Pinkett-Smith and her mother and daughter were getting super-sized for the third season of their Red Table Talk chat show on Facebook Watch.

Meanwhile Ion Television was offering up crime procedural shows like Blue Bloods for the masses.

And PlutoTV was having fun with its advertising, calling out all those people who share streaming service accounts with their friends and family.

Marvelous Mrs Maisel season 3 FYC marquee billboard
Aside from shutting down the production of new shows, the coronavirus is sure to impact the entertainment industry's annual awards shows, like the Emmys.

Undeterred, Amazon Prime Video continues to champion the third season of its hit period comedy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, with this special FYC marquee billboard installation in Hollywood.

The streaming platform was also supporting its rookie Nazi-hunting drama, Hunters, in the city skyline this April.

Phew, as you can see there's more than enough TV to watch as you hunker down and wait for a scientific cure and informed, strategic response to this virus.

April 2020's movie and music billboards entertain L.A.'s sprawling skyline...

The coronavirus pandemic has certainly changed the world we're living in on a daily basis, forcing cinemas to close temporarily and live concerts and festivals to be cancelled and postponed due to health and safety concerns. Hollywood studios and events companies are adjusting to the new normal, but that doesn't mean the city skyline has been any less filled with billboards for new movies and recording artists.

Trolls World Tour 3D movie billboard
Universal Pictures reaction to theatre closures was to release its animated Trolls: World Tour on-demand the same day as it was to have opened on the big screen, much to the anger of cinema chains across the country.

Apparently the digital streaming has been a big success, no doubts with parents hoping to appease their homebound kids with new content to distract them for an hour or two.

Regardless of the politics of the escalating situation there's no doubt that the outdoor advertising campaign was also a big success with all the colourful character billboards rocking out all over L.A.

And speaking of changing plans, the new Scooby-Doo animated movie from Warner Bros. Studios was headed to cinemas this May, but now Scoob! will make its debut on-demand too.

When the scale of the pandemic came into focus, some studios decided to push their planned theatrical movie releases to later in the year like with the Peter Rabbit sequel.

And the Wonder Woman sequel set in the 1980s, WW84, has moved from June to August, or at least that's the plan for the blockbuster superheroine.

Obviously streaming services have seen a big boost to their platforms from this virus, and this April Netflix was offering up the comedy buddy movie Coffee & Kareem.

With the docu-series Tiger King being a big hit for the streaming giant, no doubt the original indie flick Tigertail by Alan Yang (named for the Taiwanese village his father left behind) may also turn a few heads this month.

Apple TV+ was also hoping to attract new subscribers this month with new films like The Banker starring Anthony Mackie and Samuel L. Jackson and based on a true story.

Premium cabler HBO was delivering the star power this month with Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney in the biographical crime-comedy movie, Bad Education.

And the teasing a new Natalie Wood documentary, What Remains Behind, about the life and death of the actress married to Robert Wagner.

As I mentioned earlier, streaming services are trying to make the most fo this situation we find ourselves in, and with their theme parks closed and new theatrical releases on hold, Disney+ was giving its streaming service some super-sized ad support along the Sunset Strip this April.

They and all the other streaming platforms will soon face some competition from the new HBO Max, which with be the home of sitcoms like Friends, The Big Bang Theory and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, cartoons for kids and grown-ups alike, DC superhero movies and television shows, blockbuster movies and beloved cinematic classics.

In the world of music, you may not have been able to attend the Coachella Music and Arts Festival this April, but at least you could watch the 20 Years in the Desert YouTube documentary.

There may be a few blank billboard sites beginning to appear around the City of Angels, but as you can see there's still plenty of movie and music billboards still standing out.
